The power creep over the years within this game is intense. I also likely didn’t fully understand the implications of the assassin’s ability. What a cool card, though.
Probably they do and that's the whole point. Rush to buy cards as soon as possible so you have a 1 week window where you can have an advantage over anyone else.

So... in the case of the Theros Beyond Death leak that someone bought at Walgreens, I would assume in a situation like that, the cards would be legal in that case, 2 or 3 months before release? If the official policy is "Legal when you get the cards"

I am convinced the only reason we don;t have even more product releases is the printers can't get the orders/sets printed any faster. I would be real money wotc has the next 10 sets already done and have them on standby for as soon as the printer can take the next one. HASBRO has been telling wotc they WILL double sales year over year for three years(maybe two?) now, i think starting with the year Dominaria came out. The hype train is gone, so they are trying to do it by sheer muscle(sales) now. When that fails the jig will be up, people will be fired, stock prices will plummet, and HASBRO will probably dump the IP to the highest bidder.

The problem is the people Hasbro has brought in to positions that make decisions. Most of their upper management is people from companies like Microsoft and Blizzard, who only have a background in video games. Then, add in that Hasbro bought DnD Beyond for $148 million, as well as the Power Rangers IP for $522 million, and it becomes obvious that Magic is very unhealthy from a business perspective right now -- and especially when Richard Garfield himself calls out WotC for what they're doing, during Magic: 30th Anniversary in Las Vegas. Even he said that WotC is doing things that are unhealthy for the game -- hence why paper Magic players are picking up Flesh and Blood, rather than staying with Magic. At this point, the announcement of a "Store Championship" being any format but Standard is kind of a non-starter, because I don't know of anyone still playing any kind of tournament-legal format. Everybody I know has gone to playing Commander, simply because it is a format that, despite the deck size, is still a format that is welcoming to new players. Most other formats have priced new players out of the game.
Tbh buying stuff on presale is a gamble; you can get bent over a table or you can get a good bargain. Mostly the former, sometimes the latter..... I regret buying Arlinn Kord (foil) on presale for like 30 bucks when she cratered a week after release, on the other end of the spectrum though I bought a foil Ancient Brass Dragon (the black one, cba to look up the name) for 7 bucks when it spiked to 30 after release so that was neat. Guess that balanced out in the end. XD Also Merry Christmas Des!
Honestly they're in for a rude awakening because they don't realize how little product Commander players buy. at most we buy a few singles here and there. The only reason I buy one pack every couple of weeks is because when I go to play at my F&M in order to play in the commander tournament you have to buy a booster pack
I'm going to love October when you can use Prerelease cards in Standard one week before the old cards rotate out. Either that or cards rotate at the prerelease so people who can't legally get cards because they didn't attend a prerelease have their decks rotated. They really didn't think this through.
Another shit change what a surprise. Just for contrast, in pokemon, the cards are only legal a few weeks *after release*, to give people ample time to get a hold of the cards that they need.
So imagine people who get spoiler cards can just go to a tournament and say I wasn't spoiling these cards I was playing them because once you have them there legal am I right 👍
I would not want to try to play tabletop magic with today's expansions. WotC wonders why everyone plays either "Dead by Turn 4" aggro decks or "Locked down by turn 4" control decks? It's because mid game decks are so ridiculously full of infinite recursion that NOONE wants to see the game get past turn 5!
I wish WotC would just take a vacation from their own product. Just leave it alone for awhile. Everything they do sucks. It’s like finishing the Mona Lisa and right after Leonardo busts out the finger paints to make “minor” adjustments.
So glad I got out of magic altogether around a year ago. Been playing since 1995, last two years less and less paper wise, tried arena for about 8 months, to many issues. I think I'll wait for be me ccg called super explosive dinosaur boom boom. Just gotta wait for it to get thought of, designed, play tested, then hit the market. Anyone got any ideas?? I don't think this is that big of a deal. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a prerelease at all, but whatever. I think most people will just do the obvious thing and sit out that week of overlap. Let the people who spent an obscene amount of money to have an age over their competitors for a whopping one week play against each other on an even playing field.

This may have just been something I seen somewhere but in EDH you can play and build with cards as soon as you get them.
EDH is usually less competitive and you only need 1 copy out of 100 cards, instead of a playset put of 60
