You are right. It's mid range is quite weak. I got the same model and recently I was trying to a pickup comparo between Thar and Taigun. They beat me while we were around 70-80. So yeah its pale. But I have found peace with it. I think it's refinement is amazing. Whoever sits in my Verna says it feels like a Electric.

I have the same model and I always feel regret whenever I see turbo variant on road or on youtube ki yaar bss 1 lakh extra de diye hote toh Turbo engine aur ADAS mil jaata.....Thats why I am planning to Swap the engine with the turbo(if possible) after the 7 years warranty period has expired
