I'm actually disappointed with how the JPN OG white variant looks. It looks close to the real thing, but even the real thing looks kind of gross. I would of gone for the NA-black version, but 8bitdo dropped the ball on it's design by not throwing in any orange accents. It looks stupidly bland. what were they thinking? The original wired NA TGFX controller looks so awesome and absolutely 90's. Neither of these 3 8bitdo wireless controllers look anywhere near as good. I wish i could just use an actual NA TGFX controller and install a 2.4GHZ board inside of it, ditch the wire and get it work wirelessly.
I'm getting excited for my TG16 Mini to arrive. I pre-ordered it back in September. I got an email from Amazon awhile ago saying I'm going to receive mine in early June. I'd like to try out a wireless controller for it once it arrives.
A bit of an update. I've 4 now, and the width problem is easily fixed with short USB extendion cables. No need for 2 original controllers, just use the one that came with the console and use one USB dongle on an extension cord. These controllers also work out of the box on Mac OS 10.14 with say Open Emu. That's cool. Wireless controllers for your Mac.
Actually that kinda makes sense why you can’t use the second port on the console when using the turbo tap.. remember the original tg16 only had 1 port on the console and there is no game that supports more than 5 players.. so unless your using the second port for hacks there is no need for that port to work since the turbo tap makes you able to play games with up to 5 players.
Loved the video man! Just subscribed! You said that they work on the Switch too. Have you had any problems with them on the Switch? They seem really easy to connect. As for mini consoles, would they work on any/all mini consoles? Why I'm asking that, is because I really would like to buy at least one of these three controllers, but I don't know if I'll end buying a Turbografx 16 mini.
Still, none of them look as great as the original wired US Turbo controller. Maybe if the 8bitdo version applied an Orange turbo logo next to the yellow 8bitdo font, and those 6 orange dots on the right. The original Screams 1990, the wireless version is just bland and safe.
i dont really have any use for these controllers but the pc engine and core grafx look sexy. my collection of 8bitdo controllers is already outpacing the retro games i play since i own the m30, sn 30 pro + and a n30 pro 2
I love these controllers personally, it is a shame you can't use the multitap with them and use all five ports, however they do work on PC and I was easily able to configure all five for play on the Magic Engine emulator
What is cumbersome is that if you plug in 3 into the multitap with port 2 and 4 empty, you can't play bomberman 3-player, but you must select 5-player and have player 2 and 4 be bomb-food. The multi-tap kind of hardwires position one to player 1 and so forth. I'll try a USB extension cable for player 4, as player 2 can be the original controller. Other than that, these 8-bit do controllers are a good alternative to the impossible to find Hori originals. They feel pretty OK, and even though auto-fire is locked at speed 2, it still helps quite a bit in say Galaga 88.
No PAL-style controller? Bummer... Well, at least the controllers look fantastic, and it's always good to see that the TG gets some love. I already have the M30 and the SN30 Pro controllers, which I freaking love. Might give those new controllers a whirl
The should have bought out a "Dual Dongle" set like the Retro-bit Saturn and Genesis 2.4GHz controllers to be used on Original Hardware as well as USB devices. I just don't understand why you would bring out a Wireless Controller for the PC Engine - that can't be used on a PC Engine??
Low demand... Nah Im being facetious. I was really salty when I saw there was no tg/pce dongle. Considering the controllers have short wires, theyre expensive, and it's hard to find one in good shape, wireless seems like a no-brainer solution. On the plus side though, it's compatible with the brook adaptor for pc engine and genesis.
I don't see a problem, as you can get USB extension cables. The SNES 8-bit Do feels better than any controller I've used thus far (reflective on the price).
Usb extenders fix issue......and the 2nd port is disabled as 5 is the max simultaneous player on a PC-Engine game. And there never was a 2nd controller port on the original system...they just added one on the mini for convenience.
Any word on a version of these that works with an original TurboGrafx 16/PCEngine? Up until now the 8bitdo controllers usually offered compatibility with the original console and I was very disappointed to see that these didn't include an adapter for that this time.
Just like back in the day when you had your friends over for some couch co-op, your least favorite friends got the crappy controllers. This go around, your least favorite friends get the the wired controllers instead of the fancy 8BitDo! HAHAHA
Some games you need to use the middle turbo option... I know I use it for Cyber Core and some other shooters, but I’m not sure if that game is included on the mini.
Opted for the Core Grafx 8bitdo, but they are totally sold out! I figure it's worth the wait, I know it's something as simple as a color swap and won't match my Turbografx, but the TG16 controller is a bit boring for my taste!
Any word if 8bitdo is going to release DIY kits for the OEM controllers and the Mini controllers to make them wireless? They've done it with every other mini system, so I'm really hoping they do with these.
I get people wanting the 2 button ones for that authentic feel... but the lack of turbo switches was a HUGE miss for me. I want this... but I want them with turbo switches. So I will wait till they are either made, or just not get them. Also... I would have loved a Turbo Duo RX version with 6 buttons. I don't want to hear that "oh, if they did that it would cost to much"... dude, people already pay $100 for used versions of these that are next to worn out... is just giving people what they want too much to ask?
Hi and great video. Very comprehensive. Could someone suggest any other games this controller would benefit on the Switch besides NES? Shooters? Thank you!

