    genuinely this is the way ive thought about my art 4 a couple years now, and its helped me a lot with enjoying what i make, and the process of it a lot more. drawing 4 an audience gets really draining and in my case i just didnt like how any of it turned out, it just sorta took the fun outta creating 4 me, cuz i was focusing way more on what people would want 2 see from me, and not what i actually wanted 2 make. sure the attention was nice but once you stop caring about that and create just 4 yourself i swear its so so freeing. i really like this video, the painting is absolutely gorgeous and it was really cool 2 see the process of it developing while listening 2 you talk, definitely will be checking out your other videos!

    I blamed social media for distorting the artist perception. I saw a really crappy drawing that got more followers than a detailed painting near a style of Michael Angelo. Of course, there are exceptions: maybe the crappy art is really funny or ironic, while the other doesn’t. I guess those that are viral have good jokes or stories to tell. It doesn’t matter how technically great your art is if you’re not trying to hit the marks of making something relatable, humorous, or ironic.

    • @SketchbookTimeMachine
      @SketchbookTimeMachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good insights here, Giezelle. Like you said, unfortunately life (and making art) is not a meritocracy. Frankly, for art to be popular (make money, get likes, etc) it doesn't matter how "good" it is. It only matters that other people like it. So the thing to remember is that we better like (and like making) our own art- can't count on others to give a crap. 😁

    To me, as a young artist, things like popularity, fame and fortune, mean absolutely nothing to me, its like, just because someone is big online, doesn't mean that their work is the same, and themselves as a person,
    The only thing that truly matters to me, is being a person, making friends, helping out others, and enjoying my life all together, as simple as it may be.
    Even at times where I'm at my lowest points, I just keep going because, knowing that you have people both onand friends that truly care about you even if its only 5 or 10 people, is way better then having 100k followers on twitter who are only there just because you draw NSFW content 24/7.
    P.s, even if it isn't exactly related to anything in this video, I'd learned these myself.

    don't you feel sometimes that people don't give a shit about stuff until the stuff gets hyped? like, as if people know your art and don't give a shit about it until you somehow start to get "famous" by your art... of course not many people give a shit about my stuff, so I'm thinking this by observing many cool artists that go under the radar while people go bananas for stuff that doesn't get even closer as good, but because everybody likes it, so people give a shit, even in an unconscious manner (like they don't really think of how they got their taste for that one piece of art) ... kinda like just because it's trendy, even if they don't know that's the reason... sorry for this long comment... also, congrats for your art, this video is a whole piece of art itself

    • @SketchbookTimeMachine
      @SketchbookTimeMachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! I totally think that most of the time, Silver Champagne! There's a big herd-mentality in the world about art, music, fashion, politics, etc... but there are also tons of people out there who know what they like and why- those are the ones I'm after with my vids! Thanks for watching- I appreciate it!

    • @sloppy_hand
      @sloppy_hand 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SketchbookTimeMachine herd-mentality! That's the expression I was trying to remember (my main language is portuguese, I am brazilian)! It's really about that... I study visual arts at the university here and I think I am reasonably good at painting, and people around me really cherished that.. but then as I started to move towards creating music, I started to feel like people only gave shit to my painting (it was easier because I am naturally more talented to painting than to playing music, and in music I like to be more raw and play in a reckless manner than in painting..). I really don't feel appreciated by my music from people who I know personally. And Iove making music. It made me feel blocked painting. And then I figured out people dont care about my music not only because they may feel I suck, but it can be because I am into a dying style of music, like 70s rock and jazz etc.. I feel like living in a wrong timeline.. thanks for the chat (and reading to my complaining so far lol)

      I understand... it's a bummer when you feel like you're the only person who likes what you like or what you make. But you're right, we all need to just enjoy and make the art that we love, because that's what matters!

    I posted artwork on FB, get a few likes i post a controversial subject and it gets so much engagement or there's certain friends that only comment on my post to disagree, then there's artist I get inspired by but i don't get no likes from them,
    Maybe i should post controversial art? Then it will get the likes and engagement,
    I do like your comment of doing art that you like just for what's personal to you.

      I agree, trying to get your art noticed is SUPER frustrating sometimes, especially when you see crappy art get a gazillion likes! Aaaarg! I hate to be a hater, but.... I guess the only answer is to keep practicing, get better and in the end, just make art for yourself. Thanks for watching!

    Serious topics and humor aren't ennemies. They're actually best friends.
    Nobody cares about your Art, until your start drawing naked women... then your "fanbase" grows exponentially larger (pun intended). That's the way it is. Most people aren't interested in Art unless it's fun and/or exiciting in some way.
