Thanks for making this Jonah, I'm a huge fan of the movie (what's left of it). It has an energy, imagination and originality that's almost disappeared in Western cinema.
This movie is perfect as it is. Remakes suck, they only serve to robbing the original title of its real effectiveness and edge. If it works, it's much better to leave it as it is. The right thing to do is to spread the word about its existence and give it its place, which it not only has as a great film but also as a testimony to the conflicts between politics and cinema. The metanarrative of its status as an unfinished film just makes it work more, because somehow what happens in the story inside the movie also happens in the real world with it. You see the fictional shots and the street shots, as if there was a link between the two perceptions, the imaginary and the real. These inserts just elevate your viewing experience. Perfect and gestural solution to the missing scenes.Without those sequences it wouldn't be so great because it adds a documentary value within a science fiction movie. Found footage inside found footage. Great movie.
Hello Jonah Izyk Thank you for the good explanatory video. Of course, I would also like to see the complete version of "Silver Globe". With today's advances in generation AI, if technologies such as image generation and video generation advance, it may be possible to recreate missing parts in the future. (Alternatively, it may be possible to create a thinking AI based on all the information that Andrzej Żuławski has verbalized.) If a remake is possible, I would definitely like to see it happen. However, the spirit that went into the production at that time will likely be lost. What they (director, staff, cast, original author) were trying to create cannot be recreated with a remake. I don't know if they want that. And even though this movie is unfinished, it is definitely a great work.
Thank you for shedding light on this film and story. While incomplete, this film is still a masterpiece in filmmaking and made by an awe inspiring visionary director.
Absolutely. It's one that I have watched (and one that I will rewatch) over and over. They say conflict is good for comedy, but I think it's good for art as a whole. And this film was certainly born out of conflict.
I think On The Silver Globe doesn't need any remakes, espically nowadays. ıt's so beautiful like this. eventhough has missing parts of the movie. When I watched in "Pera Cinema that movie theater in İstanbul" I impressed. I haven't gone through film experince like this.
i was just introduced the other day to this film, i plan to watch it here shortly but thats what i think is already so special about its presence, niche things captivate a loyal audience and in time i believe it will keep slowly being displayed, until only respect is viewed from whoever decides to takes the reins to create
Thank you for this. I have been borderline obsessed with this since first seeing the limited release trailer some time ago. Not only do I understand the work better, I now have the opportunity to experience it!

Luckily, the film is back on TH-cam, and I watched it today. I wrote some long, convoluted, word salad of a review on Letterboxd, lamented on twitter how I needed someone to talk to about the masterpiece I’d just seen, and then searched for an analysis/review of the film back on TH-cam. I’m really glad I came across your video because, while lots of people might think of remakes and reboots are BAD, NO TOUCHY, I’m all for accessibility for wider audiences. Especially as a huge fan of See (which takes place in a very future version of where I live), I was glad to see (heh) you recommend it as a potential influence for what an updated On the Silver Globe might look like. Loved your video, wish you had more for me to binge. I also wish I’d had a friend like you in film school, I just feel like you and I could’ve geeked out on a lot of obscure and cult horror/scifi.
I have actually seen on the silver globe I watched it about 3 months ago and found it very interesting I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of it to where it could be made a little more understandable to all people but I think there was a lot of potential
Just came across this film and the director's works. I would love a remake but I would love an official blu ray release in the US even more. Thanks for putting this together!
Thanks for bringing attention to one of my favorite movies. I don't think a remake would do anything but pale in comparison. This movie belongs to the time period in which it was made. The 1970s was the most fearless decade for cinema and I cringe at any 1970s part 2 ideas(besides it's chronologically impossible). Most decades have bests and worsts. It's the 1920s and 70s for cinema. What do other people think
Excellent video essay, just hearing you summarize the movie was dramatic and exciting. 'On The Silver Globe' is one of the greatest works of science fiction ever made, and if it had been given its due it would be hugely popular. I don't fully agree that the film should be remade though, for a couple reasons. Firstly, I am really very skeptical that Mr. Big Name Producer could really carry over what makes this story great to a larger audience. Hollywood has obviously created great movies, but 'On The Silver Globe' just isn't the sort of film I could imagine being competently remade. I fear we would get something like the American 'Solaris' versus the Russian 'Solaris'. Mainstream audiences are open to really fantastic cinema (I hate the idea that mainstream audiences are stupid, they just don't have good options!) but I doubt the powers behind a remake would respect mainstream audiences enough to make a good remake for them. If the film is to be re-released & re-mastered, I am all for that! If there is a remake, I hope it is done by Polish filmmakers who have the same passion and love for the art that Zulwalski had. This film and the drama surrounding it are as significant as the film itself, and it only seems right that a story so closely tied to Poland should be made BY Polish artists. Secondly, I think there is great value in leaving a film like "untouched", so to speak. Making something more accessible to more people could result in it losing certain traits that make it great. Maybe it is better to leave it, and to let people who love movies and who love science fiction wrestle with and come to terms with the movie as it is. I think that could be extremely valuable. Art is not always meant to be accessible, it is sometimes better to be difficult to watch or understand. It wouldn't hurt anyone's movie palette to watch 'On the Silver Globe' as it is and still find the undeniably beautiful story within it.
