When I heard there were some old out of service military batteries near by, I decided to plan a trip. Today we started out in Silverdale. Did some quick shopping to replenish Yellowbird hot sauce. Then we drove out to Bainbridge Island to find the batteries. On the southwest side of the island is Fort Ward Park. At Fort Ward we checked out Battery Thornburgh and Battery Vinton. Both are now historical landmarks.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

It's the simple things that bring happiness to life
Very true
@@StaticCamperVan
As I always say, " simplicity is my best friend. "❤️
I spent two frustrating hours earlier today working on a shower diverter valve. Got it fixed. And, I have to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed this video. You have a relaxing voice and demeanor. Thank you for calming my frayed nerves, Scott.❤
Thanks so much
I didn't do anything as productive as you but I had to chime in bc I was thinking the exact same thing about his calming voice. He has such a genuine perspective. Last time I remember thinking like that was probably kindergarten ( that's actually a compliment. ) ❤
e@@StaticCamperVan
I went to school in Silverdale at the sub base. Love the PNW.
You’re the man. I could sit and watch your videos for hours. I really thank you for your time.
Thank you
You excel at describing the minutia of van life while giving us a tour of beautiful locals and tutelage in gourmet nuances, conveying a peaceful philosophical slant on life. Respect!
Thank you Denise
I like your videos they are so relaxing, as a Florida native I generally hear nothing but negative things about the West Coast states (Usually political rants), it is nice that you don't go that route.
Thanks, the west coast is a wonderful place
As a west coast native, we too have the political rants, but that doesn’t take away from most of it just being so beautiful.
As a Coastal California native who now lives abroad , I can say I don't understand the negativity AT all. I'm constantly traveling and the Pacific coast from Seattle to San Diego is still the most beautiful and diverse topography I've ever seen. And the the people are pretty chill as well 😁 It always warms my heart to go back to the west coast. Nothing like it anywhere. Safe travels Scott
The NW is probably some of the most beautiful country in the states. That's an entirely different subject from " the politics"
Yet I'd consider a more realistic viewpoint if you're traveling there as costs are much higher incl. taxes
"...a little heavy-handed with the Yellow Bird..." 😂 👍🇨🇦😎☕🍪🍪🍪
When it tastes good and doesn't hide the savor in the food, Definitivamente 👍🏼
Also, on your recommendation I ordered a 5 pack of flavors from Amazon if the Yellow Bird, and I love the Serrano! Jalapeño is ok, still have to try the other 3. ❤
I enjoyed them and found only 4 in Texas and loved the taste in each one
Great to hear that you are liking the hot sauce
I wish I could take a nice walk in nature like that! Since I can’t right now, thanks for taking me along. 👍
Thanks for the history lesson today Scott. As a result I read more about the area and read that Fort Ward was a top-secret military listening post during WWII and had a code name “Station S”. Apparently the area was perfect for listening to Japanese Morse code communications which soldiers would translate and they picked up important messages just prior to the Pearl Harbour attack. Very interesting history there! The article said that the writer David Kahn included this in one of his books about Code Breakers. Thanks for coffee and a history lesson today Scott😊.
Yet cell service wasn't great he said at start of hike 🤔 Technology.
Bainbridge Island is one of my favorite places in the world.
I can see why!
🌲🏞🌿Such the beauty to behold. So great contentment hearing the water lap the shore 🌿🏞🌲
loved the shot of the goose family
haha, I didnt realize you had the Olympia Coffee Roasters sticker in your kitchen... maybe I didnt notice it before. I picked one up for my wife on Saturday.
Haha, I bought that silly sticker last year
I feel.so at peace when watching your videos
Thank you for that
Your day was beautiful and you got your rain to help you sleep
Olwen in California 😊
I think it means you have 4 hrs parking from the time the parking time restriction starts, so til noon.
98 in Portland. I’m in the shade at Oaks Park with my van.
Thanks Scott! 💕 nice hearing the rain, sweet dreams. 🙏🏻🕊🧂😇💙
Thanks so much for this video! I can’t drink coffee because of health issues, but tea and Jesus is all I need.
As a born and raised Washingtonian I enjoyed your video so much, and actually learned a lot of cities I don’t know much about.
Thanks Heather
I make my pizza similar to how people make a decent french baguette.
Water, white flour, whole grain flour, seeds/grains/oats/whatever I have, and salt. Plus yeast mix.
My actual recipe:
225g water
150G whole grains
200G White flour
10G kosher salt
Proof yeast for 20 minutes
35G water
10G Instant Yeast
Rise, mix, and strengthen like a french Baguette. Or don't. It comes out fine either way. I'm sure you have enough experience to cut that down, adjust to your needs, and figure it out without explicit directions.
Thanks for everything!
Another super relaxing video Scott! Also that jacket you have is a great look!
