Another great video Matt, the railways are fine, it's the expectation of people travelling by train nowadays that has changed, I commuted to London for 33 year's and the railway always got you home. It might of been late, but I got you there. The staff do a fantastic job with the resources that they have available, but the British way is to moan about anything and everything! From the weather to the train's 😂😂
Fair play mate, you’ve come a long way from Inverness 😁 Yeah I think I’d probably miss all that too although we don’t really have trains around my area. At the end of the day it’s still the country I was born in, and regardless of the issues that are happening here (and not just here but in other European countries too) I’d always have a bit of a soft spot for it regardless of that
Hi Matt, I’ve lived in Germany, Spain (Catalunya) and France. I’m married to a Frenchman so I see life here in the UK through his eyes also. When I lived in Catalunya and France I didn’t really miss that much. Maybe it’s because I am from the isle of wight, so life is a little different here. My favourite country is Spain, I love their food and I like to go for coffee in a bar, here on the island all there is garden centres full of retired people. I’m not sure that battered fish is a british invention, I think it comes from the Spain and Portugal and the idea was brought by back to the UK by sailors. I love it though. I love steak pies. Some humour translates but some is lost in translation. When I lived in Spain I missed old English pubs, those dark, old country pubs and seeing cricket played on village greens, oh and cream teas. I think there is nothing like your own country but it’s good to live and experience other countries and cultures.
Hi Caroline, on my brief visit to the Isle of Wight I found it quite like Olde England, like how the mainland used to be. I agree about Spain, I lived there for a couple of years and loved it. Cafe con leche and a croissant in a little plaza in the morning to start the day, love it. I heard the jews brought fish n chips as we know it over to the UK! Ahh garden centres, been dragged around a few of them before 😂
You got it right about the British humour, it's the only thing that gets us through living on this miserable island with it's lousy weather. The trains are okay if you enjoy a lengthy bus ride [rail replacement bus service], and the pubs are closing down at an alarming rate. Three in my local area of Norfolk this year. Keep up the great videos, everything that we've been told about Mexico, and Central America doesn't seem to be true.
Absolutely, gallows humour! Rail replacement 😅 I remember being late for work once because they put replacement buses on and the driver got lost! Then a few of us had to help him reverse down a country lane! Farcical! It's a real shame about the pubs, I think apart from the chain pubs there won't be any left in 30-40 years time
Oh wow! What!? Pubs are closing down?? My parents were publicans and I have very fond memories of working under-age in the bar 😊 which doubled up as my social life. I know that one of the pubs we had has been closed for years but remains vacant and protected as it’s listed. 😕
Agree with all of this, the amount of times I've said something sarcastic whilst abroad to only be met with stony silence 🙃 As trash as the UK public transport network is, the one good thing is that you're able to get to most places in the UK just on public transport alone which sadly isn't the case in most countries around the world.
Yep you really do have to adjust your jokes when out of the country 😅 exactly, and generally it's easy to figure out what goes where and there are actual timetables (although the trains are only on time when you're running late!)
Hi mate, I'm the guy who was right in guessing you were Saggitarian! Main features: love of freedom above all / often very blokey guys / sport crazy / optimistic and cheerful / travel, travel and more travel / often a bit jack blunt... they just blurt stuff out! love 'em. We come from the same neck of the woods.... about trains mate... how do you fancy coming back for a trek on CTC S/End Fenchurch St? or Liverpool street to S/End? or Gilligham to Stratford? Ugly bastard scenery Matt. Yuk! And my beautiful walk down a tropical beach? from Brentwood mate the best I ever get is a day trip to Markgate. WTF!
Hahaha well I've done Woolwich to Tilbury and that was ummm...interesting! But I definitely will be making videos in the UK again in the future, just not sure when yet! Definitely not during winter though! And yep, us Saggy Arses are apparently like this!
Mate this is so crazy! Literally I've enjoyed all the points that you mentioned today! I'm Mexican living in London, Fulham supporter. I'm watching the video on my way back to London as I went to Anfield (2-2) had a steak pie and a beer next to the stadium, then we head to a nice pub next to the station. Then as the previous train got canceled (breaking news) we needed to squeeze in like sardines into the train, and the jokes of the drunk lads (both teams) inside were so funny 😂, train finally get on moving and everyone shouts yeeeeeeiiii and laughed haha. God bless the UK and it's people, by far the best humor in the world, even the current state in which the country is going, these cultural things makes it so amazing. Love your content mte keep it coming!