This movie casts the spectator as an active co creator of the movie! And that is what makes it brilliant. its difficult and demanding, its perfect there is no need of a hollywood-downgrade. If there would be any new development to present the themes or the raw pain that this movie was made I would say yes! Example, if the ( if there are) any grand children of Żuławski's would make a sequal to the movie ! Or new fotage is found To just copy past the narrative ( the narrative is a smoke screen, a fasade) would be a poor choise,... Be true to the legacy, continiue the Lunar Trilogy, don´t water it down :) Thank you for reading!
It's much more difficult today to recreate the visuals, dark atmosphere and superb cinematography, and the intense costume designs that have driven into the viewers to bizzare planet. The problem is the time movie released or had anything to do with the promotion of the movie
Superb! Awesome content/wonderful presentation! You leave me no choice, but to subscribe. Many thanks for this brilliant introduction to your channel. I look forward to your other content. 👍😁
This is such an amazing video. I have been trying to find a way and time to watch On the Silver Globe for about a year since I first discovered it. I do hope a remake would explore much more the colonialism aspect and ask uncomfortable questions like "Even if you're trying to be free, does that make it right to move to a land that isn't yours?" or "What does it mean that your existence is because of an awful and despicable act of colonialism, enslavement, and exploitation?" My family is Dominican and that is a question that I've been asking myself for awhile due to the history of that country was built entirely on colonialism, genocide, and slaves and that we're mostly descendants of the Spaniards, natives, and African slaves. I think with people talking more and more about the dark history in the Americas from the Atlantic slave trade to the subjugation and genocide of the natives, this is something that I think can be an interesting exploration.
I love this. What a fascinating perspective. Films like OTSG give us a way to deconstruct complicated ideas through metaphor and help us to enter nuanced conversation. I love your take on this film. Never stop asking hard questions.
Erg. I had a chance to get a copy of this on DVD several years ago & didn't, assuming I'd "get around to it." Now it's really tough to get hold of. Watching these clips, I'm reminded of the 2013 film Hard to be a God. I wouldn't be surprised if it was at least in part, inspired by elements of this film. I didn't particularly care for Hard to be a God, but it was fascinating.
I do not wish for a remake, cinema nowadays is too political and not enough personal. Dune 2021 only exist because of Denis Villeneuve statut and talent in Hollywood, none in the industri could have produce it. So I do not think a remake will be good for the original.
I don't think a remake would be good. The film is too wild and original to be remade. But if someone was to do a remake then Denis Vilennauve (or maybe Christopher Nolan would be the men to do it) cause they have the license to do whatever they want with minimal studio interference. Two of the few directors able to complete their creative visions without studios dumbing it down for the masses for profit
I have a DVD with On The SIlver Globe burnt onto it, my friend worked at a museum which had a sort of archive of it. I also got The Threepenny Opera (1931) and A Page of Madness (1926) from him
I absolutely loved this video essay but I hate the general idea of it! lol. "big producers" are exactly what stories like these dont need. I dont think this epic movie needs a remake, much less an american remake. Also the references you used like GOT and See, are horrible references to remake this movie. OTSG is not a simple narrative but an art movie, full of visual poetry and open monologues. American producers would just kill it. The ONLY way I can see it being remade is that IF an existentialist director like Terrence Malick or Alejandro Innarritu, took on the project and worked together with Emmanuel Lubezki on the cinematography of it. That can be cool and interesting, otherwise american producers would kill it with a remake like they always do with european /asian movies (let the right one in and many others).

