Man I was hyped for the cycle frontier to continue but I got on one day and saw that it got tanked
Its a shame, the latest updates were pretty great and I was just getting back into it when they pulled the plug.
Had a massive cheating problem from day 1 and the loot was so tiered it was impossible to beat someone even if they were only 1 loot tier away from you. Was an awful experience overall.
tarkov aint dyin
I definitely feel mixed on it. Tarkov's doing better than ever, and Hunt Showdown continues to break their records of most concurrent players.
There are 2 new extraction shooters that I'm looking at with interest. Grey Zone and Beautiful Lights. Both seem to be taking the time to build out their mechanics in an engaging way.
DMZ and Hazard Zone were just COD and BF, respectively, with extra steps. They had the chance to build something that had impact and suspense, but instead we got the same soup that we've eaten a million times and it's beyond stale. In the end I'm glad that the big studios couldn't perform otherwise we would've gotten a whole slew of souless games devoid of any real emotion or struggle.
Fantastic comment, and you aren’t wrong. Neither DMZ or Hazard Zone were fully fleshed out, dedicated experiences so they might not be the best case studies for the viability of this genre.
@@Punggles I actually do think that it is necessary take them into account, especially when their massive player bases only experience with the genre is DMZ and Hazard Zone.
I was excited for DMZ. An extraction shooter? But with a triple A studio budget? Sounds great! But then... We got what we got , and it wasn't good.
@@Punggles Every wipe around the 1 month mark or towards the end of a wipe everyone and their mother uploads a "Tarkov killer, New game, Tarkov will be forgotten etc." video. And each year tarkov gets more player.
CS is the dominant ranked shooter since decades, i think it will be the same with tarkov. People that enjoy tarkov wont stop because of some new random game. Maybe they test the new one a bit but in the end theyll all coming back to tarkov. You can make a game close to tarkov but just another cheap copy wont "kill" tarkov.
@@chadratboi2849 It kinda reminds me of how wow was, obviously not the same game but it felt like there was always a "wow killer" around the corner, and yet wow always stayed on top
i disagree kinda see the others were made as cheap afterthoughts. I feel like bungie making a whole game around this genre could be something special but time will tell for sure
Ngl this topic makes me look back when people looked alot at the big issues of battle royale and how it was getting old fairly quickly but was able to go back up due to some games taking a new twist with the sub genre. I feel like its gonna happen similar to extraction shooters. But id say much more difficult to manage
Tarkov and Hunt are like what 7 years old now at this point? There is no way any indie unreal engine 5 game that I could literally make in a week would change any of it and even big stuios like bungie wont be able to maintain these kind of products! That's why DMZ failed. Developing the thing is easy but maintaining it is basicly the same as running a fully grown live service game!
Tarkov always did it best. I dont think anything can kill tarkov except tarkov.
Vigor is an extraction shoot thats decently successful... not a huge player base but very dedicated and the game is updated pretty regularly
i give marauders a bit of credit. they’ve done well so far with very little advertising, i think on release it will have a big increase in advertising and players.
Dark and darker is alive and doing well though
"RICK ROLLED! TWICE HOW DARE YOU!"
I think they all just need more time, I think the ones we have seen so far never had the heart or
budget compared to eft and hunt
EFT is meant to be an MMO with an open world. Extraction thing is a temporary feature there and the whole point of the game is high level of complexity - you can not just come and play it like CS or CoD, you have to invest. And it filters people, filters them hard. You can call it masochism of course, but it is more of a payment for better community... payment with own time and pain.
People who hate on EFT want a game that holds your hand while you do 360 no-scopes and unlock pot leaf decals for your gun.
Im looking ghost of tabor for some time. Its good but its riddled with Kids.
Grey Zone looks promising, but I really think Marathon has the best chance of taking a big stab at this genre. They always manage to make their guns feel amazing, I just hope they are willing to make the game difficult and not try to dumb the experience down.
You hit the nail on the head! I want tarkov experience but somewhere in the middle of it and call off duty. Something challenging but not something you have to dedicate your whole life to be good at it.
It's a tough one, I enjoyed The Division 1 & 2, however the extraction-only elements were locked within the endgame. Other than that, extraction shooters / modes are not my vibe - so it will be interesting to see what other games land over the coming 12 months and see what kind of impact they can have in this space! Great video as always mate!
I feel like im just sitting around waiting for a game that has equal amounts of depth, atmosphere, and content so I can stop pretending like Tarkov is a well designed game thats really worthy of being at the forefront of the genre. No other game is like Tarkov in terms of how close it is to achieving something genuinely great and ambitious but that uniqueness also is for the worse, the AI, Spawns, and UX are unironically some ot the worst Ive seen in a game that makes 100 million dollars in a year. Marauders has 1% of the player base but I can still be matchmade and be playing the game in no hyperbole half the amount of time that it takes to boot a Tarkov raid even if its something like Factory or Customs and the game can still run like shit with constant stuttering freezing and desync even though its 7 years old
idk tarkov has so much depth that you have to play for a few wipes before you really have a grasp of how to play, mostly I still play because i have progressed every wipe as a better player, i think wipes are necessary to keep the playing field even and its the reason people come back to tarkov, it wipes and then everyone is doing early tasks and running around with trash loot
The only thing gamers need to extract from this genre of games is FUN
Calling it new is a bit disingenuous. Remember the Darkzone from Division back in 2016 that will be close to a decade behind us once Marathon launches, let go even farther back remember the horror of seeing a red dot on you mini map while trying to leave the Wilderness in Runescape. Runescape Wilderness, their are adults alive that are younger then people trying to extract their loot from other player in Runescape. This is a very old idea that dev have been trying to make a thing long then many game franchise have existed, but at this point its clear that their is something about Extraction game mode that while clicking with a healthy playebase is not the mass genera studio hope it can be.
Let not forget this is not a push to have a game with mid hundreds of thousands of activity monthly player, that Halo Infinite level of players and that's a game that get referenced as having a dead player base. Studio want the tens of millions of monthly players the biggest games right now pull, Studios even want that Fortnight level of 100million plus monthly users. Extraction game have been around more then two decades and will not be going anywhere, this idea that it will be the next 100million player game will probably be gone as fast as hope for a Half Life 3.
I liked the cycle, it’s a shame the community dried up on it
Tarkov and Hunt showdown is all you need baby!!!
God do I hate these trash modern trends with a burning passion...
Marathon will make this genre great. Bungie still makes the best feeling shooters in the industry.
For what its worth After they killed dmz i Uninstalled cod and switched to lost light
there is something wierd about tarkov, everytime i play it i get so mad and frustrated and i end up taking long breaks from it thinking im never gonna play it again. but there is something that always pulls me back to play it. i guess its just the adrenalin rush that no other game can give.
I agree so much. Never have I ever loved and hated a game so equally like I do Tarkov
I've never wanted to love a game more than Tarkov but the downtime between fun, exciting moments is too much.
Tarkov is the game I’ve played that have the highest highs and lowest lows, when it goes well and you have a good time it feels like the most rewarding game I’ve ever played, but when it gets frustrating and you just lose all your shit time and time and time again to obscure stupid shit, and I stop playing it…for a while because I keep getting reminded of those rewarding thrilling moments and I need to give it another try
@@Punggles Sounds like you need to change up your playstyle. Push more fights, rat less
