Examine the lives of the most prominent pre 20th century royals and while we are at it, dictators (since they are little else but self appointed royalty) and you will find a wide variety of instances of insanity or at least behavior bordering on such. This sort of thing is often blamed on inbreeding which can also in of it self cause issues but inbreeding among royalty is, believe it or not, only slightly more prevalent than inbreeding among non royals and is almost statistically insignificant for the most part.