Watching the film is like being an alien trying to read and comprehend a jumbled copy of the Iiad; a fragment of another civilization's originary epic.. It's a magnificently shot film, but also unbearably acted. If a remake doesn't include that camera work, I don't think it would be worth it. I am very impressed with this video though. Nice job.
If you look at modern cinema, only specific filmmakers could do this justice. Honestly, you would need Chivo as DP to begin with... I don't know who could effectively tackle the emotions and tone. It would need to be an odd match. Paul W. S. Anderson directing, Chivo DP, with Michael Bay producing, from a Terrence Malik script. That's what it might need, but because that's too many conflicting creatives, it would need to be one individual who can capture all of those tones, and bring personal pain and frustration and hope and dreams to it. So...
You would need a director willing to do for this film what Peter Jackson did for LOTR. A faithful rendition of Zulawskis work as opposed to some other directors interpretation and retelling. I think this is one that really needs to be respected and should honour the vision that was robbed. My fear would be that modern Hollywood might be incapable of doing that.
I have the trilogy of Andrzej Żuławski' films on order (which includes the Devil, The third Part of Night, and On the Silver Globe). It is coming out this month (July 31st) on blu-ray from Eureka Entertainment. The release does include the making of documentary on the movie you talked about. Please be aware this will be a Region B release. If you live in North America, make sure you have a multi-region blu-ray player

@@not.spir0s Not necessarily, keep the visuals and the themes, even keep some of these crazy monologues but try to have a little coherent dialogue or story here and there
When I watched I felt a lot of similitudes to Nietzche’s thought. The idea of the death of God that translates as the death of the concept of absolute truth it’s for me one of the main arguments of the film. Our whole society has been built around the platonic concept of truth, that means that our existence and the meaning of life sustains by our blind faith in truth, in our desire to reach that pure and absolute truth and that desire has leaded the humanity to create religions. There other arguments like the differentiation between the human and the other (animal) or the human being as a specie that likes to be dominated by someone (a leader, a messiah, a system) because we are too coward and confuse to look into the eyes of the abyss of our existence and let ourselves be carried away for it.
I think that if anyone can do a good remake that maybe (big maybe) Christopher Nolan would do a pretty good job if he recreates it scene by scene but I really don't think a remake is necessary.
To me this movie was sometimes masterful, sometimes laughably bad. Most of the time it was so confusing it was unbearable to keep watching. I don't really know how to feel about it. It is definitely worth a watch if you like very weird and niche science fiction
24:09 No, they don't represent 'reason itself', that is a gross misinterpetation- quite the opposite, they represent what żuławski considers 'animal nature' in the sense of some kind of lack of consciousness, equanimity I would strongly doubt
A pretty cool teaser trailer in the beginning, but come on, let's not kid ourselves - regular audiences who want a COMPREHENSIBLE story would boo this movie off of the screen. Żuławski is a surrealist, his dialogue is near-unintelligible (I'm Polish, I know what I'm talking about) and his camera work is, in parts, vomit-inducing. Yes, this movie has great visuals, great costumes, some nice use of music, and even a compelling message (at least for me), but the editing is jumbled, the acting is loony, and the spoken lines are bordering on gibberish in parts. This is a movie for a very specific type of movie buffs, not for general audiences. I, personally, somewhat like the movie, overall, but I understand that for most people it would be unbearable to sit through. All of that said, it would be neat to see somebody else try to tell this story and, most importantly, keep the anti-religious and anti-societal messages. But I don't see it happening ever. There wouldn't be any money in it, and that is the only incentive nowadays for any kind of reasonable sci-fi budget.
In the starting of the film they talk about how there is radiation on the planet and after it they show their skin getting extremely black like you get from burning but it doesn't follow it skin colour was changing throughout the film ,anyone knows why? Or was it just camera angles?
I’m not trying to discard your idea but I think Instead of remaking it they should try and make their own Movie that is subtly inspired by it. On the silver globe is a one hit wonder.
10:25 work politics as in real life politcs, bc of the political danger in the dpeut cms notion; the point is he personally was a hardliner and didn't like it and saw it as a threat to the govt and he had the stick which was administratively important Regarding things I'm clear about- Also, wrong eagle and colour, for the PRL period it should be a crownless eagle on a cinnabar background (u can look up the prl eagle logo); the eagle's generald esign (with a crown) comes from 1927 (thought it was histrocially inspired) therefore using it to refer to Partition-era Poland is inaccurate. It is also inaccurate to say 'Poland' disappeared, 'Poland' didn't disappear but the state of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth didn't. The idea of a place, there and elsewhere continuously lived on in people's understanding, even as attempts were made to consciously abolish it through internal censorship (in Russia especially)
Honestly it’s nice to understand the language and plot, but that’s not the reason I love this film. It’s just pure filmmaking originality, sounds ironic because it’s an adaptation, but the irony cancels itself out because the OG writer is a close relative to the director. Lol
Why do people always want to remake good or even great movies? The hubris...philistines one and all. Here's an idea...pick a crap movie and try making it better. That's at least a challenge, that's a noble pursuit.