Going to be testing that soon. The extensions I have currently are really long and they did not work. I bought a couple short ones a while ago and the connector plastic was too fat to fit. I recently ordered some other short extensions and am just waiting for them to show up to test.
For me this feels like 8bitdo phoned in this controllers not the same width and could have made the research the spacing for the hub and the switchable turbos. Frankly I'll just keep wired till someone else makes these properly maybe hyperkin
You did not need to test the turbotap for me to know the other USB would be disabled. The two USB ports are low power 2.0 and shared. The turbotap will draw too much power from the port you are plugged into. This leaves no power for the remaining port. A powered USB hub would work and let you use the remaining USB.
It makes sense that the second port doesn't work with the Turbo tap, because you are already using the Turbo tap. There is no reason to have both working.
The reason I tested this and pointed it out is because just plugging these controllers straight into the multi tap you can only use 3. So if that 2nd player port worked at least 4 would have been possible without having to do or buy anything extra.
Too bad Hori messed up with the sales channel. It is basically impossible to get an original controller at the list price. You're left to the scalpers asking as much as the console itself. 8bitodo did do an N64 Bluetooth controller a few years ago, and I'm sad because I've hit them up about re-releasing it and haven't gotten an answer back.
Its possible. And I am hoping to do a follow up. I have really long USB extensions and they didnt work. I bought a couple shorter extensions but the connector was too fat on the plastic around the usb to fit them. I have a couple more coming that looks like they will work and I will be testing out soon~
I am waiting to get a couple of them as the ones I have are wayyyyyy tooo long and din't work when I tried them. So I am getting some shorter ones to test it out.

its so stupid that they dont do famicom pads with these diagonals on round tab like this pad! sega genesis also do this diagonals. as for me its so uncomfortable to play games without it, like it was on original famicom pads and other clones! when you play its very cool if you can push this diagonals, or you should place your fingers on 2 ways altogether!!! this is stupid decision.

so many controllers i dont need that much
Did u try putting turbo tap into second controller port, then plug controller into first player port.......Maybeee??
Since the usb ports are stacked do the 8bitdo Bluetooth dongles fit using 2 of them?

I really wish they added the orange accents to the turbo version.
Probably could use usb cable extenders to attach those last two ports on the multitap
I have 2 short usb extenders that would fix this issue. Not ideal, but doable.
my thought exactly
I was gonna say the same thing!
Yea using a small USB extension cord would definatly fix the issue.
Even better a couple of Male to female USB adapters will solve the issue.
Nice man MLP da Real MVP! How you haven't hit 100k subs yet boggles me...your content is my favorite on YT! Thanks for another honest review.

Yep, unfortunately they only made them the PCE color :(
sad cause mine isnt coming till June 3rd lol. awesome review!

Thanks for the heads up on the neo geo arcade stick . Picked one up
Could you connect 5 USB extension cables to the turbo tap and then connect the dongles? That might be a way to give them enough space.
Sounds like he would just need a couple of them to make it work.
@@SnackyCakess True, but getting 5 of them would give it a really cool tentacle monster vibe. ;-)

Why don't they offer a version with the exact layout of the original TurboGrafx16?
Or a mod like the ps1 mini that way they're wireless original controllers.
Any word if 8bitdo is going to release DIY kits for the OEM controllers and the Mini controllers to make them wireless? They've done it with every other mini system, so I'm really hoping they do with these.

