    Having the thrower repeat the weight call is a great idea. My team just started doing this after a verbal back-board vs back-four debacle a couple of weeks ago.

    Great advice including the repeat of info by the thrower.

    This info is good to know for me as a fan ... observing a team's execution keeps me on the edge of my seat, mostly, because every shot matters.

    Great instructional videos. For this instruction, it would be good to explain the difference between the last 4 take out weights. A quick description of control, normal, firm and peel would be helpful (although probably most people understand the what peel weight is.

      Good idea!
      Control (normally 10.5 seconds between the 2 hog lines)
      Normal - 9.5 seconds
      Firm - 8.5 seconds
      Peel - 7.5 seconds
      That what my team does... every team is going to be different depending on the skills and limitations of the players.
      I talk about it a bit in the video about what different hit weights looks like. th-cam.com/video/AqTLKlGemZ0/w-d-xo.html

    Great Stuff, Jamie! One of the clearest explanations I've seen in a long time. Request for another time - a video showing a given shot at all the different weights? Lots of curlers, especially new ones, learn from seeing how fast the rock is moving and how the other rocks react to being hit. I know it's not perfect, but maybe it helps more than "Board weight is when the rock stops at the boards" - Thoughts?

    New curler (and skip) here. How do you signal that you want a guard?

    Another great video! It's also pretty cool that you wear a cross necklace in your videos! Best of luck this fall/winter.

    Hey Jamie, my curling team has gained a lot of success due to some of your videos! Thank you so much! But we have a question in regards to equipment. How often should broom pads be changed?

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The normal brush heads last quite a long time. Some recreational curlers could get away with using one for the whole season… especially since you can clean them and use them again.
      The WCF approved covers from this year don’t last as long. The material isn’t as durable so we end up changing those quite a bit more often. Depends what the budget can afford! Some of the top team, their front ends will change them every game.

      Thank you so much! Is there a brush company you prefer over others? Things to look out for when getting new brushes?

    How would these signals vary if the skip was wheelchair-bound? I'm our team's #3 - and the skip is in a wheelchair (a little more work for me as I'm sweeping in place of the skip, but the amount is negligible).

  • @supersupersocco

    and signals for draw weights as well? T-line etc

    • @caitlinalexis6783
      @caitlinalexis6783 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SuperSocco wouldn't that be determined when the skip shows you where they want the stone?
      the hand signals are only important to know the weight of a take out, all other weights are shown by the broom

    • @supersupersocco
      @supersupersocco 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I was thinking about a T-line weight or back-12 tap-back, for example

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes good question! When we are tapping a rock or playing a split we don't really have a hand signal for t-line or back line.... i normally just yell that down or run my broom along the t-line or back-line to show what i want.

    • @supersupersocco
      @supersupersocco 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks Jamie! at the Brier I saw Howard hold his broom up horizontally with both hands wide on the broom to signify T-line so I was curious how many skips would do this.

    Jamie- I am trying to tidy up our team's pregame-practice/DSC routine....any advise?

      Biggest thing is to map out the ice. Whats the ice to draw to the button, whats the ice for a corner guard and how much do hits curl? After that you need to focus on winning the last stone draw to get the hammer. Really break down that draw path with rocks and with sweeping. The person throwing the LSD should have at least 3 practice draws with sweepers judging the stone.

      @@CurlUpWithJamie Thank you so much for the tips! Headed to Club Nationals next week and want to keep those LSD's down!!
