I really dig all the camera angles, too many to count. Those drone shots are awesome, you really have a beautiful piece of property Matt. Thanks for sharing.
I agree! I 've been watching your videos since you first started building your amazing saw mill, which, I think, outperforms many of the "pro" sawmills that are used in making sawmill videos. However, I can't decide which series I've enjoyed more, the sawmill build or your new house renovation with Donovan. Either way, I feel your camera skills have continued to improve, to the point of them being on par with the best of "Hollywood" Directors of Cinetography. I would really like to watch an episode where another good "cinetographer" followed you around as you made one of these videos to show all of the work you put into setting up the perfect camera angles to produce the great videos you do, as well as the excellent editing you do afterwards. My admiration continues to increase. I look forward to each of your videos, no matter the subject [okay, I'll admit I usually skip the "coffee" table "shop talk" videos where you discuss your latest "commercial" projects, but kudos to you for making a good career out of all this!] 😎 You have a lovely family, and I'll bet they are extremely proud of you!
Hey, Matt! You inspired me to build a massive 5' x 8' "barn" door for my shed. Unfortunately, I did not have access to the beautiful slabs you create, so I sorted through an entire bunk of Home Depot redwood 2x6's to find 10 relatively straight ones, which I dowelled & glued together with the traditional "Z" of 1x6's to make what I & my friends call an awesome door! Never mind that it probably cost in the neighborhood of over a thousand dollars for materials & labor [I needed a neighbor to help, as I am 68 years old & cannot handle that kind of project by myself 😏].
Love, love, love the character of both logs! The elm is so pretty! I have seen epoxy projects using the character of trees similar to the "bad" white oak and they are stunningly beautiful! Anyway, I enjoyed the work here today. Absolutely beautiful!
I love watching you process your logs. I've learned a ton about sawing and wood grain from your commentary, enough that I bought a live edge plank to cut in 3 pieces to finish up for kitchen shelves. Thank you for the inspiration! I'll attach a photo when I'm done!
I understand why you throw water on the logs to make the grain come out so you can look at it but isn't that counterproductive? don't you want the logs\slabs\ wood to be as dry as possible?
Matthew, it's great that you have a sawmill that you can cut the bigger logs with. I know that you have gone other places to help others build a sawmill that they could saw bigger logs with.
You are so skilled juggling heavy logs with your fork-lift thingamees, Matthew. It's impressive what one experienced man can do with the right equipment.
O man! Glad you dropped another slabbing video! Absolutely love watching them open up and seeing what’s inside! Can’t wait to get home tomorrow and make some lumber myself! Keep the good times rolling man!
Mike I am watching U slab the Oak and Elm. The elm swirls remind me of the giant storm on the planet Jupiter. I try to find that in my hunting knife handles. I have a small TK mill and love to slab oak but I am 81 years old and don’t have strength to operate by myself. Love your videos. Beautiful farm you have. I also have a 40 acre outside Dallas, Tx
Matt, as soon as you're done with the first phase of the house reno, you should do Linds the biggest favour ever and find that sawmill a new home (somewhere down the field) away from your house....it must create an immense amount of dust... (Linds, don't worry, we, the fans, got your back!!!) 😋
I think a lot of us have thought the exact same thing, and believe the plan is for a saw mill shed, once he has time and money to build one and move electrical to it. Maybe the saw mill shed will be built with a dust extractor to the outside and a hoist mounted to ceiling for moving logs and helping to turn them too. I'm sure moving the saw mill for now gets old, and a new permanent location away from the house will make a lot of people more happy! :o)
@@jimmieusaf-pol5818 yeah, thought as much as well. I guess the biggest thing to move it permanently is getting power to the new area. other than that I think it would have happened sooner.
I'll admit I didn't see the potential in the Telehandler when you bought it. Since then you've certainly proven its very much the right tool for the work you do. Its fun to see it doing work like a champ.
Hey Matt, looks like you guys are doing good. I have been working a lot this summer. Those slabs look very useful. I am still "experimenting" with coffee table designs. Watching you slab up material never gets old. You guys take care now.
I’ve gotta laugh at how “disappointed” you sound at a completely clear piece of elm slab! It just looks beautiful to me, a guy who doesn’t see a whole lot of slabs day to day. Love your videos and your positive disposition!
It's so funny how far you have come. I remember the chain saw mill setup and at this point you have tons of logs laying around you just move your mill around like a toy..."make all your tools mobile"..lol
I feel your pain. Although nothing quite as big as the biggest logs you have, but we have some big logs, (48" Black Walnut) and a large number of logs. Hoping one day to catch up.
