EXID have long been on my radar, I had a feeling I'd love them, and I was very much correct! Both UP & DOWN and Ah Yeah are absolute BOPS. These members are all utterly incredible, and I am SOLD on this group! My Fire reaction will be out very soon if not already, so keep an eye out for that! 😍😍

Choreo for up and down was forcibly changed due to Korean broadcasting. Which was quite a stir as the hip thrusts were quite a common move for boy bands but was censored when EXID did it. Ah Yeah was basically a statement about the issues with strict censorship and it's effects in direct response to Up and Down (the song structure, the sax riff are all similar enough to draw a parallel hahaha)

Solji the one in pink, is the one doing the crazy vocals... She's the group's vocal coach.

You were right about the MV for "Ah Yeah" being a bit of a statement regarding censoring.
With their previous release, they had to change their dance one some of the music shows because the movements were considered too risque. They felt like this was a double standard because more popular groups and boy groups didn't have the same treatment - in particular, boy groups could get away with more vulgar dance moves than what they did.
So, during the teaser phase of "Ah Yeah," they basically told the censors that "we censored our own MV already." But, if you notice, at the point in the video where the censoring disappears and the cartoon puppies and smiley faces that were being censored get shown, there is a number up in the corner that counts down from, I think, 19 to 12. This is an "age rating" for the video - with the "censoring" it was a 19+ MV, but once you see what was censored, it was really only rating 12+, and the demeanor of the members changes to be more cutesy and they stick their tongues out in a playful way, like "ha ha, we fooled you." The statement then being that the censors can often be a bit heavy-handed with what they censor, and that they often censor things that don't really need it - for example, their dance for Up and Down, which their dance in Ah Yeah was made to be similar to.
As to the lyrics of "Ah Yeah," it is more along the lines of telling men to "stop asking creepy questions ('where do you live? do you live alone?') and just be direct about your feelings. It may not work out, but it'll work out a lot better than being a creep."

oh lawd, ah yeah was the ultimate CLAPBACK to the korean media outlets that slandered the hell out of EXID when their fame started skyrocketing due to hani's viral fancam. Every music live stage channel wanted to ban Up&Down's hip thrust choreography and they were getting many hate due to media news channels painting EXID's choreo as "disgusting" for no reason. Eventually, EXID got fed up and they made their statement through ah yeah's mv and lyrics. If you read the song's lyrics it basically slams pervert people that keep asking women "where do you live?" "do you live alone?" and such invasive questions even when women have spoken their discomfort about it and as for the mv, it literally is a callout to everyone that wanted to "blur" what they were doing even if it's not sexual (like what happened when they were getting hated for moving their hips up and down)

From the Up & Down video, the members left to right are Solji - leader and main vocalist (pink top), LE - main rapper and lead dancer (purple top), Jeonghwa - main dancer, lead rapper, sub vocalist, visual and maknae (white top), Hyerin - lead vocalist (green top) and Hani - lead vocalist, lead dancer, visual and face of the group (pink top).

Definitely check out more, I Love You, L.I.E., Hot Pink, Every Night (criminally underrated)…and of course their singles released when Solji was sick; DDD (huge favorite) Lady, Night Rather Than Day. Lyric videos do help not only with the songs but in the earlier videos especially directors had this thing of making the girls mime parts that weren’t theirs (Up & Down is the worst.) somebody basically covered Ah Yeah…the song is the double standards of men and women, that’s why the back and forth between Hani/LE. The video is them calling out not only censorship as a whole, but kind of an F.U. to those who said where too sexy and had no talent when male idols do/show way more and get praised for it.

I'm no expert on EXID but they're a group you have to keep your eye on. I consider them the jack in the box of girl groups. It seems like every new song is a bit of a shock and they're generally bizarre and unsettling in one way or another.
Up & Down was released as a single first. It's a legendary song because it didn't do well on the charts until the viral fancam of Hani sent the song to #1 five months after it was released, prompting EXID to re-promote the song on tv music shows where it earned them their first win. Up & Down was then included on the EP that featured Ah Yeah as the title track.
The Ah Yeah MV will make more sense when you watch a lyric video. There's lots going on - female empowerment, male lameness and miscommunication, and commentary on how women are judged and censored are the things that stand out for me besides the members' charisma, vocals, and quirky and satirical sense of humor.
    A couple of recommendations:
I Love You. The message seems to be I love you so much you make me barf. lol
Luna X Hani X Solar - Honey Bee. A collab between members of f(X), EXID and Mamamoo that came out about 5 years ago. I don't think I need to tell you this is a must see MV. 😏

@@liyoung03 Thanks. I'm actually a moomoo but back when I first checked out kpop in 2016 (and hated what I heard) yt recommended some crack vids of Hani, EXID and "the gayest girl group" Mamamoo. Hadn't heard of either group but curiosity opened up a whole new world for me. Tho I prefer Mamamoo's music EXID has always had a special place in my heart because they helped save kpop from the garbage bin. Also amused that Solar often starts off a song by yelling LEGGO! 😄

@@SumanDa-bk1fh I'll try but I'm not sure what to explain about it. I doubt you need me to explain that leggo means let's go. During MMM concerts they often chat with moomoos between songs and when they're ready to start the next song Solar often cues the band by yelling Leggo!

YESSS!!! Finally! One of my all time favorite groups. Yeah, Up & Down was the song that finally got them noticed, particulary due to a famous fancam of Hani which led to her popularity as a variety queen. The long gap afterward was probably because they were likely going to disband after Up & Down promotions because, like their previous releases, it didn't initially do well. Then the famous fancam of Hani dropped online and, BOOM, a surge in popularity well after the promotions for the song were completed. While never really becoming one of the biggest groups, they did become quite popular especially on variety shows and became a staple in the industry.
If you ever do reactions to more of their songs, just know that songs such as Night Rather than Day, DDD, and Lady will not have leader and main vocalist, Solji. She went on hiatus for a couple of years due to hyperthyroidism.

Their videos DDD and I Love You are also good tracks worth a view. You are absolutely correct and I say this often as well. So many artist paved the way for the great artist we get now. They had to knock down many doors. Especially in the beginning because Kpop was ruled by boy groups. I've always enjoyed the female groups more because I know how much harder they have to work. My first Kpop group was Wonder Girls. They were the first Korean artists to enter billboards top 100. I'm not sure if you've gave them a listen yet.

Thanks for the reaction to EXID, this is an other KPop group I follow. I find them to be a fun group to watch and yes the whole group is very easy on the eye, but Jeonghwa would be my bias, and Solji would be my wrecker. Jeonghwa is more the visual person in the group, although she has a good singing voice and can dance well. Solji is the vocalist who is blowing the roof off things vocally. LE is a very good rapper, as well as she has written some of their songs. A lot of people like Hani, she's the reason they gained popularity and grew in the market to where they are now. She is a very good dancer and has good vocals as well. Hyerin is also very talented vocally, she can keep right up with the best of them. There was a time when Solji wasn't preforming and she was covering her vocals, so that should say something for her. Anyway, glad you found this group it's another one of my favorites.
I say leave the dancing to the girls and leave your pant on, no short shorts, I like them much better on the girls!!!🤣
