Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town along the Romantic Road in Bavaria, Germany, about halfway in between Frankfurt and Munich. It is best known for its medieval town centre (Altstadt), seemingly untouched by the passage of time, encircled by the undamaged 14th-century town wall. In the Middle Ages, Rothenburg ob der Tauber was a free imperial city, reaching its apex of prosperity under mayor Heinrich Toppler in the 15th century with a large population of 6,000 - much larger than Frankfurt or Munich at that time. Today Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a small, quaint town and a big tourist attraction. Especially popular with American and Japanese tour-buses and organized groups, the town can feel a bit overcrowded sometimes, but its sheer beauty makes up for that and more than justifies its popularity.

Thank you for creating this amazing mini-tour of Rothenburg ob der Tauber! When I was stationed in Germany (1978-1981) in the US Air Force this was one of our favorite places to visit. There were some amazing restaurants out of the main tourist areas, and we always loved interacting with the local people that didn't expect to see American tourists in those places. Would love to revisit the area in person someday, and your video really gave a great sampling of the town.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a "never come true" dream. Since 2007 every Christmas time I always look at through the web cam in Marktplaz and see the lightening tree and all the people walking through the stalls. Thank you for this amazing video. I felt like I was there.

I must say you impressed me here …👏👌 The gimbal work is great…you even run and have some low shots that are so nice and the stabilization is perfect. For sure the wide angle lens helps a lot and probably in post production you stabilize also but the finish work is amazingly beautiful!

I went to Rothenburg in 2000. It was absolutely incredible. I highly recommend going. The feeling you get from walking through a place that historical is one of a kind. You will not regret going.

We have been there twice. The second time watching it again was not as rewarding as the first time. The first time I myself without the wife also visited the torture museum there and "My God" what the people could put their fellow human beings through to make them confess anything under torture. Well worth a visit.

Thanks , sometimes you need to do something different ;) i did some french towns ( Riquewihr , Ribeauvillé , Eguisheim , Colmar and Strasbourg and some swiss towns for sure ) but in the early days it was from germany , similar style bouldings as rothenburg !

A group of us visited here in May 1997, it was a Sunday IIRC and the town was crowded. Then they had to add a parade and we stuck behind the crowds lining the streets, we finally managed to squeeze into a store [behind us - mostly empty] that had a extra entrance into a side street - freedom. That ended our tour, it was almost time to meet up, we never even made it to the wall. Thank you for showing me more of the village, I doubt it has changed much since then - considering its heritage [except for the Christmas décor]. It was nice to see it not so crowded.

I did a two week tour in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in 1977. Rothenberg was one of the many places I visited. It is a beautiful city as is every place I visited. The take pride in the old architecture with the insides refurbished with modern facilities. I was awed at the restricted use of automobiles. I can honestly say it is much cleaner there than you will see in any US city. People were friendly and although German was common they all knew English as well. It is required in school. So not hard to converse. Beautiful countries all over Europe. If you get a chance please go, you will be amazed.

The family and I visited this beautiful town last summer. Great history, lots to look at. According to our guide, I believe the Kathe Wohlfahrt (10min mark) was one of the originals. They sell Christmas ornaments and decor. In most of the cities we visited in Germany. Brought back lots or purchases from those stores and from that one in particular. Love the video. Brings back good memories. Thank you.

: I knew Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber for the first time not from a documentary program nor from an encyclopedia but from the 7th episode of Yoko Tsuno Series, entitled "La Frontière de La Vie" or "On the Edge of Life". Later I found out that some people who had read it and then visited Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber would ask, "Where is the old cemetery?" or "Where is the underground lab where Magda Schulz was carefully taken care of between life and death?"
