Good advice. Something you can do to fine tune your fertilizer composition is to test your soil. Be sure to check to see if a qualified individual has independently verified that the kit you are going to use provides accurate results. Then, you can add only what you need.

I just started a vegetable garden in south west Florida. I am starting out as a complete newbie to gardening.
Kind of a weird question maybe-- but because Florida winters are still viable for growing is there ever a time where it's best to start over with my beds? How do you know when it's time to throw some cardboard on and start from scratch?
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.

Can you put miracle-gro liquid plant food to feed plants on a vegetable garden bed?

Yes. It's basic and not organic but it works

Do you ever add any minerals such as rock phosphate or bone meal? I've heard that our soils typically have lots of phosphate naturally occurring so we really don't need to add any. Also do you lime any of your beds? Here on the west coast our soils tend toward being acidic so for brassicas I usually lime my bed a few weeks before planting out seedlings.

I do mineralize my soil about every 2 years just ahead of getting my warm season crops in the beds. There is a soil provider close to me that I like that offers a composted blend that includes local granite dust and some native soil that includes other minerals. I mix in about an inch of that into each bed and my plants really respond very well. I recall the first time I did that I was really amazed at the difference that first year.
On the lime, I would add lime if needed per a soil test. But my beds have so much organic matter and compost, they tend to be slightly alkaline so no lime is needed. But it's a great way to raise the pH when necessary.
