@@squidwrtt5911 If you go to UH and get a strong GPA+MCAT it won't matter. If you went to UT and got a mediocre GPA+MCAT then you're at a disadvantage, and the more prestigious school won't matter. This is what I've read on multiple med school resources and physicians in competitive specialties. Prestigious schools may have more research or science related resources, plus the opportunity for letters of recommendation from respected people. But if it's going to be astronomically expensive, you may want to pass.
@@squidwrtt5911 Hey, I know this is a month late, but I'm college right now because I want to be a cardiothoracic surgeon. From my understanding and findings, it doesn't really matter where you go as long as your school is accredited. Also, your major has some weight as well I'm doing microbiology because it's the best fit for me, however, I know some people that are majoring in engineering and other majors. Med schools look at grades and Mcat scores the most some schools will weigh your science and math classes heavier than your electives and core classes. Med schools also take volunteering and previous job work also into play but it isn't something I find to stress about. I suggest working as a CNA where you live because it gives amazing clinical experience such as patient to provider contact. I hope this helps.

I know surgery may become routine after doing so many, but all the fears and hopes and future of a family lies in that one procedure, and when successful you can change a person’s life for good for forever. For me, my cousin is getting surgery to remove a cancer on his spine, and it could potentially leave him paralyzed from the waist down, but we’re holding out hope that a good surgeon can help him maintain a good quality of life. It amazes me that you spend so much time driving between all the different hospitals. I would expect it to be way more effective if the patients could all come to you for procedures, and to have online consultations for the ones that dont require a procedure.

Wow - Spine surgery is so complex and difficult. You have my highly respect. Are there set hours at all when you're a surgeon? I can imagine that there is not. My aunt had surgery on an anoyrisma in her brain. The surgery was planned for 4 hours but she was in for 10, so i can imagine that there really isn't a set schedule. Treatment will also be different because medical bills are not a thing here, everything is free in that regard as well. And of course the general way of work is vastly different due to the culture.

Hey Antonio, I'm an SCI patient. C567 unilateral facetal dislocation. I had anterior posterior spinal fusion with a cadaver bone and dog bone on the anterior aspect. My surgery was at Bangkok Hospital in Thailand as I broke my neck on vacation. I have idiopathic neuropathy bilateral upper and lower extremities. I have had four physiatrists, neurologist, gp, and my team in Thailand look at me and no one can source the reason for the neuropathy. Wonder if you want to have me on your channel. Dr., you are very busy with surgeries and working with patients which goes without saying, but would someone in your position or just surgeons in general be able to do research? For instance that first procedure where the plate was set to stabilize the patient's spine, would a surgeon be able to possibly research and make suggestions for better procedures?

Together, they saved my life, what's left of it. My Father died of malignant hyperthermia, which is hereditary, making me a high surgical risk. So I suffered for 35 yrs., in sheer agony, where mere seconds can seem to last for decades. Trust me... that kind of relentless torture wears you down... no matter how big and tough you think you are. I would have given up the launch codes in a heartbeat, for even the slightest bit of relief. *I've learned that QUANTITY of life is a curse, if you don't have the QUALITY of life to get on with it.* Survival was very hard, it didn't even make sense. Yes, you can go into academics and do surgery + research. There are some private practice doctors doing a lot of research also

Hello Dr. Webb. Great video. Is it possible if for future videos you can provide some insight to the surgery itself for future med students that are interested in orthopedic surgery? For example, a video of you performing an actual surgical procedure. I think it would also be great for others who are interested in medicine as well. Happy new year and God bless.
Hard to do that when I’m still in training for HIPPA, hospital policies but plan to explore those options when I finish up here soon