Is it possible to mod a HORI official pc engine controller with the wireless setup that 8bitdo have? I kinda prefer that, but wish it was wireless
Damn you get everything first. Mine come tomorrow I guess
Originally they said they wouldn't be here until Friday... and then bam showed up early lol. Sometimes I get lucky, sometimes I am left behind...
Seems easily solvable with USB extenders on the dongles.
Wonder if you could use a small USB extension for ports 2 and 4. Mine will be in on Saturday, looking forward to it
Going to be testing that soon. The extensions I have currently are really long and they did not work. I bought a couple short ones a while ago and the connector plastic was too fat to fit. I recently ordered some other short extensions and am just waiting for them to show up to test.
After looking at that tiny battery, looks like plenty of room inside.. Possible to put in a bigger battery?!? 🤔🤔🤔😉😉
You get close to 18 hours battery life on a full charge.
Can you plug multi tap into 2nd port instead? Then port 1 would work? Prob not, but thought I'd ask.
For me this feels like 8bitdo phoned in this controllers not the same width and could have made the research the spacing for the hub and the switchable turbos. Frankly I'll just keep wired till someone else makes these properly maybe hyperkin
do you think they will do a wireless controller also for the PC engine original? I tremendously need one!
Wish you could use these with the orignal consoles
Moto Roader is another great 5 player game before Mario Kart is a thing. Can you just use any USB hub as mutil-tap?
Mine is coming on Friday. It’s not as good as the IIRCADE though. 😔
do they work as wired when plugged in via usb or is it just for charging?
just get some short usb extension cables
Any clue if it works on the Retrobit's Super Retrocade?..., please let me know cause I might consider getting one if it's compatible.
It's that a PC screen where it is plugged in to?
there's a turbo graphics 16 / personal computer engine mini? first im hearing of that
Could you test them with MiSTer? The Genesis 2.4G works flawlessly, just wondering if the TG16 work too.
They do work, just its only 2 buttons essentially.
@@Madlittlepixel Thanks very much, so similar to N30 (not pro), just two buttons and turbo.
Just got my PCE edition 8bitdo controller today. Can’t wait to try it out on MiSTer now that we have the PCE-CD core.
dang so bummed that there's no receiver for original hardware 🥺
You did not need to test the turbotap for me to know the other USB would be disabled. The two USB ports are low power 2.0 and shared. Is there any way to connect these to actual Pc engine hardware console?
does this controller plug into and work on a laptop computer usb port ??
Any noticeable lag difference from the wired controllers?
Definitely a bit of lag on mine. Super disappointed. Went back to the wired controllers. Very noticeable.
Does it works with mister or you’ll need the blister?
It makes sense that the second port doesn't work with the Turbo tap, because you are already using the Turbo tap. There is no reason to have both working.

👍👍
any idea if there will be bluetooth versions, i'm not a fan of having to fiddle with dongles and i'm always short on USB ports.
did you know that usb hub costs fraction of anything with bluetooth?
Well, the mold is complete, so they have no excuses for not making a 2.4 Ghz dongle for REAL hardware. Get it done, 8bitdo!
Too bad Hori messed up with the sales channel. It is basically impossible to get an original controller at the list price. You're left to the scalpers asking as much as the console itself. Just run that Bomberman party on your computer, so you have access to any controller. Hori locked up the console to most third party controllers. Amazing these 8-bitdo's were able to sneak through the protection against fake controllers.
Is this only for the TG-16 Mini? I'd really like to use it on PC.
Only switch compatible I herd
i want one for my legit TG16
Im hoping next year they make an n64 controller or a bluetooth adapter 🙏
8bitodo did do an N64 Bluetooth controller a few years ago, and I'm sad because I've hit them up about re-releasing it and haven't gotten an answer back.
Could you just grab 5 6" USB extension cords?
Its possible. And I am hoping to do a follow up. I have really long USB extensions and they didnt work. I bought a couple shorter extensions but the connector was too fat on the plastic around the usb to fit them. I have a couple more coming that looks like they will work and I will be testing out soon~

It works on a Mac, so probably it will.
They dropped the ball on the TG16 version, a splash of orange would have went a long way.
I agree - The "8Bit" part of the logo should have been orange and the "Do" part Yellow
Mister??

Get two 6" usb extenders. A lot of us said this last time.
I understand that, and that may be an option. I have used longer cables as thats all I had and they didn't work.
