I hope these never stop, and people continue to show up for these. This is YOUR THING Tri! And you’re so good at it! Keep it up man!
Was a great podcast! Loved how he approached his content and LOVED what he said about path of building. Path of Building is not needed for experimenting and I have had way more fun trying out things blindly. There are plenty of interactions you can't learn unless you are testing things in game. Instant fan of Jungroan!
PoB isn't needed for people with the time to make costly mistakes for sure, while I mostly enjoyed it without it sometimes damage would nosedive for reasons I couldnt work out putting me off trying something out there with my build so I like PoB allowing me to 'test' things without hours of farming back to square one. Waiting for an economy reset to jump back in cause ended up bricking 2 lvl 80's with stupid build attempts 😂
Never fully sat through a Jung stream but I like bro a lot. I thought he had a super analytic strat for making broken builds, but he's legit just trying stuff out like the rest of us lol this was a nice change of pace
Cool talk and a very interesting perspective to shed light on. I'm really enjoying this series of interviews. I especially liked the positive note Jung ended on: Yes sometimes patch notes are throwing a wrench into your system, but it's much healthier to see that as a challenge to break the next best thing rather that sink into a mind state of doom and gloom.
I agree with Jung, thanks for what you're doing. These interviews are great. And in general, your enthusiasm is infectious. Just stop calling people "you butt!" Haven't heard it in a few weeks, which is good. I suggest you keep it that way.
gotta lot of respect for this guy, he gets good and owns games like a true nerd, i can tell he enjoys breaking numbers and seeing the biggest crits, while enjoying a difficult challent at the same time.
I've heard of Jungroan in passing, but never consumed his stuff. This was a great introduction to him, for those of us who are new and unfamiliar with him.
The D3 comment (and the GW1 slip) point to a universal fact. A hardcap burst damage constraint in development monster side produces some of the best mechanical depth options or forces the devs to suffer/admit their lack of skill (as Actiblizz often showed off). And it should apply to bosses, even their ultimate moves like the arbiter flame tunnels and fryingpan ring assuming a proportional investment has been made to defenses (as in, you dedicate a solid 80% of your passive skill tree on reducing enemy damage and amping EHP), resulting in a slow clash of titans just as a full glass build should have the proportional time reward in a "hp side david vs goliath while damage side meeting of peers" case.
The idea of playing a game and just "seeing the numbers and the skill" compared with noticing the environmentals is a big difference in how/why folks play. IMHO, the ambiance of this game is great, though I never played POE, so I'm still connecting with the lore, but the graphics and sound are incredible. The bloom effects are wild on a 4090.
Re: "PvE" balance...one of the benefits of "tank" classes in other games is the ability to keep the attention of a boss, so that the DPS can focus on not standing in the green/purple/fire on the floor while executing their combos.
Thanks for the podcast. I said the same thing a while ago as Jung, for the last 12 years I would've been watching USA News as my favorite drama TV show if I didn't live here and it wasn't actually affecting my life. All of this is so ridiculous
Tri you mentioned that you can't think of an issue regarding the target dummy but have you thought of server capacity? It might be a reason too. As i write this the POE2 site/trade is down and i think we should pressure them more on upgrading that part as a higher priority and for second to fix all the perfomance issues in game before focusing so much on nerfing classes etc.
from the little i remember from devs, they are kind of afraid that it would take too much work, cause they imagine you would need a fully customizable dummy, so people can test on white mobs, magic, rare, bosses, pinacle, and then you want to test mobs with certain mods, bosses with mods, etc..
Great cast. I'll also recommend mace. I started a warrior on Dec 6th and got to maps using dual 2-hand maces. The basic attack is the one I use for main damage. About halfway through campaign, I started un-spec'ing defense passives and later ditched the shield. Slower, fun gameplay.
I used to dislike this channel, especially pre PoE2 release due to reasons often parroted then. But you've turned me around with the work since release, it has been great and now I'm staying subscribed. Fantatic interview, once again.
Jung seems like a very chill and eloquent guy. I hadn't interacted with his content that much before but a lot of the highlight channels and general community discourse around him paint him as some sort of supervillain, which is totally undeserved imo.
