This song was su😊ng at many weddings!!!! Larry Graham played with Sly And The Family Stone, before starting his own band, Graham Central Station!! Thank for your appreciation of the many songs from my era😊!
Crazy story. I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. Somewhere around 1978 79 or 80 (I was young so I get the dates mixed up. 4th or 5th grade) he came to our Kingdom Hall in Charlotte North Carolina. He met my father and came to have dinner at our house. Great memories.
@@5150pb nice. Did you know he studied with Prince and that's how Prince became a Jehovah's Witness? I had the pleasure of meeting Prince. Do you ever think about getting back into it?
One bit to add to Larry Graham. He and Prince were very good friends. During the 1980’s up to mid 1990’s Prince never did interviews. Larry convinced him to come out of his shell to let the world know about him. Larry also toured and at times was an opening act for Prince.
"Wayans brothers daddy." 😂😂 What will really get you is that Larry Graham is actually the rapper Drake uncle. Dennis Graham, Larry's brother is Drakes father.
Ashley, 4 quick facts about Larry Graham: [1) He's primarily known for Funk starting with playing bass guitar for Sly & The Family Stone, then his band "Graham Central Station".......2) He invented a "thumpin & pluckin" bass technique that books are written on and it's studied worldwide since 1969.......3) "One In A Million" was later as a solo artist in a departure from the Funk to become his biggest song ever!........4) This song has two meanings: it's a love ballad for a romantic relationship, but originally it was written to "God" because Larry is a devout Jehovah's Witness........5) Prince grew up on Larry's music and some years before he died, Prince & Larry became good friends to where Larry shared his faith with Prince and Prince had Larry as his bass player for years up until his death........6) Larry is Drake's "Uncle" (he & Drake's father are brothers)]. Ok, ok! I gave you two extra facts! lol
WoW! now "Wayans Brothers Daddy"🤔😏 never cross my mind until now, And now every time I see this LP cover or Larry Graham, I gonna think about "Wayans Brothers Daddy"😂
Larry Graham really threw me a 'curve ball' with this soulful ballad. I had been used to listening to powerful Funk from Graham Central Station. The dichotomy between "One In A Million" and "Entrow" (1976) is truly amazing. I had not known that Larry Graham could sing a soulful/love song like "One In A Million", Ashley. And I appreciate being able to experience the vast range of vocals Larry Graham is capable of.
This song was one of my favorite ballads, from the 80's! I sang it every time, that I heard it. It was a different from Larry's 1970's Graham Central Station funk era.
🧡 Can I tell you that this song was sung at every single talent show back in the day! I mean every single talent show! I was in elementary school and they were singing this! 😂😂 BTW, that was HOT CROS BUNS! The first song I learned to play on the Clarinet! Sheesh! 😂😂
This song will NEVER get old for me, it was our class motto Lucy C. Laney Comprehensive High School Class of 81, Augusta, GA. Our marching band played this, they played it at our graduation, and we use it in all our reunion events, T-shirts, hats etc. Wildcats for LIFE. Thanks for reacting to a beautiful song.
My Grandad Died in his 2 bedroom home THIS Song Album i was playing on end of 11th Grade, last day of school BTW, GA. at my LLegal Guardian My Old Grandad Arthur's home in Atlanta, thus having to return to Oakland snd graduate the following year June 1981 as a Eternal Wildcat and not a Bulldog. Then returning back to ATL to Morehouse, Georgia. This Song 😭🙏🏽
Crossover viral hit was heard everywhere: jr. high music performances, school dances and even cheeseball, slowed-down versions at wedding receptions. This song is so universal you'll even occasionally hear a tired, slow, instrumental-only elevator 'muzak' version. Song went global soon after release. Your reaction instincts & feelings were right on.
A few years ago, I was stationed with Larry Graham’s first cousin in the Army. He was his twin!!!!!! He also was in charge of the dining facility at Fort Eustis Virginia. My Mother and Father lived an hour away from the Post. Everytine they came to visit, my mom would always say”that’s a good looking man” lol of course my dad was never around😂😂😂😂
