you know me, i switch island themes super often and honestly, if it feels right, it's the right thing to do. stressing yourself out is not the way to go (which is something that i always need to remind myself of too ). i'm suuuper excited to see the new, and improved, version of calathea

Glad you decided to change things up! I understand the feeling of being stuck and wanting to quit because nothing ever looks right. My first island is still not finished. I end up doing certain areas multiple times because of my OCD! I think this is such a good theme for you! You will find your groove and it will look great. Can’t wait to see the process unfold!

I started an island with a very similar idea in mind and it's completely stunted my creativity too, the weight of 'forever' is a lot when you're just trying to start out but you've given me hope that I can work past it. Thank youuu 💞

Actually good question, I don’t really know yet 🥺 I might keep most of the current ones and just kind of exchange them whenever I want to this time around 🤔
thank you for being so open and honest with us. might sounds bad but its mice to see people online and on youtube struggle, because from my time playing acnh ive realized people tend to ignore the negative stuff and dont really talk about it. i think the new concept of not calling it forever takes off sooo much pressure off of you! looking forward to this journey, love you!
As someone who has had the same one island since launch and no plans to reset so technically a 'forever island' I've changed my theme over and over again, done multiple themes on one island, even at one point had no theme. It's okay to change your mind and it's completely normal to get in that state of feeling like what do I do next. The important thing is not to stress or put too much pressure on yourself! It's all part of the process, half the experience for me is tearing things down or thinking how can I improve this space, or deciding overnight that I want a completely different theme and completely flattening/redecorating from the ground up. Botanical island sounds like an amazing theme btw.
This is so true for me. Every time i’ve started a forever island it’s gone nowhere. I get to three stars and then I’m paralyzed. I need a theme to be inspired to go in everyday, even if I’m not decorating every day i need that specific goal. But them by the time i finish it my brain is itching to work on something knew and i want to restart so i can keep the da. Good luck, love the new theme!
I've been working on my most recent island for a while now, and my original theme was kind of a mix of springcore and fairycore, as I had previously done a lot of cottagecore and springcore type islands and wanted to branch out (if only a little). I then proceeded to burn out quite quickly after decorating about a 75% of the island. Recently, I've picked the game back up with your let's play in the background (i refuse to have only one stimulant at a time lol) and I've also realized that I'm not happy with the majority of my island. I worked on building a gyroid forest that transitioned into a more forestcore area for my museum that incorporated much more cedar trees. I for some reason made a rule that I'm not using cedar trees on my island (don't know why I did that tbh) and since I don't really like bamboo trees I was restricted to hardwood only. After making that museum build, I realized that I was really stifling myself with the fairycore-esque island because I just wasn't excited to decorate in that theme. So, long story short, I am currently going to redecorate the majority of my island because I lowkey hate it and my decorating skills have improved so much lol. I'm really excited to see where these changes take us!
I can rarely keep an island theme ! And struggle like this I realised that I like to more plants and landscape with a lot of cute realistic items at the moment I started a jungle island and I am really enjoying it ! ❤

The nice thing about animal crossing is that you’re never really stuck with anything, and the process you’ve had already with this island is proof of that! In my mind the purpose of a forever island for those of you who don’t play that way by default is partly to give you more options not less. Because you’ve already unlocked everything, found lots of items, and completed hhp. There’s no barriers before you set aside a place to try something new! Except maybe flattening. Always in progress or something like that is a really nice way of framing it. Personally I like to think of it as a home island :)
I am brand new and pretty committed to what im trying but worried I may not like what I create and will have to start over. Probably will happen, since it's my very first island! This is a great reminder that its okay to start over and that can be more fun!
I was just getting more and more shocked throughout the video, since the island (despite you being unhappy with it) always looked so pretty! You're definitely a pro at this game! Although I really loved those theme ideas you had at first, I'm looking forward to the new one. Haven't seen that one too much, I'm excited how that will work out.
Funnily, I think I will take some inspiration from your failed attempts, since most of them were really close to the themes I had in mind for my island and I do struggle a lot with terraforming...

Can't wait to see this. I love botanical island. I've still never finished an island because I'll get fixacted on a theme and then I lose interest. Even normcore. I've thought maybe I should find an island layout I love, pick a name that will fit any theme really and just concentrate on filling my museum.

I feel this. I tried to start a forever island but the term “forever” stressed me out so much that I never made much progress. I’m still trying to wrap my head around spending a ton of time on an island and being okay deleting it. 😮

I can totally get needing a theme. I still have my island from when the game first came out--and I've never really gotten to actually decorating it. (I've tried, but my biggest attempt was before Yachts were in the game, and those were very important for what I wanted to do haha. At-release it felt like what I wanted wasn't intended by the game .w.)
I still have the same theme idea--wanting an oceanic island with a fishing village, fish market stalls, a boat house, a fish paddy farm, an area where you can walk "down" into the ocean and there's a bunch of undersea and reef decorations . . . etc that kind of thing, but most of my fun has come from writing down all my ideas on paper and not actually succeeding in implementing them in the actual game ^^;
I guess it sounds kind of weird to say "I relate" right before describing how much I failed XDD but like if I didn't have a theme I have no idea how I would even remotely come up with ideas! I'd be way too paranoid to build anything cause then what if something else I need to make needs to be in the spot I put something already @-@

Is there an IRL passion or hobby you could use to work a theme around it? Maybe it still will be your forever island, but you just need to theme it more and take a different approach? 🥰
@@sparksby I keep thinking I want something elegant but grungy. I know that doesn’t make sense. So it is hard to find inspo for what I’m looking for, and never mind designs. I will keep searching Pinterest and see what I can come up with.
I've only ever had one island. Since day 1 i've played on the same island. I've flattened it 2 times in total over the past 4 years of Animal Crossing and i'm on my 3rd rebuild. This time i'm doing things VEEERY differently. I'm not looking at any reference AT ALL.
I feel that is what destroyed me in build 1 & 2. I copied some things from pintrest & google and looked at sooooo many island tours. It just made me feel like shit over my own island. So instead i decided "Fuck it, i'm just gonna go with the flow, if i don't like something i can AAALWAYS change it!"
So right now, about 1000 hours into the game, i'm more happy about my island (in an unfinished state) than i've been for the last 900 hours..
I feel like i'm where i was when i started the game for the first time and was able to express my own creativity.

I feel like inspiration can be such a fine line... It can be great to see how others play the game and get ideas through it, but so quickly does it turn into comparing our islands to that and we're unhappy. I'm glad you were able to distance yourself from that! 😊
Honestly had the same problem over and over again. Until I decided I would simply do an "all and everything" island, where I just design different areas in complete different themes, so I can use everything in different areas.
I actively shun themes for islands. I want it to feel as close to the GameCube version as possible. That didn't have a theme, and neither does my island.