Hi Matt, I'm looking forward to hearing the five things you miss most 🤗 Oh yes, love the football and the culture that goes with it. Not so many are interested over here but our husbands love the sport (and sports in general!). Oh my, definitely the banter. The answer is "yes!" Many times over here in the U S of A! 😂 There's nothing like a good old British pub. Our American friends are amazed at how good our British food is. We really miss a good curry and proper fish and chips from a chippy over here. I will never moan about the trains in the UK again! The trains where we live are non-existent. We miss all of these plus, of course, family and friends. We also miss the history and quaintness of the towns and villages. Great video! 👍❤
Spot in Matt. One you missed out was the glorious weather 😂. I'm sure that will feature on your next video. Beautiful weather there, that's for certain. Nice to see you wearing a vest. No man should leave home without his vest. Thanks for sharing Matt.

I missed the Italian railway system too while overseas...despite its cancellations, strikes, delays and the like: at least it's better than almost no rail network at all
Spot on Matteo. My grandmother used to cook her eels to jelly them, something I found repulsive. Like you I am a ferroequinologist. Here in NL train fares are very expensive and will rise 6% next year. This makes long distance travel out of reach for a lot of people. As for neighbouring Germany, the passenger has to balance a broken national network that will cost €30 billion to fix by 2030 and a monthly Deutschlandticket for ,€58 (currently €49) allowing travel throughout the entire country for one month on all public transport except for ICE and IC trains. If you're prepared to suffer delays and cancellations it's a good offer. Stay safe Matt. Looking forward to your next video.
Ferroequinologist! Great word! I can't believe I've never heard that before! Yuck, even the jelly in a pork pie makes me feel ill. I didn't realise NL was that expensive, but I'm not surprised! I remember paying quite an amount to travel from Amsterdam to Brussels before. I heard that about Germany! I think Portugal are doing something similar. Almost sounds too good to be true! I used to get free, limited travel around Europe working for the railway, sadly I didn't use it enough. Maybe I'll look into one of these Deutschlandtickets
Sounds like Christmas homesickness! 🎄😍 Happy Christmas, wherever you’ll be celebrating from! I miss the UK whenever I travel abroad for holidays, but it's mostly the brick houses, forever green fields and grey sky, pretty much what english people like to complain about everyday.
Haha when you see the follow-up video tomorrow you'll know it's not homesickness 😅 while I miss these small things, I wouldn't want to be back in the cold, dark and grey, no thank you 😂
Well! 😂 This was a wake-up call! Lived in the UK for around 35 years, but I wasn’t born and bred there, so……… the question is, Would I miss it? 🤣🤣 One day I’ll find that out! I’d miss the cosmopolitan vibes in London! Pubs, like you say! British pubs are unbeatable!

Haha yeah usually in a market somewhere, I bet you heard it in Morocco! I heard it in Turkey more than once and in Thailand too I think 😅 proper curry is 10/10 every time!
Hi Matt, yeah the chippy and the pubs are the things I miss mostly when I’m away from the Uk. Even though the country has lost some of its charm and seems to be going in a negative direction it’s still the best country in the world in my opinion mate. I’ve been to more than 80 countries and always appreciated good old Blighty when I return. If the weather was a tad better it would be paradise hey 🤔🤣 Just noticed you’ve gone over 8K subs as well. Keep up the great vlogging Matt. Take care ATB for Christmas and the new year. 👍🖖🍺
Some people even think British dry and sarcastic humour is arrogant and offensive with banter, puns/play-on-words, absurdity etc., but you must read between the lines if you want to understand it, you know the gist.
Nice vlog Matt, like the story style! Apart from family & friends, don't think I'd miss anything when I eventually move abroad! UK has a good Education system, health service & job opportunities & so do many other countries in my opinion😀 !
So I think it's time to do what many Brits do when they go abroad 🤔............ Open a sports bar 😂in your case Rubio😂 at a busy Train station. I miss only the accent as the American accent grinds my gears. Congratulations on all the new subscriptions 🎉 SUBSCRIBE! 👍🔔
I'd actually love a sports bar, that way I could watch English football and not Spanish football like they have in all the bars here 😅 I think there are some old train stations that could be renovated. As for American accents, well that depends. We also have some terrible ones (Birmingham, I'm looking at you)
haha I live near Shepards Well, not too far from Kearsney station in fact which is the station after. So many small villages in the UK are connected by train. You sound like you're from Bexley area?
