Good to get this refresher on August. It serves as a reminder that winter WILL be here soon enough, and that it's time to start thinking about this sort of stuff.
I appreciate your shirt, time the point informative videos. Thank you for this. I'm very new to bushcraft, but I'm fascinated by it and look forward to applying everything that I'm learning.
Dan, here in Kentucky I have also used eastern red cedar bark and had good results with it, I appreciate and enjoy your videos, thank you for doing them ! ATB from Kentucky
Love your channel and these vids...(but), although I know this one is generally demonstarting winter fire starting...I think you should also demonstrate what it's like doing these things without a big tree stump to work off of...
Great video...we don't have a lot of birch here on Vancouver Island if any, but the rest of your options we can do...One more that is a sure-fire way to start a fire is pine pitch or any other coniferous tree pitch...that stuff burns like gasoline..have a good one bud
Don’t know if I missed it but in one of your recent vids you announced a GAW for a short and canteen but I have seen or heard anything about the results
Outdoor Dauber, Better have several of these cheap things called matches today. Not the matches I grew up with. Have to have the striker pad/box , heads pop off very easily, thin stick breaks. They do make pretty good tinder.
The tips appear to be endless just like the energizer bunny, just keep going and going………..Thanks Dan…….Ed
Fatwood is great, as is Birch Bark. Thanks for the video. Trev
Great video!!! Very useful information. Another great to tinder I use here in Ohio is grapevines.

Thanks for sharing! :)
The first two words that sprang to mind were “birch” and “conifer”. Next we’re “dead cattails”. Then gasoline.

victor castle - How about it! Boy, if I only knew back then what I know now, I would have bought a box of Ohio Blue Tip matches every payday!!
