To be fair, we don't know if Hyness's neck can turn 180 degrees to turn upside-down. He's probably gonna have some serious neck pain after this.
I think he actually does a 360° turn with his head during his battle at some point. Kirby anatomy is weird...

Whereas hooded Hyness is a twisted and contained insanity, this theme shows every hinge gone loose, showing how obsessed Hyness has become. It's really a shame, too, because he is probably the kindest Kirby villain. But it just goes to show how easily negativity and corruption ruins one's soul... What exactly happened between him and the ancients, we'll probably never know, but he wasn't able to let go of his unfortunate past. Most of the time that is, for we he at one point was almost willing to ask Zan Partizanne, to, well, end him, because he could see he was no longer the happy and peaceful man seeking out paradise. But his generals alone couldn't bring him back, as he needed a force of true positivity to counteract his negativity that had brought the destructive Void Termina to life. This wasn't the Void Termina he always knew, for he once had a vision of a being guiding him to paradise. As it turns out, that being could have very well been Kirby, for all indications are to suggest that Kirby has the power of Void Termina, yet he prefers peace, friends, and of course food. And when this same Kirby defeats Hyness and his mages, he extended friendship to them as well, bringing both Hyness and the mages back to their normal selves, and with that, Hyness had found paradise. Great work on the music, as always.

Snowflakes, fire and lightning in background represent Three Mage Sisters Hyness possesed during second phase.
I think I remember saying on the original upload of Hyness's theme but its still a bit funny how we're at the point where Kirby can have a cult in their game and people are like "well yeah its Kirby! The endings are always meant to get weird."
He probably had to hide his face behind a hood because he keeps on being compared to some squid that lives under the sea.

If it weren’t for the DLC, I would have assumed Hyness was simply the most deranged character in Kirby lore. Now when listening to this, I can really feel the insane yet tragic nature of this guy who lost his way on the path of devotion.
I love how the Mage Sister are represented by the effects in the background.

One thing I sort of enjoyed during the game's first launch was just how, *evil* Hyness was.
As a sharp contrast to the other antagonists of the modern games, there was little to nothing that implied any tragic backstory. From what we were given, Hyness was an insane lunatic who lost any of his sanity into reviving Void Termina.
The pause screens also didn't give us much context, instead either explaining the mythos of Void or showing us the lyrics to the Prayer Song to God, another showcase of how disconnected Hyness was to the world. At the time, there were no redeeming traits to Hyness, nothing more than just a crazy gremlin who wants the end of the world just to spite the ones that betrayed him.
And personally, I enjoyed that characterization of him. It's a harsh reminder that even in the world of Kirby, not everyone will be controlled or be influenced by something. Some people are just born insane and cannot be helped.
While yes, Heroes in Another Dimension gave us a heaping ton of new context and backstory for Hyness, putting him back on a much similar spot of the previous modern villains as a tragic being who slowly was corrupted, it's still an interesting thing to think about.
Interesting perspective, but I think his current characterization is a harsh reminder of something else: even good people aren't immune to losing their goddamn mind under the right conditions.
Sure, the dark power of Void probably played some part in his corruption, but unlike Sectonia or Haltmann -- who were messing with ancient artifacts they didn't know the true nature of -- Hyness knew what he was dealing with. It was stated in a Switch news post about Star Allies that Hyness had forsaken his own heart and fell into darkness, which means that he deliberately let this happen to him. Why? Because he was broken after his entire clan was sealed to the edge of the galaxy and basically left to die (at least I assume so, because I don't see any other clan members like Hyness around), and he was desperate enough to take any opportunity to right those wrongs and end his despair, even if it meant tapping into the power of a God that can seemingly only respond to negative emotions (remember, Kirby was the only one who could make Void feel positive emotions. The four heroes could only seal it).
All of this shows that extreme stress might be the only thing needed to transform a kind and compassionate individual into an absolute monster, which is why I find Hyness to be such a compelling character. It's a miracle that he was redeemed (Sectonia and Haltmann certainly weren't that lucky), considering he began to believe that destroying the universe was the best thing he could do out of love for his clan; I believe that's the reason this battle theme is called "The Madness of Love" in Italian.

