    I was utterly petrified of snakes my whole life. I literally live in the middle of nowhere, on the corner of lame and boring. Northwestern, Ontario, Canada and all we have is garter snakes 🐍but still would scream bloody murder when seeing one. Even pictures, but then I started watching channels like yours. Everything started to change. Went from peeking at videos, to one eyed watching to now actually enjoying your videos, your channel. Thank you. 😊 I can't say I still wouldn't freak out seeing them in real life, but I am learning and growing. You're amazing and do incredible things for reptiles. Keep up the amazing work!!!

    It's good that you show this and share it with others. Then we know that it could be an issue with that combo. But, hopefully next year it will prove out not to be fatal and you will hit that crypton genetic stripe and will be healthy. Love the videos you guys make and Thanks for all you do. 🙂

    I don't know if this would make any sense. I've seen you talk about inbreeding, breeding a parent to its children to prove something out. I know this is a bit of an older video, but do you think you'd ever make a video explaining kinks in the snakes, how inbreeding works for snakes, other genetic mutations, stuff like that? That's stuff I don't really understand about snakes and I want to learn more, because I want my own snake. Like can the kinking show up later in life, stuff like that.

    Seems that if two of the animals with kinking and issues were Cryptic and only possibly het for G-stripe that if it was a problem with het cryptic and het g stripe that the mom would have similar problems if she proved both het g-stripe and het cryptic? Unless its a specific lineage problem and the male is het for a different line of G-stripe, and thats the line with the issue once combined with Cryptic or het cryptic? There could be more to it, and maybe it only affects a certain percentage of the cryptic to g stripe animals, but I would venture to say its just an issue with the clutch and not necessarily crossing genetics, and probably that its just a coincidence that the het cryptic animals are the ones that have issues in this specific clutch. Definitely a great discussion to have though. But I would bet you don’t get the same issues the next time around.

    • @limitlessreptiles8494

  • @kamar1171
    @kamar1171 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI there is no such thing as "100% het" and "50% het". Heterozygous means having one copy of a gene. I am assuming when you say "100% het" you mean two copies of a gene? When an animal has two copies of a gene it's called HOMOZYGOUS....NOT "100% HETEROZYGOUS"....this just doesn't exist....this term is an oxymoron. Any animal, if it has one copy of a gene is heterozygous for that gene. And if it had two copies of a gene it is homozygous for that gene. Homozygous means it will always pass one copy of the gene on to it's offspring. Snake breeders, who go around spouting info about genes, should go take a course in basic genetics. Also, any animal can't have a 66% chance of having any gene. They can only have 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% or 0% for EACH ANIMAL. The way snake breeders do chance percentages is, to be frank, ignorant. The chance for certain colors is per individual offspring, NOT divide the percentages by how many ever there is in a clutch/litter. Extremely incorrect understanding of how genetics work and are (or can be) passed on. Genetic inheritance is the same across all animals....so there's no special "solution" for snakes. I have enjoyed watching your videos, to see the beautiful animals, but because of the incorrect information on how genes work, are passed on and the incorrect terminology prevents me from watching them.

    • @samanthaperez4277

      So if 1 parent is 25% n the other is 100% the offspring aren't 66% maybe you need to give up on generics and go back to basic math dear? Anyways Billy awesome video as always keep um coming!!

    • @ivyrose779
      @ivyrose779 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not into snakes but I enjoy watching these videos for some reason and have always wondered about that the xx% het thing. Are they saying that that’s the chance that particular animal will be het for that gene? For example, if you breed a homozygous to a heterozygous, would you say the babies are 50% get because the babies have about a 50% chance of being het? And, if that’s correct, do they do it this way because genetic testing isn’t practical?

    • @ivyrose779
      @ivyrose779 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, if my previous comment is correct, I would guess that numbers like 66 come from estimating the chances of the genotype of an offspring who was produced from parents with unknown genotypes. So, kind of like a probability of a probability? I don’t know; I’m kinda confused on that one.
