- Welcome back! Here Frank and I predict the score for every match of the tournament! We literally threw down our predictions in about 2 minutes, so it's more for a bit of fun but we'll see...

I'm glad you guys had fun with the spreadsheet. It's interesting when you go game by game and get different results for group stage seating vs just picking them outright. I wish I had as much faith in GB as you guys do. If you can get out of group stage you have a decent shot but I still have you 3rd in the group and not making the quarterfinals. Six games in 17 days and your bench is pretty thin with the "reserves" that were called up. There was some big talent that didn't make the squad that probably should have.
I'm sticking with Gold: USA.....Silver: Australia.....Bronze: Brazil.....4th: Netherlands.
I like Australia, but they always under-perform. I'd love to see them play up to their ability for a whole tournament! I haven't been following them all that closely since around the time Statjic lost the coaching job. What's their coaching situation now? Have they got someone who's had time to settle in and make an impact?
Come to think of it, Brazil often let themselves down, too. :/
Oh, I did watch the most recent Australia v. Sweden match. Australia was on the struggle for much of it, even though it came out a draw.
Australia and Brazil have similar issues, they both have high powered offenses but their defenses are suspect. The issue will be if they can eliminate mistakes over the 6 games. Neither team is very deep on the back line so they'll need some backups to make their mark.

Good picks! I agree with Emma's group stage predictions; going into the knockout rounds I have it finishing like Frank predicted, however: Gold - USA; Silver - Sweden; Bronze - Great Britain.
*One note though: Frank had Canada advancing to the knockout rounds, which is impossible based on his group stage predictions. His predicted group standings were: [Group E] Canada 3rd place with 2 points | [Group F] China 3rd place with 3 points | [Group G] Australia 3rd place with 3 points ....... in that scenario it would be China & Australia that would advance not Canada; the only difference to your bracket is that China (not Canada) would play USA in the quarterfinals ..... (either way you're gonna have USA win that game though haha)
Oh yeah my mistake! Oops. USA will beat them too though so it doesn't change too much.

Orlando Pride head coach Marc Skinner is reportedly getting a new job.
According to reports, Skinner is on his way to Manchester United to take over the women’s coaching gig and replace Casey Stoney. Stoney was recently named head coach of San Diego’s NWSL team.
Received a tip Orlando Pride's Marc Skinner is getting the Manchester United women's coaching job. Pride says, "at this time, we have no comment on the situation."

Sweden looked fantastic. More driven, studied, stronger, and younger than the US.

I keep seeing betting odds that have the USWNT roughly 50% likely to take the gold. That's fair--if they get knocked out by someone, it's hard to predict who, and it won't be easy. But after that it'll be interesting to see which teams emerge as contenders. Team GB are kind of flying under the radar--they definitely have the talent to go far.
Well, the USWNT was thrashed by Sweden 3-0 this morning, so maybe all our predictions need to be modified just a bit :)
Pretty much unrelevant. The tournament begins in the knockouts.
Assuming they make the knockout round at all (not 100% guaranteed), they probably just earned themselves an extra tough game against a group winner
@@davidsprenkle2641 they can get out of group stage even with a loss against Australia. This tournament is very forgiving. Things get real in the knock out phase. Sweden are not going to go down easy.

I thought these were very good predictions. But as an American I am not very confident, I feel like our age is going to ruin us, especially Rapinoe and O’hara who have been terrible recently.
We will have to see, it's going to be exciting and interesting!
I think Rapinoe has "lost a step," but, if Heath is ready to go on the right, I think Press will get most of the playing time on the left.
I don't think Rapinoe has returned to form after taking all of 2020 off. Her crosses in particular have been awful. She shouldn't be taking corners or other set pieces. Especially when Christen Press is _right there._ Probably Heath will have that duty when she's on the pitch, but in my opinion it should be Press on corners über alles! However, Pinoe remains a huge threat once she's in or near the 18-yard box, or when striking directly for goal on a free kick.
I don't see anything wrong with O'Hara.
In the World Cup, England and especially France looked intimidatingly formidable. I can only think the USA's prospects are better in this tourney. Not least because they've swapped out Jill Ellis for Vlatko Andonovski. I'm pretty sure someone paid Ellis to throw the 2016 knockout game to Sweden; there's no other explanation for the choices she made.

Having just watched the 3- 0 Sweden/US trouncing (I'm American so I can say it like it is) I think is was Becky Sauerbrunn's foot speed that did us in. Constantly Crystal Dunn would be guarding one person and another player would slide underneath. Did we ever figure out an answer for that? Sweden would get every second ball.
US Fan: We looked slow. Sweden double teamed Crystal Dunn and we never came up with an answer. I have not lost faith. It's time to get up, put on our big boy pants and slug it out.
Sweden are a great team, pick yourselves up and go again. Beat them in the final as I predict 🙂
They've been playing tomato cans for the past year so it's not a shock to see them slow when faced against real competition. The swedes always gave usa issues because usa can't boss them physically.

BTW, Sweden is a really good team! I look forward to seeing the US play them again.
The US played New Zealand and the Americans still weren’t as good as they should be. Rose Lavelle was excellent. New Zealand scored. America will have to beat the best teams first, which I think is an advantage for the older American team. How dispiriting. One nation. One team. That New Zealand score should have been 10 to 0. US has got to be better.