I'm fine with losing xp on death after a certain level. I'm fine with the one portal system. But pls give me another shot at whatever mechanic was on the map 😩
So glad to hear someone being honest & ranking PoE2 as like a 7.5 outta 10. How many people got their best gear from trading b/c crafting is a waste of currency? Progress grinds to a halt in mapping & just turns into currency speed farming in order to buy power. There's always a fear of random 1-shots, & the punishment for death is ridiculously harsh. The game mode & the trials are what people didn't like to do in PoE1, but now they simp for it in PoE2. And if you're playing on console... god have mercy on your soul the game runs so bad.
You really aren't buying power, since all of the items you are buying are crafted or found by other players. I've been selling some items lately and have made some currency from it. It doesn't take too much trial and error to craft some good items. All you need is the right base piece. Trial of the sekhemas needs work for sure though. People need their ascendencies, so having a system that makes certain builds useless early is not good.
Mercenary Mace Witchhunter with Zealous Inquisition Stampede + Bleed Hammer of the Gods, combo Seismic Cry, Leap Slam, Resonating Shield, Stampede, Shield Charge. A lot of fun
Super nice podcast. Training dummies would be nice but for real build-testing we would need an NPC that "trains" with us. Both Doryani and the Vaal Priestess are capable fighters in the lore, they should be able to take a hit xD
As a player that's new to actually loving end game in an ARPG as complex as POE2, it's interesting to hear all these number guys be interested in the numbers instead of mechanics and game feel. I hated math in school and it takes a lot to make numbers even remotely interesting to me. This game does a good job of it though.
those shield guys on the dreadnought need a rework, they pile up on the narrow bridges and you cant damage them from the front so some builds get cucked super hard
hey I recently saw one of your videos where you mentioned you will have another interview in February, please i beg you to ask a question about the skin prices. What i mean by that. Path of Exile got insane high skin prices, most full armor sets cost 45€ and some up to 89€ The despair armour pack + back costs: 148€, this is insane. I love to buy skins and i spend huge cash in games like league and i know a lot of other people do so too. I am sure if skin would cost around 20-30€ for a full armour pack WAY more people would purchase them and in the end they would make a win even with lower prices. I would really appreciative if you could ask them if they would be open to test out a skin pack with a lower price to see if it will sell more then the average. I hope you will be able to fit in this question i know i am not alone with this issue
I'm really hoping with the other six characters the new ones that they drop 1 every 2 months or something like that instead of just dropping them all at once.
I don't think they should have nerfed the gorilla. I think any time you can't beat a boss. You need to backtrack and level up and farm for better gear. Until you can . I ran SSF All 6 characters 1 ascendancy for each one through to cruel, it just takes time.
on bossing: MMO boss design is WRONG, PoE is not turn based or tab-target, boss fight should not be pattern recognition and state-machine based, it should be a dance with the boss, boss should react to what you do, if you play aggressive, boss should focus on dodging you, if you play defensive, boss should try to break your stance, if you escape to heal, boss should pressure you MMO bossing is most boring when your input are action-realtime based i can't believe that's what jung is suggesting; no wonder everyone wants to build for one shotting bosses, they are not interested in the challenge, hence why they want pattern based bossing so they can turn off their brain and one keep ose shotting things, skill less
When ppl spend so long in the base game that they can play it with their eyes closed then HC offers a new challenge. IMO, its primarly the no lifes and content creators that will enjoy HC. If you have a career, relationship, or family that needs cared for then softcore is actually the only choice.
I didn't find cruel to be overly easy. I think it was easier then the first 3 acts on normal but killing bosses in 3 seconds was definitely not my experience. I actually found the campaign to be easier with my warrior then my sorc. I'm using arc as my main skill so maybe that why, but I know bosses aren't rolling over and dying for me that quick. Mobs do melt tho, but I still have to pay attention as I don't have much ES stacked yet. And I guess to be fair tho I crafted alot more on my warrior cause it was my first PoE experience and I was enjoying it. But my 2nd time around, after playing for 60 hours already I didn't even bother to craft many magic items because it just doesn't feel good and it's just a waste of currency.
