Blaze cord. It really does fluff well. However I had no luck on my water tests. Perhaps I had too small of a strand. It was like 4 inches at most. However it does fluff so well I was able to spark about an 1/8 inch fluffed piece with a tiny ferro rod that is about 2 or 3 inches long.
I like using UST paratinder and Titan survival cord. I got a 100' hank of UST paratinder at Duluth Trading for $10.00! Have had it 2 years and still have about 50' left.
Have you seen the new Titan survival XLparacord? It now has kevlar core instead of the copper wire. It has a braided fishing line also instead of monofilament fishing line. It is also 1,000 lb tencel strength! Just came out and I just ordered some for $26.00 on sale for 100' hank.
dalew515 Very cool. Kevlar is more realistic I guess...... anything i could use kevlar with i could most things with bank line or the 550 inner strands
Dude, great video, except maybe you should label stuff so people know what you're talking about. Your best and favorate cheap cord is called? and where do I get it? Looked in your video and in your comments, all I could find was where the bag of this cord had a DB label on it. Great video but fail on the pointing people to this cord.
My favorite cordages are: Mil-Spec 550 paracord from the Paracord Store; Catahoula #36 Twisted Bankline; Catahoula #12 Braided Bankline; and 50 lb Mono-filament. Always have some of each, in various configurations, in each kit. I gave you a thumbs up Chris, because you did a great job putting those head to head; but I'm still old school. My cordage is my cordage. My Tinder and extenders are something different. If I can carry (or even only wear paracord), I can also keep a couple wet fire or something other in a pocket or somewhere. I guess in a pinch... maybe, if it was the only think I had on me. But then you'd also have to have something on you to ignite the stuff. Again... I'm old school... I try to be better prepared.
This is kind of cool. I always have paracord on me. My watch a bracelet and a belt. I should make it out of this stuff and add to my EDC. Thanks for sharing this cool video man.
Well thank you again I was going to buy the titan core but I have the copper wire and steel wire too so I guess I will buy more 550 blaze instead thanks again you guys have fun and be safe.
I love this type of cordage. Personally I have the one you missed. Pskook. Its prety cheap as well and has tinder, fishing line and cotton thread. Great video as always!
Yes performs better than the more expensive ones I have tested. Easy to light tinder! Worst are those that ad in stuff like kevlar or wire which has less strech than the rest of the cordage so under stress all is first just on this one threat. Can lead to a short internal break before full strech is reached and thus makes it unusable for knots. Also wire in it makes it harder to work with. For me please only tinder + fishing line added...rest is useless
4DB's cord is appealing. I use UST's to make lanyards and whatnot. My question is if 4DB is going to offer another (brighter) color? The nice thing about UST's cord is that when I need an emergency tinder I know what I'm grabbing. I know it's not just another hank of cordage. It would be cool if they offered it in a bright contrasting color scheme.
Great video. I agree with about the vaseline. Recently I've used dryer lint and melted wax and I found that to be very effective and essentially free as I have many old candles.
Hey Chris, I just wrote a message to this company on what a GREAT JOB you did on this video and promoting their cordage. I didn’t know how to contact them so I just wrote the message to them on there last TH-cam video they have up👍
My thoughts as well. I’d love to see someone separate the entire fishing line from the “Mother Cord”. I can’t see it being an easy task, especially in a survival or even a bush-crafting scenario.
No but I have had to use live fire sport in severe storm on a cold Febuary day in New England. I knew it would light because I had tried it and and other products soaking wet. Before I decided what to take. Just asking like to know limitation of products like you do. But Texas condition ain't new England conditions. So I'll get some and try it myself.
I wasn't in Texas when I field tested this... I was about 1,000 miles away and it ranned alot up there... I feel you may have missed the wet conditions we filmed and tested it in.
Wasn't questioning your testing, Just like to know that if I strip the fire cord out of the paracord and fluff it it rain and driving snow ( which will make it wet when it's fluffy ,if it will still light.). Thanks for the vid but like I said earlier I'll test it myself to get the answer. Just thought you might have tried it yourself. Search and Rescue in winter need things tat work 100%.
Sorry to bother you I was looking at buying a portable water filter and I remembered u had one that was battery operated I just can’t find which video it was on could u tell me again what the name is? Hope u and ur family enjoy your 4th of July
Chris did I win? I know your not having a contest today, but I thought maybe I could confuse you and you might just say yes....lol. OF COURSE I’m here because I love your channel so I’m doing to sit back and watch.......oh, let me know if I win anything today😂😂
I really like titán survivor cord, but I want to try the blaze cord but I can’t seem to find it anywhere online. Where can I buy it? Do they have 500’ spools?
Fireplugs are great and the best part is that you can easily make them yourself. Its dental cotton plugs soaked in wax (if you use wax with a lower melting temp then they fluff a bit better like komposite wax or adding in coconut oil into regular wax)...also works with cotton rounds Fireputty is really bad and very overpriced for how bad it is. could it be that the blazecord and psykook is the same cheap cord sold under different names? seems to perform the same
What kind of wax do YOU use? Curious to make some of these myself and save $$. Bought fire plugs from wazoo before and they're not cheap if you use them often
@@ewakingwood komposite wax is what you find in those graveyard candles that have a plastic casing. They need this because the wax has a lower melting temp and is softer and would all melt and flow away before burning at the wick without it. This wax is mainly hardened plant oil. So this is your soft wax. The harder wax you can use regular paraffin candle wax or the even harder stearin canlde wax. Mix until you reach the hardness you desire. This also depends on outside temperatures and during winter it is better to have more of the soft wax in the mix the dental plugs you can buy very cheaply online (also aliexpress). or just use cotton rounds
It would be helpful if you'd either label each one or name each one when you're talking about it. I had to scan back through your whole video to find out the name of 'this paracord.'
Hey Chris @DropForgeSurvival , I'm visiting my daughter just south of Houston and would love to meet up with you and get some hands on experience (apprenticseship ?). I'm leaving here by the latest Monday the 8th for two months of overlanding, but have no definitive plans (could spend that time helping you out and learning) then coming back to help the kid move. After that I'll probably head back to NJ but not sure as of yet. Not sure if you are in this area but again would really appreciate meeting up and maybe apprenticing with you for whatever you may need. J
ashtin foster knife reviews and more Spartan Tinder is very Very Versatile but also not a survival cordage and not the most “powerful” either. This is comparison of survival cordages
Matthew Butler But its not a Survival Cordage. Also I use T-REX Tape and I have a hell of a time lighting it with a firesteel! Also... As “PURE” Firestarter! I have my (2) favorites which i showcase in this episode also
DropForgedSurvival you can make cordage with duct tape, I’m not sure what poundage it would hold, but I’ve seen people swing on it while suspending themselves on TH-cam.
To me it's just foolish to cannibalize your cord. For one, you should carry some actual fire starter, basically weights nothing and takes no space, and most importantly easy to use. Same goes for fishing line or metal wire that's included in some survival cords. And if you see your firestarter is running out, you should have plenty of time to actually get some more before it runs out. And if you have matches or lighter, which should be your primary fire starting method, you most likely don't even need fire starter. If I was to make survival kit I would probably use something like bank line, it's strong enough unless you plan to start climbing. It's just more space and weight efficient.
*What is your favorite Cordage for the outdoors and why?*