Do we really need to have this remade? For Michael Bay to put "more and bigger explosions" or Colin Trevorrov add "maximum amount of dinosaurs". Or maybe we need to boost it like Tarkowski's/Lem's visions where with George Clooney? Nope!
I just dont want the film to be re-made, the vibes are just too raw and authentic and it must stay the same❤

Found footage inside found footage. Great movie.
Hello
Jonah Izyk
Thank you for the good explanatory video.
Of course, I would also like to see the complete version of "Silver Globe".
With today's advances in generation AI, if technologies such as image generation and video generation advance, it may be possible to recreate missing parts in the future.
(Alternatively, it may be possible to create a thinking AI based on all the information that Andrzej Żuławski has verbalized.)
If a remake is possible, I would definitely like to see it happen.
However, the spirit that went into the production at that time will likely be lost.
What they (director, staff, cast, original author) were trying to create cannot be recreated with a remake.
I don't know if they want that.
And even though this movie is unfinished, it is definitely a great work.
Jonah Izyk
Thanks for tuning in. Cheers!
This is my all time favorite movie. Thanks for this review. The movie is awesome. Great photography and deep narrative. Other point of view to the Sci Fi genre . is just like to watch a cathedral in ruins. Greeetings from colombia
Eureka is taking preorders on this and others (Zulawski box set) right now.
Thanks for making this! I was planning to watch the movie and now have some good extra info! Great video quality btw you're underated af :)
We need more people like you
You're too kind.
Great video, really interesting. Thanks for making it, I’d never heard of this but it seems so unique.
Its literally impossible to remake a zulawski movie
It wouldn't be the same though. It's one of those things that if you tried to replicate it it is bound to fail.
I think with a proper madman at the helm, it could work. It's risky, but I think it's worth the risk.
The film is unique and strange to experience. It's a visionary, philosophical art film.
Amazing, authentic, & entertaining video!
Just came across this film and the director's works. I would love a remake but I would love an official blu ray release in the US even more. Thanks for putting this together!
Terrence mallick. We are waiting for u
Be true to the legacy, continiue the Lunar Trilogy, don´t water it down :)
Thank you for reading!
I whole heartedly agree! Any sort of adaptation/remake will have to be transformative in order to work. Thanks for watching.
It's much more difficult today to recreate the visuals, dark atmosphere and superb cinematography, and the intense costume designs that have driven into the viewers to bizzare planet. The problem is the time movie released or had anything to do with the promotion of the movie
I don't think a remake would do this justice. Though if someone like Alex Garland took it on, I'd watch it.
Hells yeah.
Superb! Awesome content/wonderful presentation! You leave me no choice, but to subscribe. Many thanks for this brilliant introduction to your channel. I look forward to your other content. 👍😁
Cheers! Thanks for tuning in, Tsukiko. I have more coming down the pipeline.
Oh, you just got a subscriber. Don't know about a movie remake. A series might be interesting. But I doubt it would be an improvement.
The only one who should be entrusted with a Żuławski remake is his son Xawery.
Dude I hope this gets out there!
No mo remkae
Thanks for the support, Tim. Let me know when you're shooting another music video.
It's on TH-cam!
I'm Googling that one.
Two of the few directors able to complete their creative visions without studios dumbing it down for the masses for profit
there being a hunger for stories like this is the precise reason it should not be touched. Hunger is one of the more corrupting forces.
I have a DVD with On The SIlver Globe burnt onto it, my friend worked at a museum which had a sort of archive of it. I also got The Threepenny Opera (1931) and A Page of Madness (1926) from him
No it doesn’t . Just leave it alone.
Well, good luck with your Quest. It will be a worthy one.
Onwards and upwards.
Absolutely fucking not
I absolutely loved this video essay but I hate the general idea of it!
An well thought out video with astounding execution, incredible
Okey, so im polish, this movie is polish, and my english is on a level of potatoe.