I found a dmall bottle of Yellow Bird Serrano at Walmart for $1. Looking forward to trying it ❌⭕, Iris and Little One 👋🐾
It was so nice seeing that area with you. It is lovely. I have to thank you for suggesting using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for my tacos. I’m not able to buy sour cream in Spain. Stay well. 👍🥰
You’re welcome
Awesome video Mr. Scott, that seem like a very nice place.
Thank you
Hi Scott, another very enjoyable vlog, very scenic, very low key, not at all hyper (which I love) and also informative. Thanks for bringing us along on all your travels. Dave
Thanks Dave
Lakeshores are beautiful. You're lucky to be able to travel all over and be next to nature whenever you like.
Oops, you're on an island. So seashores are also beautiful. 😁
Hi Scott, Sure enjoy coming along on your tours. I have never been to the Pacific North West so its always new and fresh content for my eyes. It appears to be so green and lush there. If i ever get there i will know where to get good coffee and Yellow bird.
Lovely video. Beautiful location Washington is such a lovely state, and the islands have spectacular scenery. I must try some yellow bird. Amazon has a nice selection. Love your presentation. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. You always find nice places and adventures to invite us to.
You’re welcome. Thanks for coming along with me
Glad you stopped in Silverdale. I live in Kingston and consider Kitsap county the most beautiful! Sadly you come to visit my home area when I left to do a trip around the USA. Enjoy!
Another great video Scott. It reminded me of how great it was to live in Des Moines and hike in all the wonderful parks through little forests with views to the sound and blue snow-capped mountains. Also the cute towns with bakeries and cafés. Well, here's wishing you well. It's great to see these wonderful places again.
Ah, yes. Des Moines has some amazing views too. Thanks Joanne
Crime has increased. Sad to say.
Nice video, I enjoyed it. 👍
Aero press + Humboldt Coffees! For the PNW lifestyle! Another great video Scott. Thank you- your channel is one of the best- very informative n interesting
Aww, thanks
Another great video. And thanks for ending it with the rain gently falling on your roof.
I love Washington state. I live in Los Angeles but originally from Portland Maine and I found Washington similar to Maine but without the bone chilling winters 😊
Wow I DID ENJOY THE SHARE! Thanks ALL THE BEST-EASTCOAST HERE☕️👋
Just discovered your channel and subscribed today. As a west-coaster (by way of Hawaii), I've been to most of the places you've traveled, but not for a while because of the pandemic - thank you for reminding me to get out and explore this beautiful part of the world! Safe travels! ❤
Hey thanks. Safe travels to you as well
Ah, the rain at the end, soooo soothing........
Beautiful views! Nice & relaxing before bed. Thanks for sharing Scott, have a good night!
Thanks, you too
Oh just lovely and isn't it great! getting up really early during the summer months Scott ? That quiet peaceful moment❤
Greetings Scott, you were almost in our back yard. We'd love to meet you here, there or Pt Townsend.
It’s a great yard you’ve got
Enjoyed your tour of the area. Looks like some place I might like to go. Loved the 3 mice and cat fountain! The batteries were interesting and would intrigue me as well. Beautiful trails and forest, along with the beachfront spot. You seem like a chill guy to watch, so I think I'll subscribe if you don't mind. Have a good one!✌
My brother could show you ALL there is to see around here. I sent him a link to your video. Exploring the Peugeot sound is one of his favorite hobbies.
I'm not a morning person either 😏 enjoy the cooler weather in the morning the heat here in castle rock wa is too hot.. 😒 enjoy your pretty scenery..
It’s a little hotter than I prefer
@@StaticCamperVan I agree.
Grew up in Silverdale, live 10 miles north in Poulsbo now. If u want to see some amazing battery’s head up to Port Townsend to Fort Warden!
I love Port Townsend and Fort Worden is my favorite Washington State Park th-cam.com/video/RTFt5VCh9Go/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Qa2RhPTp4DvkyMCn
Scott, i haven't tuned into YT in over a week because of connection issues, but, as soon as i got one, i started catching up with how everything is going by you. I think and believe that us viewers really appreciate your calm tone of voice and down to earth humble videos.
Good to see you, I'm here in Tillamook after being in Washington yesterday and it was steam heat. Arrrgh.
Its always so good to see you enjoying your life. Stay safe and keep sharing. Thanks
Thank you. I appreciate you watching
Another great episode! Thanks Scott.