Your homesick today? I miss pork pies , pubs, Leeds United and fish and chips. In Mexico the humour is the same as England although a little bit more Chubby Brown style here so I’m ok for humour.
Ohh yeah Mexican humour is great, they love a good double meaning (albur)! Mmm I'll let you decide tomorrow after my follow-up video if you think I'm homesick 😂 I could go for a pork pie right now! Well, at least you're not exactly missing Leeds' glory years
I'm totally with you Matt about the dry, sarcastic and witty sense of humour. I went travelling across the African continent for 6 months and really missed it; particularly the more time I spent with north Americans, they just do not get sarcasm at all! Also I missed the dampness, the mornings in spring and autumn when you breathe in that misty air.
As far as British humor goes, I remember as a kid trying to secretly watch Benny Hill without the adults catching us. Or as you call it humour. That’s my favorite British thing on your list. 👍37
Worked overseas for over 10 years in a different culture. Yep, missed the chippy and greasy breakfasts, bacon eggs etc. But it's still all here. You'll have to pop back for a month and it'll cure you. I'm currently applying for jobs overseas again because as much as i love the UK, I also love being out there. You can have both😃
Yes I miss a few things but the town where I grew up is no longer the same. Britain is not the same. I’ve just got fond memories now and I’m happy with that.
Hello my friend. I watch your videos every time, and they are great. Maybe you can create 3-4 other channels with different content. You can create more income like that for your travels. I am sure that you will get a large public with these new channels too.
Thanks buddy, I have one other which is just for silent walks but mainly concentrate on this one, it is still small at under 8k and growing. One day I'd like to see a million subscribers 😅
A million subscribers Matt and it won’t be you responding to us anymore!!! You’ll have a dedicated Social Media Manager who’ll take care of all that while you’re out there filming content. Keep doing what you’re doing, I think they say the first 10-20,000 takes the longest then it just takes off!!! 😊
This is the "most British" I've heard you in your videos haha. I get it about British food, though, everyone loves the food from their homeland, regardless what everyone else thinks of it.
@@no_soy_rubio Fun fact, Tim Horton's is the worst coffee ever! For some people, they treat it like it's water of the gods, but it's trash. Poutine however, yes please!
@wanderbeard I heard that, I've never tried! I don't know much about the guy, but heard he died drunk driving which means he was probably not the greatest guy!
Matt - If you try working aboard in latin America (and surviving on their currency) then you'll get a different perspective Mexican work culture isn't great nor are the wages. Traveling is one thing - living and working is another.
Mate British food has a horrible name for it because people use the same blooming fish head pie and jellied eel that literally no one eats. Sticky toffee pudding mate, that is all that needs to be said.
You are so charismatic and Sexy! I love your beard, your dark hair, tats, not to mention your yummy accent and deep voice. I love watching your content. You are such a manly, handsome man. Yummy! ❤❤❤
Footie is definitely well supported in the UK, we do have a good comedy export, pubs sadly are a dying breed in this country, need to bring in the youth and make them engaged in the pub experience. Ah yes all the curries, I guess we can claim those as ours now, that and the Turkish Kebab. Did you forget overcrowded on the trains? Trains did used to be great back in the day, a lot needs to be done with them now. Let’s start with Nationalising them! 👍 will definitely leave the UK for at least half a year, every year at some point but no I wouldn’t miss any of that but can appreciate why one might! I’ve lived a way from home a couple of times for very extended periods in my life, missed my creature comforts but I was way younger, I could easily detach from those now!
Even Scarborough had a good team for a while, although they seemed to disappear 🤔 sadly young people don't see the value in pubs anymore, they can socialise online without spending a ton of money. Yep, curries, kebabs and while we're at it, all Chinese and Italian cuisine are British now 😅 I read somewhere Labour are starting to nationalise the railway, but surprise surprise the tickets are still gonna go up in price year on year 😅 where are you thinking of living away? Lot less options post-Brexit!
Me, me, me, me, me, a video about me .....who cares but most important subscribe and lots of likes....the podcaster pandemic of noise continues the gravy train continues, the sane remain in silence.....the healing balm is silence...
