This seems so peaceful. Nice video. I am originally from India, settled in US and this is regular life style on rural side India. Seriously this lifestyle has more fun and living. People living in small houses have lots of savings but that does not affect the way of life. It is simple , pure and blissful.

Look closer, they are not growing backyard gardens. This is their lively hood. They look tired. The sun is hot and if you dont work you literally wont eat. The music makes it appear to be peaceful. But, I lived the village life and they still have corruption, stealing, people sleeping with other peoples wives, children being disobedient. Yet, their lives have more quaility than the lives of those who live the cutthroat, dog-eat-dog life of those who live in the urban areas. The food is healthier, the air is cleaner and generally, they live moral lives with dignity and respect.

I have read many of the comments below and would like to follow-up with a comment of my own: many seem to be offended at the use of the word “poor” in the title but I think it’s important for the viewers to understand that poor doesn’t mean pathetic. Like some have said said they might be monetarily (no bank balance or even a bank account) poor but are “rich” in spirit. “Happy” is also an empty or meaningless term. I think people living in simple existence have no choice but to be content with what they have. I am fairly that most villagers are not wasting time in a day wondering why they have such a difficult or miserable life or why they are depressed like many Westerners do. At the end of day, they are satisfied by their hard work, selling their product at market, being able to buy some essentials for their home & family with those profits, eating a good meal, and sleeping in a safe, warm bed at night (even if it’s in a room with many family members). Granted, rural poor villagers may not be on anti-depressants and such to cope with misery but there plenty of alcoholics and people who chew tobacco or beetlenut or smoke cigarettes or other things. People do what they they have to deal with life, rich or poor. Those of us in western cultures or “rich” eastern cultures should be grateful for the life we have and any blessings that come our way. No way they are 'poor'. Having spent time in Indian villages, I can vouch they are 'rich'. Simple living. No greed. Enriching the environment. Hard working. And a big heart. They will share with you whatever food they have, even if it means they eat less or go hungry. Access to basic education (schools) and primary healthcare can make a big difference to their lives. Although, the hinterland has come a long way in the last 2 decades. Jai Hind!

Ahhh from a long ago perspective of living and working 2 years in what is now Chattisgarh State, (American Peace Corps - Poultry...murghi walla!) all that said before that extols their simple virtues has it...mostly. Yet many children still go to bed hungry, simple diseases or health conditions abound not to mention other life's tribulations such as the financially insane dowry system etc. This is hardly 'harmony with nature' or some altruistic virtue.