Hey, it's my town, Bainbridge Island! You must have a bit of lead time between recording these and posting them, because we just went through a longish stretch of 80-90 degree weather with no rain at all, and hardly any clouds. Now it's cooling down and clouding up again. It is a pretty good place to live, but yeah, very spotty cell service unless you're in downtown City of Bainbridge Island, which you didn't go to in this vid. Sorry about the graffiti, but that might be the only spot on the island where you will see it, except for the traditional high school senior asphalt tagging at graduation time. BI was also the location of a shortwave radio listening post during WW II, for monitoring Japanese radio, and the first place where Japanese-American citizens were evacuated from after Pearl Harbor. There were also notorious spots where bootleg liquor was smuggled in from Canada during prohibition. Nowadays, it's an attractive, handy bedroom community for the upper middle class and wealthy. There are still some small farms here, but not like it used to be -- still got some forrests, though. And more of those damn roundabouts, ecch. Oh, and you need to save for a month to eat out once.
Thanks for the info. It’s a great area. Last trip was mostly about getting a coffee at Pegasus. This trip was a little more enjoyable for me.
I can’t believe it’s that cool there? Wasn’t Seattle experiencing the heat wave too? Crazeeee. I’ve gotta move NORTH!
Most all my videos go up on a delay. This was recorded a few weeks ago
@@StaticCamperVan ohhhh..did not know this was a few weeks ago since it says it was posted 4 hours ago on the sub. Ok. Well I hope u are staying COOL my friend! Thanks for the relaxing and informative videos.
If you like batteries and love beautiful scenery then you need to get over to Whidbey Island and go to Fort Casey in Coupeville (middle of the island). Great fort and beautiful layout with a light house. Coupeville is an idyllic small town. Just anywhere on the island is beautiful!!
Yes, it’s been a few years since I’ve been out to Whidbey
Im currently enjoying Mike's Chilli Mushrooms, I leave them for a year so the Chilli infuses into the Shitake mushrooms
Ohhhh, that sounds tasty
Thank you Scott, I needed a laugh and you had me right up till the end. Ha!
That makes me happy
Glad it was cool on that side of the sound. 94 on this side with possible 96 tomorrow. No ac at this point.
Oh no. I hope you’re staying cool. It’s very warm where I am currently but not in the 90’s
@@StaticCamperVan my friend in Ocean Shores who said she had to put on a sweater today is coming to visit me tomorrow. If she didn’t have an appointment here she would cancel. No, I’m not very cool. I have 3 of those mini swamp coolers called Artic Air that only provide a little relief if you sit right next to them.
@leonaweltzer4023 maybe you can go to your friends in Ocean Shores
@@StaticCamperVansadly too many obligations where I am. Record temps over in a couple of days. Hope to get to my trailer again soon at Gold Bar Nature Trails where it’s cooler. Busy busy summer but one item includes installation of a heat pump, but still waiting for estimate and date.
Stay cool yourself, mobile friend.
Ft. Worden and Ft. Flagler have huge battery tunnels if you are still in the area exploring. You can camp at both places too.
I probably won’t be visiting Fort Worden this year since I just did a video last year:

I hear your comments and feelings about roundabouts. They’re just putting them here in Western New York and I absolutely love them. But I have to tell you many people express their feelings about roundabouts just as you do.
PS: my mother absolutely refuses to drive anywhere that has roundabout. I’ve tried to work with her on it and she’s like I hate them.
Good to see my favorite vlogger back. Such a beautiful area. Nice jacket, and haircut!
Thanks Richard
Thanks!
Aww, Thanks so much Denise
Only 14:12 in & 2 tings u seem in a splendid mood , ur editing sills improved 😮💨, hail up brethren, alway a gud day wen u post , tek it easy & god bless 🙌.
Thanks Ameer
Loved this SO much ❤️ 👍
Thanks Raven
I haven't explored Washington yet but it's high on my list for next spring.
We used to call it Braindead Island because of the terrible drivers.
True
My noise website has a great thunderstorm sound generator to help lull you to sleep at night. I use it everyday...except when it's actually raining.
When the parking sign says “4 hours, 8-6” you can actually park from 2 pm until noon the next day. The last four hours and the first four hours of the parking limit. After six you can park overnight. I used to do it on Bainbridge all the time when I worked in Seattle.
Perfect way to spend my evening after working outside in my garden this eve. We are on our 3rd triple digit temp day in a row, here in Eugene, Oregon!!! Stay cool Scott!!
Oh my, that sounds terrible
I've been to that park. Walked the trails all through there. It is really beautiful out there ❤❤❤❤❤
What a lovely video!!! A beautiful place, great views, good shopping - perfect. I hope you slept well.
I slept very well. One of the best parking spots ever. Thanks Liz
I love plain yogurt on tacos/taco salad and on Indian dishes. Much healthier too.
Go to Union ,Wa. It’s much prettier out there. Silverdale is unincorporated and is not a city. Bremerton is the city. I have lived in this area since 1988.
: ) THANKS MUCH and WELL DONE indeed ! ! ALL the BEST and ENJOY, Cheers : )
Thanks Marty
Cheers drinking coffee - (Humboldt Bay Coffee Company )
I have seen Fogline- been thinking I need to try it.
