    Awesome videos! I have a family member that was working on the construction of Miller Park (not on the cranes) when the Big Blue Crane collapsed due to wind speeds being 25-27mph and the boom on the crane was rated for 20mph. I’ll always remember that incident. No better statement than there is no work more important than the safety of the crew doing the work.

    Nicely done the view at the top messes with my perception of what looks good and what is good. Whatever they pay you for your time you are worth it and then some. Have a great week.

    I was called to set trusses on a cranberry farm. 90 foot span, 150 foot long building with 20 foot high walls. Brickl Brothers was the contractor.
    I got set up and picked up the first truss, but the wind was steady at 20 mph, gusting to 35. (they have weather stations all over the marsh) The guy sitting on the side wall was signalling frantically to swing the truss over, but I looked up, and my boom was side loading like crazy, I had to call it off. My boom tip must have been 20 feet ahead of the truss!
    They sent me home, and hired a bigger crane. The law is still the law, and a bigger crane isn't the answer. I hope no one got hurt.

    Awesome video I heard about your channel from Logger Wade. Does your seat tip back with the controls? If it doesn't you must have one strong neck!!! I always have been fascinated by cranes. I'll watch them all and look forward to more. Great Job!!!

    • @ToTheTopCrane
      @ToTheTopCrane  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ted John, the inside of the cab and the controls do tilt back. I don't use it all that often though. It give me a strange sensation with it leaned back. Almost like I'm tipping over backwards. I suppose if I kept it tilted for a while, I'd get past that.

      Duncan MacKenzie, the seat reclines and the inside of the cab tilts backwards. That definitely helps. 😉

      Duncan MacKenzie, I always try to reply. There are a few comments that slip through the cracks every now and then. But, I do my best to reply to everyone. The way I see it, if a person goes out of their way to write to me about a video, it would be awfully disrespectful for me not to extend the same courtesy.

    • @63256325N
      @63256325N 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really do appreciate that but it might become too much of a burden as your channel grows. I certainly could understand that and anybody with any common sense would understand that too. Say you've got a million people commenting, there just wouldn't be enough time in the day to read and answer them all, just as a for instance. You see where I'm going with this. No need to reply.....lol. Have a great rest of the day.

  • @72hourbob61
    @72hourbob61 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You're going to have to split these up into more parts. I can't hold my breath for 20 min. without passing out. I would have to have a Valium the size of a football to even think about doing that. After work do you just rip the top off a keg to relax?

    • @ToTheTopCrane
      @ToTheTopCrane  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      72+HourBOB, cell towers are my least favorite jobs so far. There are times when I would like to submerge myself in a barrel of whiskey. However, I have a rule for myself of no drinking on a work night. I don't want even a trace of alcohol in my system while operating. Many thanks for watching! 🙂👍

      I am with you Blazer. I remember my first trip to the top of an unsupported 100' ladder and could not believe how much that thing was twisting. I got used to it in years to come. As a rookie we had to climb up one side, over the top, and back down the other side in a 45' Flagpole ladder raise supported by four of your fellow rookies holding the ladder vertical by ropes. Never had to do it other in that rookie training..

    hey Jimmy I watched video on you setting house I noticed they didn't use spreader bars

    • @ToTheTopCrane
      @ToTheTopCrane  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Demag, a few of the house setting crews that we work with don't use spreader bars. They use long 6 inch wide straps. I actually prefer no spreader bars if possible. The house doesn't move around as much and there's less rigging. Also, the crews have padded blocks that they slip in against the eve where the straps sit. That keeps the straps from damaging the house and vice versa. Thanks for watching! 🙂

    • @ToTheTopCrane
      @ToTheTopCrane  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lawn Commander, no. We are very well versed in all of the OSHA standards that pertain to our careers. We study that thoroughly during the crane certification process.

    I really thought all cranes would have joy stick cams at the top by now, it would take all the guess work out and speed thing up.

      That1ufo, the only cameras that are mounted from the factory are pointed at the winches.

    Do you know what radios the climbers typically use? There's a new tower near me being constructed and their at this phase. I'd kinda like to listen in on what they're saying. Is it FRS or GRMS?

    • @ToTheTopCrane
      @ToTheTopCrane  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure. Every crew seems to use something different. You may be able to pick them up with a cheap radio that is set to scan mode.

    • @AvidSurvivalist
      @AvidSurvivalist 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have my scanner scanning all the FRS channels. I also have been looking around that frequency range with a SDR (software defined radio) dongle. It was overcast with scattered showers and wind, probably nothing much was done today.

    Horsein with a crane is never a good idea especially with three men's lives at stake. Add another piece of jib or get a bigger crane is a much better idea. I've seen guys do stuff like this for years and get away with it, but sooner or later your luck will run out
