  • Welcome to another episode of Instruments of Destruction! Today I am building a chainsaw with dozens of lasers attached! It should allow for frictionless sawing through buildings, unlike a normal chainsaw that needs to make physical contact

    About the game:
Instruments of Destruction features an advanced physics-based destruction system. You can demolish every structure in the game piece by piece. In addition, every object you see in the game world--save for small decorative plants and rocks--is part of the physics system. Each element of the world interacts with each other and together they create a physical, visceral world to play with.
    Build Your Vehicle
Build a vehicle your way, with an ever-expanding array of parts and pieces. Using an intuitive vehicle construction system that also lets you customize your vehicles' appearance and controls, you'll always have fun creating your next awesome invention.
From simple splitters to advanced joints, a variety of parts slowly unlock as you play through the game, and each unlocks countless new possibilities.
While some vehicles will perform better than others in accomplishing your objectives, it's always a bit more fun to get creative and go a little off script. Optional bonus challenges and objectives will reward more creative builders and add more replayability.

So yesterday I was playing with some workshop creations and I discovered that if you get your attachers to attach to the building metal frame, you can yoink the building out and just move it around freely (attachers sure are strong af). I'd love to see something than can pull buildings out and maybe after throw them on to other buildings. The workshop item which gave me the idea was called Grippah 3000.
PS: Please showcase Crane designs one day community have made some pretty awesome designs!

for the joints getting weak, you can reinforce them to massively increase there rigidity.
also, reinforced parts are much heavier than the heavy foots, so you can use those to add a bunch of weight without affecting the aesthetic of your creation too much.

    Improvement ideas:
1.) Encasing the chain in a mesh of beams from the outside will prevent slipping
2.) More wheels should make the load of the tons of lasers more bearable
3.) I'd suggest angle-ing the lasers slightly inwards (might take 3 rows of tracks tho) - this will make the destruction belt wider than the track itself, so you can more safely saw into the buildings like with the other designs.

    2 ideas:
1: You could use some spaced out spikes to maybe hold the track on track.
2: You could make a laser-saw by placing lasers in a way that the lasers look like a chainsaw. (Probably no moving chain due to the laser's size)

Real chainsaw blades alternate; you don't have to have two lasers on every link.
Make them zig-zag so that each link has only one, or even every two links has one and the third is blank.
Will massively reduce the weight and crank up the performance.

As you are only using the round tip and not the side of the blade, wouldnt a laser circular saw make more sense? Less epic, but you could make it spin waaaaay faster to create a disk of destruction. Another thing, actual saws have teeth that stick out a bit to the side to make room for the sawblade itself, so angling the lasers outwards just a hint (or, if you are using two rows, angle them inwards so they cross over and go out again) would massively help with collisions.

Not quite how a chainsaw actually works but it's close enough. Technically speaking the chain design isn't how a chain or tank tracks work. Normally tracks have a pair of rollers with a central guide that sits inside of a rail. If you did that then gravity wouldn't pull the chain off.
Though the chainsaw without weapons looks more like a belt sander the way it works.