Jack Stone Survival Cord is not cheap in my opinion for cordage
Well like you said Chris one that works when you need and two makes it worth the money. So 550 blaze cord wins my vote.

BlazeCord for the win!!!

Wow! Boiling water with that stuff was an awesome test! For the money I think that will be your best bet.. I might have to invest!

Plymouth Fenns 4 Directions does ship internationally I believe
I like it man good testing. Glad you made another testing video.

You can throw hard wax on cotton as well. higher melting point.
Man, Oh'oooo Man,great vid.. you changed my thoughts on tinder, without having to find it in the woods.. thanks..
I would much rather have my wire separate. fishing line too. Try to pull out 50 ft of mono or wire without ruining your cordage.
My thoughts as well. I’d love to see someone separate the entire fishing line from the “Mother Cord”. I can’t see it being an easy task, especially in a survival or even a bush-crafting scenario.
Good job
So… which one is the brand that performed best?
I would carry tampons but cordage works amazingly too.
Fire = best thing ever
Riley Patterson seems legit

Your welcome. I love the outdoors hunting fishing trapping & camping keep it up.
Soak them then freeze them in icetrays, break apart then test to see if they will light. Only a slight suggestion. ^.^
How much weight do they carry? Just asking, I mean its cordage in the first place!
Its 550 cordage...
@@DropForgedSurvival Just googled it, its not that commom here in Germany and I didnt know that its a standard. So its 249 kg for all ?
Is the blaze cord finally out for sale....if it is this Friday gonna try not to go crazy still got bills to pay lol......
jerry garcia definitely is out for sale. 50ft - 1000ft
Can you light it with cord on it
Of course... It becomes more like a "wick" in that point.
