Greg A Smith is the frontrunner IMO. You can hear the acoustics of his drum where as a lot of guys sound too fake. Spencer's shoes will be hard to fill either way.
The dude is so legit hes been in my phone as Greg Gravity Blasts going on 20 years. Not a better personality nor performer fits the bill better than him. 🤘

Kevin Paradis is of course one of the best drummers in metal right now but I'd honestly prefer to see them put one of the small dudes in the limelight, there's some crazy talent coming from nowhere that deserves a chance.

I absolutely love Ulcerate and Merat is my favorite drummer... But to downplay Archspire is pretty unfair. They're incredibly gifted as well. This isn't football, you don't have to have "a team", you can appreciate more than one...

I don't know what these people are expecting to do when they have to play for the band if they're phoning in their auditions. All they're doing is wasting the band's time (if they somehow managed to not notice the bs) and putting themselves on a stage to fail. It's an audition to play AND write for this band. Like.. dude didn't even think another TAKE was worth the time. How the hell could anyone see that and expect to be able to rely on them as a band mate?
The top 3 (personal opinion) in no particular order: Kevin Paradis, John Longstreth, and Wildy Souza. Any of them would be a great fit though I'm really hoping it's Kevin.

I've seen them live 3 times. No other band I've seem comes into a set and nails it as cleanly as these guys do. They're big in Tech Death for a reason. They all excel.
That dude is actually a dope drummer. Drumeo just released a video of him 2 days ago and has over 400,000 views already. I'm sure he can actually play whatever he uploaded but it's probably several takes comped together and the snare and kick are compressed to tits or sample replaced.

Maybe the guy complaining about the ‚fake drumming‘ of Riccardo Merlini should have a closer look at Riccardos work. He‘s obviously picking on the wrong guy, as Riccardo is well known for his insane speed, especially on the snaredrum.

But that doesn’t excuse any cheating, and I’m not talking about triggering, but adding hits that simply does not exist is just not how you promote extreme drumming. That "someone" faked his drums is only Riccardo Merlini, the best Mike Mangini student and the fastest hands alive. Can't fake that, besides that video was heavily edited and later uploaded raw. Also, that "garbage" is probably the best fit for Spencer.

To be fair, I would not be shocked if even Spencer faked his own shit. Extreme metal being fake is something that producers mention all the time.
I have a friend whos a drummer and he can play archspire shit perfectly . So could george kolias from nile.
Spencer is a beast! I’ve sat right in front of him a whole set. He makes a few mistakes but overall he’s damn near spot on the albums.

There's a huge difference between playing a relatively easy 200 bpm Dragonforce song and playing a 350 bpm Archspire song.