Sadly the British sense of humour seems to dying out now with the rise of gen z (not all, but the loud ones) who get offended by everything and being saturated by American snowflake views. Our sense of humour was quite self deprecating and we could laugh at ourselves but now people like to separate themselves and mock other people in a rather cruel way as if they never would dare do anything like that themselves as it’s beneath them. I find comedies made ages ago when I was too young to appreciate them are funnier than anything now like panel shows with bad comedians like Nish Kumar
I think you're right in terms of mainstream TV comedians etc, but in everyday life you can still have a really good laugh and there are still some hilarious people about, even some of the youngsters
@ Oh yeah that’s true, I work with some gen z in a pub and they’re hilarious nothing like the miserable studenty ones that come in. I’ve been telling them to watch old comedy like Blackadder, League of Gentlemen, Red Dwarf etc and they usually come in quoting something the next shift 😂
Haha sadly a lot of those things are more sort of rose-tinted specs/nostalgic things really. Going to football/pubs/taking a train are bloody expensive now
😂 an I left 9 months ago 😂 you’re about 50. You’re way behind the times mate. Do yourself a favour and make this video in 15 years time, then that’ll give you the right to brag you left uk. 😂

I think a week would be enough to cure me tbh 😅
Yes I miss a few things but the town where I grew up is no longer the same. Britain is not the same. I’ve just got fond memories now and I’m happy with that.
Totally agree, sometimes it's better to just leave things in the past so you don't tarnish the memory
@@no_soy_rubio hence the expression, “the good ol’ days” 🤩
Agree with all those things, Matt, especially the bit about the Americans...Take care, bro.
Haha thanks dude
Food in the UK is the best in the world, sort of! If you know you know 🙃🍄
Comfort food, definitely!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🌹
The great food 😂😂😂
Sorry Matt, mis-spelt Margate in my answer: I saw your video on Margate... every time I go there it pisses with rain.
Haha I've been many times, in sun and rain, it's definitely a place that needs to be experienced in the sunshine 😅
This is the "most British" I've heard you in your videos haha. I get it about British food, though, everyone loves the food from their homeland, regardless what everyone else thinks of it.
Indeed, I'm sure you missed your poutine and/or Tim Horton's 😁
@@no_soy_rubio Fun fact, Tim Horton's is the worst coffee ever! For some people, they treat it like it's water of the gods, but it's trash. Poutine however, yes please!
@wanderbeard I heard that, I've never tried! I don't know much about the guy, but heard he died drunk driving which means he was probably not the greatest guy!
@@no_soy_rubio But a famous hockey player, so that's all that matters to anyone here 😂
Extra mature cheddar cheese.
It's taken many years to get it here in Mexico
He’s so hot 😍
Matt - If you try working aboard in latin America (and surviving on their currency) then you'll get a different perspective Mexican work culture isn't great nor are the wages. Traveling is one thing - living and working is another.
There's a bird of prey flying in the background.
Lots of them in these parts, Vultures too!
Mate British food has a horrible name for it because people use the same blooming fish head pie and jellied eel that literally no one eats. Sticky toffee pudding mate, that is all that needs to be said.
💯
Spotted Dick and Custard is nice as well but probably best not to mention that one
Rugby union is better than Ruby league I'm not enjoy Football at the mo I'm a Spurs supporter lol 🤣🤣🤣
You are so charismatic and Sexy! I love your beard, your dark hair, tats, not to mention your yummy accent and deep voice. I love watching your content. You are such a manly, handsome man. Yummy! ❤❤❤
🙈 thank you and have a great Christmas!
The sane remain in silence...
Clearly that doesn't apply to you then 😅
Sadly the British sense of humour seems to dying out now with the rise of gen z (not all, but the loud ones) who get offended by everything and being saturated by American snowflake views.
@
Oh yeah that’s true, I work with some gen z in a pub and they’re hilarious nothing like the miserable studenty ones that come in.
I’ve been telling them to watch old comedy like Blackadder, League of Gentlemen, Red Dwarf etc and they usually come in quoting something the next shift 😂
@TayWoode nice one 💪😂
maybe you should move back to the uk🇬🇧 then
One can be nostalgic and simultaneously enjoy experiencing a different country/climate/culture. They’re not mutually exclusive.
Bragging where? Behind what times? Do yourself a favour and write something that makes sense rather than lots of laugh emojis.
Ps 😂
