  • This store looks quite small on the outside, but it has a three-floor ThyssenKrupp! It's very well maintained as is the Penneys lift tradition but the best bit has got to be the epic motor!
This is located directly beside the Eason with the seven-storey 2000 VF, video of that hopefully coming soon as well.

Very nice lift, and it sounds like it goes at a decent speed too. Love the "travel up/down" announcements! I wanna find one now! :D

Thanks, yeah it is an epic one. Hope you find one soon, sadly I can't think of any convenient ones right now but hopefully some day one will reveal itself to ya.

This was installed when they renovated the whole shop between late 2015 and early 2016 (I think it was reopened in March that year). Before this, there used to be a 1970s Otis lift when the store was a British Home Stores (or BHS), I think the only one in the Republic of Ireland. It closed in the late 1980s. Then when Penneys opened there around 1992, they modernised the Otis lift by Pickerings. Penneys must have had a lift maintenance contract with Pickerings in the 90s because any lift in a Penneys store at that time was a Pickerings (Mary St Dublin, Cork, I think Limerick, etc). Now, I think apart from O’Connell St, Ballina and Blanchardstown which all have TK lifts, Kone is the dominant brand of lift.

Ah right, thanks for the info. Do you know if the OTIS was hydro or traction?

@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial I was never in it sadly but nathanandrews100 was in it back 2014 and he confirms it’s a traction lift (I presume a two speed lift). I seen it back in 2008 when the store was still stuck in the 1990s. I think there was only stairs down to the basement where I think the shoe department was. I think there was escalators to the first floor though. It’s over 15 years ago now, so it’s hard to remember correctly. I do remember the lift despite not getting to ride (at the time, I was lucky to get into 4 or 5 lifts a year, because I wasn’t really allowed to go in lifts, plus I was afraid of lifts at the time)
