Also for those asking, “Why is this such a big deal?” Please understand that what we’ve been witnessing for the past few years is an erasure and an alteration of history. This matters because it plays a role in the dynamics of how present and future policy, legislation, and systematic implementation will be managed over time. History still affects us today and by erasing the atrocities that have taken place against marginalized groups of people, and in this instance, specifically Black Americans, it creates an environment where there’s no longer a need or a sense of urgency when it comes to ensuring that there is repair. And if anything, it allows for systems that have already been oppressive to continue to remaining in power.
History creates the question of “Why?” And if people understand the “why” they also understand how to remedy the flaws and offenses. But those who have benefitted financially and gained power through those offenses have no desire to remedy anything.
Repairing the long term damage and outcomes is an investment and a check that no one in power will ever want to write because the list of offenses and claims are too long.
This list would include slavery, sharecropping, Jim Crow, failed reconstruction, the Black codes, convict leasing, housing discrimination, red lining, blockbusting, racial contract sales in 20th century mortgages, being left out of the GI Bill for decades, being left out of the New Deal and the FHA program, medical warfare, biological warfare, a racist prison industrial complex and judicial system, discrimination in banking, the trillions in wealth accumulated through free Black labor, the assassination of Black leaders and the infiltration of Black movements aimed at advancing the collective experience of Black Americans, Cointel Pro, the lapses in funding with public education, The wealth gap, being left out of the USDA farming programs, the loss of 14,000,000 acres of land through predatory policy, loopholes, and questionable laws surrounding heirs land as well as a long list of other systemic offenses. We’d be here all day if I listed them all.
With that being said, by constantly chipping away at these conversations, attempting to rewrite history, attacking school curriculums, trying to regulate what is taught at the college level, banning initiatives and programs that aim to tell the real history of the United States makes it easier to quickly forget the atrocities that have taken place in the past, and how they still affect us today.
In addition, constantly watering down reality makes it so that the offenses of the past, present, and the offenses that will still affect us in the future don’t seem as bad.
And if the offenses don’t seem “that bad”, there’s no need to make an effort to stop those offenses from continuing. This practice has now lead to the “gaslighting while stripping away” era we’re currently living in. This is why we have governors banning AP courses in Black history, judges denying compensation to the victims of the Tulsa race massacre. This is why the Voting Rights Act is constantly on the chopping block in the Supreme Court. This is why we’ve just seen the gutting of affirmative action. This is why we continue to see the shooting of unarmed Black citizens at the hands of the police with no consequence on a macro scale.
So yes it is a problem when you have someone whose lineage to this country is not even 60 years old, but has the nerve to erase the experience and story of Black folks who have been here for hundreds of years dealing with nonsense all because she doesn’t want to offend the offending group.
If she’s moving like this while not even in power, what do you think she would do if she became President? What kind of people do you thinks she’d put on her team? What kind of judges would she appoint? And if she were successful politically, what precedent does that set for the next wave of politicians, lobbyists, and elected officials in the future?
We saw how quickly the narrative around Jan 6 changed. And we literally watched that on tv as it happened. It doesn’t take much to sway a collective and change the landscape politically.
    All of this matters. ✌🏾

Some one I knew posted on facebook that the civil war was about states rights. I googled the declaration of secession of
the confederate states, everyone of them had slavery as the main reason, This is from the Missouri declaration "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth.''

What's even funnier is she is asking what is the lesson learned and she fails to understand, like most people, how the systems that upheld slavery still exist in one form or another.

Excellent job Sir, first of all. I'm 65 years young and had this same conversation with my 11th grade history teacher back in 1975. He asked for 10 things that led to the Civil War. After every point that was listed, I raised my hand to point out that all 10 points were directly related to the enslavement of my people. He got very frustrated and sent me to the Principal's office. I was asked by the Dean of Boys (black), to try and be less disruptive and more respectful. My mother told me to never allow anyone to silence your intellect and desire for both knowledge and understanding. Keep up the great work Sir. Blessings.🙏🏽❤️

Look up lee atwater's southern strategy and forced busing language. Notice how the republicans never talk about the actual issue that was the crux of the problem. It's always a whitewash. It's the same with the flag or the states' rights bs or the confederate enemy statues or their "it's heritage" bs.
And let's be very frank.. the confederates told us. This isn't something that happened when the pyramids were being built. We had trains by that point. Choo choo...We had steam boats. Whee whee. (i'm imagining a teapot whistle.. just go with it.) The Wright brothers have the first flight a mere half century later. This is very close to modern history.
As for capitalism.. why is that a moral good? Transatlantic SLAVE TRADE. Slavery is absolutely okay in a capitalist system.
What this tells us is that conservatives are amoral for all their fancy talk about values.
*Why do I use the term conservative? It's because Lincoln wasn't part of a conservative Republican party. The Republican party was the progressive party back during the Civil War. He would be a Democrat if he were running for office now. There's a reason that republicans support the Confederacy and push that southern lie made up by southern whores of the confederacy. (yeah.. why should we treat organizations such as the "daughters of the confederacy" as anything more than a female dominated KKK? They just had better fashion sense.) The names may lie but the substance is how you can determine the nature of the thing. The confederates back then also wanted a Christian nation btw.

Slavery can never be repaired. But the following hundred plus years of discrimination and pure evil towards black people could be repaid.

Yes, it was about what people could and couldn't do. Some of us wanted to be set free, and the other of us (the government and people who wanted slavery) wanted to keep black people as slaves. That was government sanctioned mistreatment. It was still about slavery and keeping that 'peculiar institution'.

Hey Calvin, I would tell you to send this to Nimratta, but I doubt she'd listen (even if she HEARD it). Some people, like her, need this information to be injected into their brainstems, but even then, with the social structure they are wedded to, it might just cause an allergic reaction....
You could almost see the moment after she got the question from the audience, when Nimratta's brain DEFAULTED into her white supremacist talking points.
