Cesar Frank's wonderful organ music which so few members of the public know or have ever heard of Frank. This is a beautiful recital by Wouter Broek. I do wish TH-cam would refer us to somewhere one can buy a CD or get a recording.
If you think this is a good performance of Franck, you have yet to listen to other versions. Most pieces are played way too fast - Other comments back this up.
That's on a German-built organ that does quite a convincing impersonation of a Cavaille-Coll from the 19th century. It's a 4 manual, 52 rank Gerald Woehl instrument built in 1984. You can find its disposition here: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Remigius_(Viersen)#Orgeln
I do not play a keyboard instrument yet the scrolling score is such a gift! The visibility of the score helps to understand the various interpretations along with the composer's recommendations/instructions. (I am sure that there is a technical term for these marginal notes.)
Whoah...that Prelude, Fugue and Variation is so fast! You're not just fast overall in the piece, but at times you're cutting off phrases and speeding ahead. Yikes. Have a cup of herbal tea. Sit in the sun. Then come back and do that piece again. Lol. JK ...you do what you want. Quite competent playing still.
How well stated. Bach may be interesting in its entanglements, but Franck brings forth the power and range of the organ palette. Nothing like an A. C-C in a French Cathedral.
His playing is typical of Germans. Stiff, sterile, strict adherence to the noted on the page. There is little feeling in the Prelude. The pacing does not feel right - admittedly the notes are correct but a computer can do as well. The pastoral is too fast. Pastoral, gentle, peaceful, . A little slower might have more it more emotional. The Finale says Majestic. You are playing it like your pants are on fire. SLOW DOWN. The 3 Trios are played far too fast, These are solemn pieces. Are you playing to show how fast you can get through them? Play Bach if you want to show off. Do you think you are another Virgil Fox? NOT!!!!
@organbuilder272, could you be more detailed and less personal in your feedback. You say Wouter is playing sterile, and later that he's increasing the tempi. What's your ideal beat metrics? Anyway, I found it weird that you're comparing apples with pears (sterility versus Wirgil Fox)
The purpose of life is listening to the organ music of César Franck, especially Choral 3. Some people in the world have a higher purpose: playing Franck!

Fabulous interpretation of the 3 chorals. They are César Franck's organ masterpieces. The play is not pompous but joyous, tormented and flamboyant. Thank you so much.
I love the deep and sonorous tone of this organ. Moreover, unlike some commenters here, I have no problem with the tempi used by Wouter van den Broek. He is a fine interpreter of César Franck.
I meant to say in my post, a beautiful performance, notwithstanding the fact that the organ is in need of some restoration and it would have helped if the clergy might have cancelled the bell during the recital !! It seems to me that some of the pipes aren't sounding at all !!!
It feels so releasing to listen like a Kafka,Joyce that in The end has overcome (in)human society for a better world
It is impossible to part with this music. It touches all the strings of the soul - sometimes it calms, then it overwhelms with vague anxiety.

I think you'll find that Wouter van den Broek is in fact Dutch, not German.
