So nice to see a Brazilian teaching in this channel! First the pronounce of his name put me in doubt, but his accent is unmistakeable hahaha

Congrats for U both Marcos and Geoff!!! Indeed, this technique where he uses the thumb movement retraction and opening one is enterely used in Bach Cello Suites. I'd like to add that for me, at least and not last, the two strings fourths thumb position pushing against the string works very well. But his idea is also interesting about just pushing one string and the lowest one just be touched by the tip of the finger. Of course, Bach has tons of unusual thumb position movements and this is just the iceberg point. Cheers Mate!

This is as easy to understand as un Scrabbleing a lot of tangled wire. I'm 54yrs old and have been playing double bass since I was 18. But, I'm not a real musician with a concert pitch ear, I can't read music and not quite sure what key etc. I'm a thrash and bash it, slap it and break it rockabilly player.

Interesting to see players who think "outside the box" rather than those who remain stuck in the old ways.

"Let's start with the basics" (plays arco double-stop fourths by pushing the D from the side)

Is between 1/2 and 5/8 according to Marcos.

Wow, I've never seen this fourth technique. Waiting to get home and try it in pizzicato, but it is very unlikely that it works unless played with arco.

Me too! I was so surprised that I've never seen anyone else doing it. Marcos has some amazing techniques up his sleeve and this was one I loved.

I'm guessing that it wont sound in pizz. Lauren Pierce teaches a similar technique for playing notes past the fingerboard and they wont ring out pizz even if they are crystal clear arco.

Yes, it’s an arco only technique and can also be used past the end of the fingerboard 🎶

Poodle ͡ ͜ ͡ absolutely, it’s an old technique that has been used by many generations of bassists. - in my earlier comment I was only suggesting that it was new to me and not an original idea by Dr Machado.
