  • If you are replacing your VW Vanagon Radius Arm Bushings there are a few things you should know that can make the job much easier. In this video I go through the proper procedures to replace the radius arm bushings. I found the Mueller-Kueps large wrench extender a must to break the radius arm free, as they are torqued to 133 ft/lbs. I replaced the factory steel sleeve as it was rusted and worn through. I cleaned up the radius rods and coated them with POR15 to help minimize future corrosion. The threads on the radius rods are M18x1.5mm, and I used a tap to repair the threads as they were quite rusty.

I reference the Bently manual, if thats what you were referring to. Not as good as the VW Service manual, but I can't find one of those.

Thank you for the comment good Sir, and there is more to come !! I love my Vanagon and have done quite a bit of work to it. I weave Vanagon vids in with the other content to keep it varied. There are quite a few vids already in the Vangon playlist :)

This is a good one to do, and when these bushings are worn, your van will wonder, doing them really tightened up my steering and the van does not wonder anymore. Mine were pretty bad as you saw in the video. Thanks for the comment :)

Awesome video! Everything I needed and wanting information wise without and jibber jabber! Also nice to see it's a simple enough job on a van as crusty and dusty as mine 😂😉

Noticed that you have bigger tires 16" (?) and the spare in the clamshell. Are you running with the old 14 incher as the spare or have you modified the clamshell to accomodate a bigger tire? Thanks for the channel. High production value!

Hey There, the wheels are actually 17", they are old Mercedes Benz tires from the late 90's early 2000's. They are forged, and I think they came of an AMG model. I painted them silver. The clamshell still holds the factory 14" and if I ever get a flat I would be sure to arrange the wheels so the spare would ALWAYS be on the front, as it wouldn't matter much as they are independent. The rear ones go into the trans so you want them turning at the same speed. Thanks for the comment and more VW content coming your way soon !!!

@@montanaharkin That never hurts !!!! The radius arm bushings are probably one of the most overlooked things, and you know they really affect your handling. After I did mine I noticed right away my van did not sway back and forth on the highway !!
