You dont really buy the wheel to be quicker, you buy it to have fun. I bought a Playseat and a Thrustmaster T300RS with the F1 wheel addon, i think it makes your experience much better. It do cost some money but i think its worth it, i use it alot.

I use controller and the most difficult thing for me is that I have to press so many buttons at a time. I think it will be much difficult to drive when trying to shift up/down, change fuel mixture and change the ERS deployment at the same time....
I bind gas to R2 and downshift to R1 and vice versa. It somewhat make me slower if i want to flat out a corner but it free my hand to adjust fuel, ers and command.
I find it a bit of a casual thing,what I do is not focus on the shifting when in gear 8 and focus on everything else,so simply do everything you need to do when your on the straight in max gear and do it as fast as you can,you can learn from it if you understand
Imo the wheel should be somewhat quicker. It is a racing game and irl you have to be as smooth as possible with steering to be quick, which is better done with a wheel so it is only logical that the wheel is slightly quicker, it's basically just more realistic.

I can definitly say that I am little bit faster on controller then my friend which plays on wheel in F1 2017. So no you can be much quicker then player on wheen if you know how to play this game on controller.

Irl if you'd drive a car with a pad you'd also be slower. Codies are now aiming to be a sim and thereby they will have to make it realistic-ish. Looking at other sims like rF2, AC, iR; the pad is also slower than the wheel there because that is the most realistic
I completely disagree as something being more difficult isn't justification for making something faster. Furthermore, what I mean is that they should basically make them equal but because of the nature of the pad and real life cars it should automatically be slower, that is the best way if it makes any sense but the pad should never be made faster than the wheel, ever, and especially in a game aiming for simulation.
Does anyone else find hairpin corners on controller seriously difficult? Second to last corner in Canada this year seems to be a lot harder to get through
I know this video is old, but the point still stands: if you want the experience to be there, you need a wheel. Having all assists off is nearly impossible without analog throttle and brake control, and don't even get me started on the choppiness of the steering, even if it's done with the analog stick. I'll get a wheel in like 2 months anyways and I'll finally feel confident in going no assists
so the last F1 game I played was f1 2012, and when jumping into F1 2018 I found that I cannot fully brake with the control pad, can anyone help to let me know how I can fix this? I squeeze down the left trigger to brake and I saw from the HUD showing that its only braking 25%. mind you my controller hasn't been dropped or thrown. please help, it's odd that I can't fully brake

Saganator cx Why use ABS. I don't and I drive pad since 2016. The problem with pad on this game is the tyre wear and lap times during the race. Check out VeloceLimitless' video and you'll see what I mean.
The problem with controller is that I cant really manage my tires that well. Usually I would just skip tire management on practice because it is just impossible!
The last F1 game i bought was F1 2012 and using the pad I am still very very quick and very smooth. I think with F1 2018 wouldn't be that different, otherwise I have trashed €70 XD
Hi dude. I haven't played a f1 games for years. I mpretty decent on gt sport but on F1 I'm really struggling. Especially when going through high speed corners the rear goes very light and i spin out. Im using a controller any tips would be appreciated.✌
When the game came out I haven't had much time so I just quickly tried it with a pad. Xbox One pad to be precise. It was good at RB Ring. Then I tried it with a wheel. Same car, same track and almost 1,5 seconds faster lap on the firat try
Use the arch of the joystick to steer instead of pushing it right and left. Push the joystick up to the arch and use the curve to steer left or right. Watch veloce limitless video on this. That adjustment you do to straighten the car make it become slower.

wheel is easier to use but controller teaches you to be more exact with your breaking because since it is so annoying to use the controller, whenever you turn, you always have to push the joystick completely rather than tilt it a little, so for that reason the controller teaches you that you have to be very exact so you can learn to go at the right speed since you have to use 100% turn, wheel is easier because you can adjust but then since there is more forgiveness, you don't have to be as exact
Using the wheel is Difficult but the Pad is also Difficult as well and also lots of people do the side to side tap on the joystick, it’s much easier to hold up on the joystick and turn with the top part not the side and I think that lots of people would get a lot of better laps by doing that 👌🏻👍🏻
I’d like a wheel but I genuinely don’t have space as you said. On my desk I’ve got my gaming laptop, PS4 and xbox1 and tv. There’s just no room so it’s pad all the way for me
I use a controller. The main thing for me is traction on a pad as I find it difficult to be nice and gentle when coming off a corner sometimes. I would love a wheel and hoping to get one soon just don’t have the money or space to put it as I would have to buy and stand for the wheel and everything like that

Stick with the wheel. I moved from pad to wheel (after 10+ years of racing games on the pad) a few months ago and I won't touch the pad now. It's not just the wheel itself, but getting used to the pedals is a challenge. Getting the right throttle/brake is trickier than the turn in points with the wheel and so on. It's easier to be smoother on the wheel and it's easier without any assists on. In 3 months I went from pad to wheel, to half assists to now no assists at all. I love it.
The cost of the wheel isn’t the only factor, with the decline of the desktop computer and the advance of the laptop and consoles, not sure everyone wants to hook a monstrous racing wheel up to your kitchen table or coffee table, or desk, honestly it’s kind of a pain in the ass.
I use a controller on PS4. I have been practicing using manual gears on time trial just to get use to it but I struggle with braking point at the corner because sometimes it will lock up the front or rear tires. Plus I tried to be smooth as can on the controller but last night I kept hurting my index finger because I was been too aggressive on it.
Joep Rijsman Simulation steering on Forza spoiled me. One thing T10 nails is controller feel for their titles. So so happy that input lag has been addressed in F1 2018. Will help with consistency i feel. On another note, some of our German cousins already have the game thanks to Amazon 😂🏎️🏁
It looks to me in the video that you only move the stick side to side, its much more smooth if you push the stick forward, and use the curved arc the controller naturally has. It really helps with the smaller inputs into steering 👍

First your video seems quite good. But in my opinion you cant compare a wheel and a controller if you are not a good controllerplayer but a good wheel player. I would prefere comparing laps and driving styles of a good wheel and controller user, bacause i can defenetly say that there are a lot good controller users. That should not be hate just my opinion
Regardless of wheel or pad, you still have to make it through turn 1 in multi player lol. Just use what your comfortable with.

The wheel is the way to go. The overall exp is is just so much better. It takes the game to the next level.

People who say the game is unforgiving on kerbs they have no idea about sim racing
I've driven on plenty of sims, these kerbs are unforgiving, they are by far the least forgiving on an F1 game by codies as well as by any standard