Humboldt does have some fine coffees- for sure!
Fogline sets up a booth at the Arcata Farmers Market on Saturdays. They always have samples available as well as cold brew.
It's been really hot here around Lynnwood the past few days. Too hot for me for sure. Wish I was out on the coast right now ❤❤❤❤❤
Lol I forgot there was a Lynwood over there
You were correct. I got the town name wrong in this vlog. It is Lynwood Center.
Those wonderful short rainfalls were sun showers. Whenever I get caught in one, a song from the past enters my mind; Sun Shower by Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band. Best days ever! I hope you had cookies and coffee at the end of the day. Those sun showers make cookies and coffee taste even better, in my opinion.🍪🍪☕️
That’s a new song to me. Yes, I enjoyed all the cookies as I have no will power with those TJ’s cookies
It’s a big and swing-influenced disco band that had a pretty unique sound back in the 70’s. The song “Sun Shower” had children singing background.
@ChippiSweet I just listened to Sun Shower, it is a very unique song
Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it 😊 from IDAHO
Hi there scott yes I was surprised that you were up so early. Great view also you had grass fed burger all you needed was some sourdough bread to make a cheeseburger. Drive safely
Hope you are safe in the extreme heat reported on UK news for north west this week
I’m managing, just barely
Lovely update! With the heat so oppressive right now, the rain and cooler temps in your vid are refreshing. Every time I see you make tacos, I think I'd like to try making them that way ... and then I forget when I have corn tortillas. Maybe today will be the inspiration that happens!
Oh you simply must have tacos on the regular
Beautiful spot #thankyou🌟 #enjoythejourney ♥️♥️♥️
❤ Love your video's.
Thanks Maryann
excuse me for a moment but why does this type of entertainment seem so right? I love it! I could watch these everyday. Its great detail of interesting things if you just listen closely.
thanks Scott! or as my family calls you "static" :)
I appreciate that, thanks Jason
Watching this for the second time because I fell asleep half way through (again) last night. Such a soothing manner of speaking you have! ps. I use greek yogurt as sour cream too!
Happy to hear that I did my job well
Ahhhh…and he shows the bakery name he went to at the end! Looks yum.
Thanks for noticing that detail
Take a look at Fort Casey. Its a part of the Triangle of Fire. They helped protect Boeing as well. Fort Townsend, Fort Warden and Fort Casey. :-) Be safe sir!
It’s been years since I’ve been to Fort Casey but I probably won’t make it back this year
Oh my gosh that coffee looks perfect.
Hi from London I really like your accent so relaxing a gentle voice.I’m like you a night owl 🦉 l love coffee.I’ve gone off of ever putting a foot in the sea since jaws also the old film the pasiden adventure starring Shelly winters a lovely actress.i don’t think I have spelt the film title right.have a pleasant evening.oh also just remembered another film.called open water.just give me a paddling pool.nynite.
Hey Scott! You are up early and that coffee looked so good! Beautiful footage in today’s video esp with the Canada Geese. What Yellow bird would you recommend for someone who likes flavour but not a lot of heat? Hope you meet lots of kind people in this community:) Cheers!
The Sriracha is mildly spicy and a little sweet
another calm video. Thanks
Its been raining nearly ever day in England since last October, we have had no summer yet in north England where i live. Fed up with it. Bainbridge island looks so pretty.
Ohhh you thought 7:30 was Early. 😅 ok.
Thanks for bringing us to such amazing places. 😊
Awesome video Scott, thank you! You should head up to Whidbey Island and see Fort Casey! It’s beautiful
You remind me a bit of Bob Ross! Hello from West Seattle!
Another great travrlog. You never cease to bring amazing footage in sceneries.
Kno how you feel when wanting to get something and can't find, then the "AhA" moment. There it is. Such as the little things indeed.
😂 got me laughing, gracias.
Aaa great finale 🌧
Thanks Berni
Another enjoyable video Scott, Thanks
Thanks Jan
Awesome, i will put that location on my list. I love birch bay. I love my sea to summit light spork. it is thin and long, as it reaches into deeper containers
I replace mayo and sour cream with a mild plain fat free greek yogurt all the time. There's no good reason not too. The Stonyfield brand is my preferred choice because it has no trace of that weird Greek yogurt aftertaste.
Drive to Seabeck get a pizza watch the Bald Eagles
That's post nasal drip. I have it too.
I’m sorry
Fun video - thanks... I've always suspected sour cream having a some connection with yogurt.
I go to PNW every year, but Bainbridge always has a special place when my wife and I were just getting serious. We took a trip together to Seattle and I have fond memories of Bainbridge and riding mopeds around the San Juan Island 20 plus years ago! Side note we looked at properties back then and we could have bought a vacay house for dirt cheap, nowadays a cool million.
That’s a nice story to hear. Thanks for sharing it