Matt, a long time back in your old house you where asked about automation of the head of the saw, (when cutting ie let the head move with out you having to physically use the hand cranked winch) you basically put of the reply to a later date. Just looking at you using the mill today have you considered putting an electric winch at the log end of the table on a foldable bracket that you could if needed fold down or lift up, then with the cable hooked to the head (you would probably need a Y Shaped lead to the head with swivel.,) Using a remote control you could stand just about anywhere around the mill while milling and filming if needed. You could also mount the winch at the HEAD End and run pulleys down under the mill table to the far log end and back to the head It would mean that you you get less excersise, but you wouldn't loose any control. @@judithfairchild8620 have you thought why did he buy the mini bobcat, then when he moved to the new place the telly handler then, I don't know how many years you have been watching Matt but he used to struggle moving the huge logs onto the mill in the old place then stacking them by hand. As you age it is a wise person who realises if you don't look after your body it won't look after you. Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺
True so it isn't a matter of moving logs it's a matter of doing the work he can do that he truly enjoys. My pastor had a sawmill and he loved seeing what a tree was like on the inside. He said you never know what you'll find an Matt is the same way.
Your new place gives you room for big toys now I see. Sure beats that little stand up fork lift. Years ago, when I worked construction, I ran a Pettibone reach fork lift 4 wheel drive.
almost forgot. your previous videos gave me the inspiration to dry some slabs in my basement. i have a nice cold storage room that works perfect for it. with the dehumidifier and fan running it gets up to 26 deg C. i currently have an American elm drying in their from my property. Thank for the great videos man. its at 12% in a matter of 2 months!
A real treat watching you cut slabs this morning. I should have been working around the house, but I watched you work instead. Your tele-handler is very cool, but I did watch in amazement as you moved all the wood around with noting bigger than the stand behind skid steer. Remember the 'tool' you rigged up to turn heavy slabs over, so they could be put on the pile correctly? Thanks!
If I had a way to move the boards to stack them neatly like you do, I think I could operate a sawmill. I'm 76 years old so I don't know. I don't have a way to get a sawmill so I will just dream on.
The mystery revealed! I love it so much :) Oh and that pull back shot with the drone was spectacular! So much green, the land looks in rude health for sure.
10:20 .. Looks like some great tops for Student Desks, especially now that laptops have gotten so powerful. A short stand to allow for heat dispassion, a large stand alone screen, and away they go. 😁
I’ve been watching your content since early in the pandemic and just now, today, realized your logo is a reference to dovetail joinery. Wow, that took me far to long.
After the house project is completed. I'd like to see Matt use these shorter elm slabs in a project. And, maybe he could auction them off to help a charity in Minnesota. Thanks!
Matt , you should try to rig up an automatic gravity feed water drip for your blade , maybe a gallon jug with a ball valve glued into the side of jug and rubber hose letting water drip on the blade. Just a suggestion0.
Happy 4th of July to you and your family Matt! Nothing says freedom to do what you want by slabbing up some "waste" logs! Most will go watch fireworks... Your fans came to see the sawdust fly.
So nice to see you using all this equipment to do the heavy lifting. For years it was just your back. Hopefully now you will have a healthy back for your older years.
I called David Heide for you, to let him know he left his sign outside your garage. The bullseye looks like an eye. It would be cool to bookend that one
Yes, that one "bullseye" reminded me of a black hole sci-fi scene. A bookend of that would be phenomenal [to borrow a word from another comment I replied to]. 😎
I just love all your machinery. Do you make the coffee tables and dining room tables or just mainly sell the slabs to others to make them? what do u do with all the saw dust? Love watching the log sawing and seeing the gorgeous wood. your property is beautiful.
Have you ever seen a building level? It is just a garden hose with transparent extensions at both ends filled with water. The meniscus at one end is exactly level with the meniscus at the other end. Good for 10' or 200'.
👏👏👏🏼👏🏼👏🏽👏🏽😁 Thanks Matt good to see you in old time spaces, not that the house isn't looking good I too just need a little wood work, & then you cut two at the same time aaah something must be wrong with me but I know it's the end product & the sounds 🤪 p.s. great advertisement board are you charging...U should!
Have you ever done blanket chests for the kids? slabs of that size/length would seem just about right for a twin bed upto queen size. With the cracks in the oak, glue ups?
Happy 4th of July. Those logs didn't look like they would cut down into such a nice pile of really decent slabs. Your holiday pastime may have earned you potentially $K's of $$'s. Great job too; lover the videos .
Matthew, your day to day life is a joy to watch!!!...thank you for sharing!!! What would it cost to ship a 2'x8'x 2" slab of white oak from you to me in PHX? Who would the shipper be?
Quite honestly, this is what I watch from you... It's what got me here. I like watching the wood being cut.
Like a surgeon with that JCB now Matt