Again, the thing that made it interesting was we didn't get to learn more about his backstory until the DLC began rolling in.
Up until that point we couldn't really get a good grasp on Hyness's insanity and path to darkness, if he even had one. All we knew his cult was exiled by the Ancients under unknown circumstances (Were the Ancients too afraid of them? Was it out of unwarranted precation? Was it because of an action caused by the cult that the Ancients did not approve of?), and that was really it.
Looking at it at face value, it made Hyness seem like a naturally insane individual. His rant makes him look like the victim while also showing his corrupted sense of ego. No history of how he lost his heart, no backstory of him rescuing the sisters, just a hooded weirdo who wants to summon Void for being kicked out of the cool kids club.
At that point he was evil just to be evil, plain and simple, which while bland and shallow just like the levels yes, was a nice breath of fresh air compared to the sympathetic stories of Magolor, Sectonia, and Haltmann.
@@null6292 I wouldn't call Magolor sympathetic, unless the crown was controlling him BEFORE he put it on, which is debatable. Plus, I remember some developer interview saying that the crown "malfunctioned" after his first form was defeated, seemingly implying that it wasn't fully controlling him until then. Being controlled by the crown certainly sucked for him, but as far as I know, it resulted from him being power hungry, so I don't feel sorry for him.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of the idea that the crown manipulated Magolor before he put it on anyway. I much prefer him being a conniving bastard who excitedly stole it because of his ego and the power trip it would give him, not realizing it could control him. Then he gets humbled after Kirby beats the crown's darkness out of him, causing him to become a decent, if still slightly egotistical, person.
That's when it goes over to the popularity and fanon muddling it into a big mess and I won't go over that hell hole.
To summarize all of my thoughts:

Also, gotta love how his hateful manipulation of his team directly mirrors Kirby's own positive influence on his friends. Too bad Hyness didn't have years of experience in that field, or he might have done better.

Just realized, Hyness refers to a galactic _nightmare_ of a crisis. In his description, we see Kirby charged with ending said nightmare. Of course, Aeon Hero's return through Parallel Nightmare exists, but what if Void's resurrection is worse? Sure, it was a necessary step in prosperity thanks to Kirby saving Void, but what if Hyness' _own_ actions that restarted the cycle of hate and love are still the nightmare being referred to? Really puts some weight on this Officiant's threat.

Long ago, there existed a powerful arch-wizard. They were skilled in their craft, with spells that could make the impossible possible. They traveled the stars, performing miracles and preaching ideas of unity and equality. They would join a four man army in the fight against a dark lord of destruction, being the one to cast the spell to seal this destroyer deity away.
Soon, the Arch-Wizard would have a son, who would himself have a son, so on and so forth, each son followed the footsteps of their ancestors and helped those across the stars. Soon enough though, the ancients began shunning the Arch-Wizard’s family. After all, what good was magic if anything it could do, mass produced machines could do better? Besides, magic in their eyes was a primitive tool for the old days. And so, the mages were shunned, forced to exodus themselves to the ends of the galaxy due to the prejudice against them.
While the Mages stewed in their anger, the Ancients would soon bring about their own demise. In a twist of irony, their own artifacts were turned against by the very thing the very first Mage had saved them from, reducing their civilizations to ash.
Overtime, as generations passed, the mages forgot their original ideals, blinded by their hatred of a galaxy that had never appreciated what they had done for it. Soon, the Mage King would be born.
When the Mage King read in a long since tatttered and torn book about the god of destruction, they foolishly believed it was his people’s god due to the incomplete texts. They believed that by reawakening this god, they could reclaim the galaxy that had been stolen from them. They traveled the galaxy, searching for three new warriors that were necessary for the reawakening ritual. On a planet frozen over, they revived a frost bitten girl and gave her an icy axe. On a world covered in flames, they brought the burnt body of a small girl back to life, and gave them a flaming sword. And on a world wrecked by storms, they brought back the body of a little girl who was struck by lightning, and gave them a thunderous spear.
With the pieces in place, they could begin the ritual to bring back their dark god…
With every new Kirby villain, we delve a little deeper into the lore.
All we know so far is that magic and technology are at war, and four (maybe five, two wearing matching masks) “heroes” become threats to the universe itself and all we’ve seen is one and the masks of two others.
Where might one find images of the revealed masks? Wasn't aware such hints were given out!

Okay, where do I even begin? The violins were lovely and the woodwind instruments gave this track such a beautiful nostalgia vibe. As for the chords and effects, they were simply amazing. This is going to put in my dinner playlist. And seriously, this would go perfectly in the evening time.

The absolute contrast this has between his creepily quiet first phase and his spastic second phase. It really does embody the unhinged insanity that possesses this character - snapping and going into a wild rage as they reveal their face to be that of some creepy monster. The chimes now just being angrily banged in rapid sequence - I'll say it every time: a fantastic cover. :D
