    I’m 80 years old and I laid my vinyl glue down floor myself. I love my floor and I can honestly say for never having laid this type of flooring , I’m very satisfied with the way it came out. If I were a professional there’s so many things to look for or to mention to the customer before starting. In fact I’d have a clause in the contract covering the condition of the floor underneath the carpeting or any other floor covering that can ruin your day as a installer.
    I had built my own home 20 years ago and had installed carpeting over a cement slab. After I pulled up the carpet I seen what I had forgotten. My bedroom is 20x20 and when I laid the floor I laid the cement in 10x 10 slabs. Unseen to me under the carpet was that the slabs had not settle evenly. There was a hump of a 3/8 to 1/2 inch difference between the two slabs.
    I do not have excess to anything like self leveling material so I had to remove the hump by grinding it even 😢😢. Just imagine the dust😮 but I’d due it again in order to have my new floor.❤

    They have a glue that also has a moisture barrier mixed in it.

    If you’re concerned about moisture on a slab, tite bond makes a liquid moisture barrier that you roll on the floor like paint and it seals everything up very well. Less work than trying to do subfloor on concrete

    Great video! I'm getting ready to have bamboo installed on my slab and was concerned about potentially needing a moisture barrier. I considered gluing down 1/4 inch plywood and then nailing the bamboo to it. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks

    Is the bamboo you put down click lock? the way you put them together looked click lock rather than tongue n groove. Im looking for engineered bamboo specifically and most of it is click lock, and most say it's to be done as a floating floor, which I hate. Can most click lock bamboo be glued? Nice video

    • @voylesfloorcovering8165
      @voylesfloorcovering8165  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would prefer to glue down click lock bamboo than tongue and groove.

    • @benminton6189
      @benminton6189 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. I’ve found some click lock I really like from Lumber liquidators that says install method is click lock and I asked if glue can be used and they said it’s not approved. Got samples of it and got samples of some tongue n groove and they have the exact same layer on the bottom outside part that would touch the subfloor. I don’t understand why it could not be glued. I hate floating floors. Does that make any sense to you why a click lock can’t be glued but a tongue n groove with the same outer bottom layer could be?

    Did you guys need to weigh down the bamboo until the adhesive cured? Also did you need to level the subfloor in anyway? Thanks

    • @voylesfloorcovering8165
      @voylesfloorcovering8165  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did not have to weigh it down the boards are heavy enough and you just have to put pressure on them as you install and this glue grabs instantly. This job did not require leveling thankfully

    Curious if you can just remove the molding and avoid putting in the quarter round. It looks tacky to me. depends on the owner preference. Any thoughts?

    • @voylesfloorcovering8165
      @voylesfloorcovering8165  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes we could have removed the baseboards and not used quarter round but as you mentioned customers preference was to use quarter round.

    • @zaydenmarley4374
      @zaydenmarley4374 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      the only issue with not using quarter round is if your sub floor isn't perfectly flat, which most aren't, your baseboard doesn't bend and conform to the floor as flush as you'd want them to. the baseboard will be flush to the floor on the higher spots and the lower spots in the floor will have a gap underneath the baseboard. quarter round is smaller and more flexible so as it's nailed, you can push it flush to the floor all the way around for a more finished look. shoe molding is similar to quarter round but slightly smaller so that may be preferred for some people.

    I noticed some videos want half an inch from the wall on the parameter. Do you not have to worry about that if your glueing the flooring?

    • @voylesfloorcovering8165
      @voylesfloorcovering8165  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So generally when you glue it cancels out your expansion and contraction so you don’t have to leave the full half inch BUT most manufactures still require it and if you had a defective wood and they come to inspect and if your expansion gap wasn’t correct they would blame the problem on expansion and make it your problem so I always recommend to do whatever manufactures recommend expansion wise just to be safe.

      You need an expansion gap. Just do it.

  • @mtube620

    what is advantages of gluing the plank flooring? I thought gluing would prevent thermal expansion/contraction and a hell to remove the plank down the road

    • @voylesfloorcovering8165
      @voylesfloorcovering8165  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bamboo flooring naturally has a high moisture content so proper acclimation is crucial but if you want to take away any risk of the floor expanding and contracting rapidly and causing separation of planks(if using floating floor method) then glueing or nailing is the best solution. And yes if down the road someone wanted to remove the floor it would be a horrible pain and a lot of work. But bamboo generally is made to last.

    I noticed immediately after glue down the floor they walking over and place furniture. That is possible? I saw another video with a ton of warnings as to what to do or not. Also additional part to buy such as tool moister reader for the room, floor and hardwood. To ensure all moister were good.
    Then I saw this video where is was at easy as replace old carpet , clean up and place glue and start applying floors.
    Any inputs ?

    • @voylesfloorcovering8165
      @voylesfloorcovering8165  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is possible to immediately walk on the floor and put furniture in place without moving the floor and with no glue squeezing up in the joints because of the nature of the tite bond glue. It is very thick and has a fast grab time. Some glue down floors you can’t walk on it immediately and have to tape to hold joints together and have to wait 12-24 hours to even get on it but not with these floors. We did check moisture with our readers but just didn’t put that in the video. We do tend to make things look easier on our videos lol but yes anyone could do this!

    This is by far the most hack job I have probably ever seen. Problem #1 slab should have been sanded with a grinder to remove all contaminates off the slab. Floor won’t bond properly.
    # 2 check for moisture on the slab with a calcium chloride test. #3 slab should have been checked for low spots and high spots for toleration. #4 tile transition. T molding strip? Are you serious? Flush it out (by doing the prep work) with a nice clean grout joint vs a giant Tripper molding. #5 Quarter round? I know bamboo expands and contracts twice as much as any other flooring out there because it is grass. But! If installed correctly by sanding the slab, using an epoxy moisture barrier and glueing it down with the Franklin 821 it won’t be as much of an active floor. Should have just taken off the existing base board and re installed it. Who cares if it’s more work, clearly you’re trying to get a 900/sqft glue down without adding weight to low spots installed in one day of BAMbOO. Im sorry but I am a flooring contractor and if I didn’t care so much about doing it right I guess I would have given you a thumbs up.

    • @voylesfloorcovering8165
      @voylesfloorcovering8165  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for the comment or criticism lol. I agree with you on everything you say but we are Lowes contractors and everything that we do is on a contract so.... customer specifically requested t molding due to the bamboo being thicker than the tile causing a height difference, customer did not want to remove baseboard because they had just painted and I personally like the look of quarter round with baseboard, floor was checked for lows and highs but was not shown as i am new to videoing, I do believe that sanding and grinding the concrete would’ve been a little over kill for this job.