Nice break from the Reno. Glad your family had fun this weekend!
That tele-handler and small track are awesome.
Great looking wood, nice break from the remodel. Thanks for sharing Matt. God Bless.

The elm slabs are just the right size for sewing and cutting tables.l love the grain in both logs. You got a lot of great slabs for your days of work.

Great to see you save beautiful wood that would have just been burned or chipped. Wish more people treated wood as the limited resource you do.
As a wood turner, when I watch you sawing trees, I can't help but think of all the bowl blanks hidden in those logs! 😂⚓🌳 Happy 4th!!!
Thanks what I think as well. Lots of bowl blanks
Lots of a lot of things...
lots of bowls in those boles! ;)
As a wood cutter, all I can think of is all those nails from kids, fences and clotheslines hiding for 100 years.
Out of a 30+" diameter log, a set of nesting bowls (might need to make your own bowl corer), with the largest one 30" diameter.
Great video! Relaxing by working: that ain’t working!!

You've got the best toys!
Please show more sawing videos. They a relaxing to watch, almost hypnotic.

Really great to see the water splash again Matt! Something oddly soothing about cutting something up.
Love the 'high tech' on/off switch wiring....
Love your new place!! Good job on video production! My favorite is when we get to see the results after splash bucket!!

Nice to see you cutting up logs again but also loved the build that is some home you have now
Love the hidden secrets of the wood🥰
I swear I smelled that oak being cut. Great cinemaphotography! I have to rest now, I took a minute to spell that.
glad you decided to share this today makes me happy
That's a lot of wood from 2 small logs and a relaxing weekend 😊
Your overhead shot of your spread was majestic. Enjoyed the video tremendously, thanks for sharing. I’m new to your channel and I’m hooked.
Thanks!

Gorgeous! My first ever log on my sawmill is an elm. Super nice and heavy tree!
One man's boring wood is anotherxs treasure. Straight grain is great for cabinets...
I think his slabs are better than cabinet wood.

Great stuff Matt....Enjoy your videos and knowledge. Peace Out

Great to see you having fun stabbing some more beautiful chunks of wood!!
Lots and lots of table tops and epoxy worthy slabs
Awesome slabs Matt! Glad to see you back on the mill!
Great to see Drone footage