Jestem ciekaw jak go odbiore
A teraz zostawiam subskrybuje, bo świetny kanał i czekam na więcej takich materiałów!
Dont translate, i just wrote here how your content is bad and you are, of course, bad youtuber ;) Have a nice day
Nie mogę podążać za wskazówkami. I dziękuję! Doceniam to.
Thanks for a wonderful video! :)
Its my favorite movie of all time :)
Cheers. Thanks for tuning in.
Thank you for this!
My pleasure.
Nice job.
This sounds amazing
This film deserved better 😢
If you look at modern cinema, only specific filmmakers could do this justice. Honestly, you would need Chivo as DP to begin with... I don't know who could effectively tackle the emotions and tone.
It would need to be an odd match.
Paul W. S. Anderson directing, Chivo DP, with Michael Bay producing, from a Terrence Malik script.
That's what it might need, but because that's too many conflicting creatives, it would need to be one individual who can capture all of those tones, and bring personal pain and frustration and hope and dreams to it.
So...
And you'll see what I was trying to do with my crew list, and it likely wouldn't work. Clashing artists against action, to create a tug of war
I ve finished the movie some minutes ago. Im really confused and impressionated.
Hi from Italy!! 🇮🇹
28:04 You confuse themes with motifs. It has certain motifs, that doesn't mean it 'explores them as themes' (or that it would be a coehrent statement)
could you name science fiction reboots that has imporved on the original please? because I either don't see it or cant recall.
Yes. This film deserves all the superlatives, and more. I was just exposed to it by a recap channel, and was standing in awe for some time, trying to reason.. So, thanx a thousand for Your review to unlock some of its secrets to us! Bravo!
IT DESERVES ATTENTION!
Very good work mate
Cheers.
This could have been the best film of all time if the dialogue made any sense or if you could understand what was happening at any point
So if it was a completely different film
@@not.spir0s Not necessarily, keep the visuals and the themes, even keep some of these crazy monologues but try to have a little coherent dialogue or story here and there
filtered
i totally agree
@@georgebats9796 no, what's the point? You want the whole dialog delivered to you? Never keep it as it is!!!!
What a great film!
Absolutely amazing.
You deserve more views.
You are too kind.
Holy sh*t.
Fantastic content. Subscribed.
I wish someone would redo Wolfen and The Keep, and stay with the original stories...Hell, I wish someone would just do The Stars My Destination.
If you care Yerzy Rzoowavskee is how you pronounce it
24:09 No, they don't represent 'reason itself', that is a gross misinterpetation- quite the opposite, they represent what żuławski considers 'animal nature' in the sense of some kind of lack of consciousness, equanimity
I would strongly doubt
23:35 killed/scapegoated isn't quite the same as sacrificed
what was the music you used for the sizzler?
In the starting of the film they talk about how there is radiation on the planet and after it they show their skin getting extremely black like you get from burning but it doesn't follow it skin colour was changing throughout the film ,anyone knows why? Or was it just camera angles?
I’m not trying to discard your idea but I think Instead of remaking it they should try and make their own Movie that is subtly inspired by it. On the silver globe is a one hit wonder.
I agree with you. I think the term "remake" is a bit loaded. I probably should have used the term "adaptation."
10:25 work politics as in real life politcs, bc of the political danger in the dpeut cms notion; the point is he personally was a hardliner and didn't like it and saw it as a threat to the govt and he had the stick which was administratively important
Regarding things I'm clear about-
Also, wrong eagle and colour, for the PRL period it should be a crownless eagle on a cinnabar background (u can look up the prl eagle logo); the eagle's generald esign (with a crown) comes from 1927 (thought it was histrocially inspired) therefore using it to refer to Partition-era Poland is inaccurate.
Lol
Where’s the film print? What’s the film stock?
Give me like 10 years and I'll do it
The only person that could make a remake would be Terrence Malick
Only bad movies need remaking
noooooo never wtf noooo
Anyone know where the documentary can be watched?
Why do people always want to remake good or even great movies? The hubris...philistines one and all. Here's an idea...pick a crap movie and try making it better. That's at least a challenge, that's a noble pursuit.
ok this film is soooooo easy to find tho it's literally on youtube
Do we really need to have this remade? For Michael Bay to put "more and bigger explosions" or Colin Trevorrov add "maximum amount of dinosaurs". Or maybe we need to boost it like Tarkowski's/Lem's visions where with George Clooney? Nope!
