the 800$ high ends all look quality based on reviews the VRMs almost don't heat at all at least not with the 24-32 cores (however good the TRX40 are I don't understand how you're going to cool the 64+ cpus)
Unfortunately they messed a bit the memory cooling (pad placement), but they saved it by sticking thermal pads on the back to use the backplate. Let MSI do the board design and Sapphire the cooling. It looks weird on the MSI card when there is a thermal pad on the memory cooling plate which barely touches one heat pipe which goes across it. What is its purposes? Transferring heat into nothing?
This beast dont need dual bios tbh this baby boost way over its 1980 to 2050+ putting just power limit in afterburner to 30% this baby can draw 270W at best. Absolute monster and worth every penny.

So, Strix keep being the best PCB. Could you Check some info? I used 2 5700XT REFERENCE cards, and some friends too. Each card reports different target clocks, my first one from XFX reports 2074mhz in watt or msi, just opening and not touching anything. My second one from ASUS reports 1989mhz. Swaping bios doesnt effect the clocks. Another MSI report 2030 I guess and other XFX reports 2020mhz. I think its related to ASIC quality which reflect on GPU CORE CLOCK TARGET.
that's normal for all GPUs that use non fixed boost systems. Cards with better silicon run higher clocks. You can buy 10 of the same model of 1080Ti and they will all run slightly different clocks. Same for Kepler, Maxwell, Pascal, VEGA and Turing cards.
Hey Buildzoid, how would higher Z capacitors affect the quality of voltage supplied to the chip? What are the typical capacitor ESRs on the 5700/XT? I figure 9mOhm is fine for extreme overclocking past 2.2ghz on these bad boys.
I was wondering if you could help me figure out the problem with my MSI RX 5700 XT MECH OC, When installing this video card it works OK on the desktop but when I run a game the power consumption never go any higher than 105 watts. (card has a 225 watt TDP) then when playing the game it will crash (eventually never using more than 105 watts, then after the crash when I check GPUZ, the memory bandwidth getting cut down to 50% so from 448gbps to 224gbps. Could this be a fault with the IR35217 or is there something else I can replace. Thank you for your time. Sean. specs are asus rog strix z590, i5 11400f, 32gb ram 650 watt 80+gold psu.
Do some sbcs, because I'm sure some have pretty bad components, I have had two raspberry pi 4 die, development is extremely important, but the quality of a board is important too, I never had a pi3 or a zero die, something is wrong with the pi 4, some these little components I think might not be up to job.
hi I saw the price of the GPU it's quite expansive, so as I see your review i wonder if it's the best choice for OC. I mind, is the sapphire RX 5700XT good enough to OC or is there a real big deal to buy this card ?
Check the tech powerup reviews they achieved better overclock with their MSI sample which proformed better than their sapphire sample. How this proforms depends on the silicon lottery that you buy.

Finally a 10min video in 25min, buildzoid is back.
Yet another 5700XT breakdown and yet another like from me.
Under 30 minutes, I commend the concise breakdown.

Quite a nice card, thanks for doing this one BZ

@buildzoid also memory manufacturers being different can be a problem as well.

Thanks to you! As awesome as always I need MOAR RX 5700 overview because Zen and Turing overclocking is obviously dead...
TRX40 boards when?
Be cool if you do detail example with taking all voltage controls by change this controller. It will be nice lesson for starters enthusiasts :)

Do all Blower RX 5700 XT's from MSI/ASUS/Gigabyte/Powercolor etc. use the same MOSFETs and Caps as the AMD Reference PCB?
I think so

This is funny you can see greasy residue on HALF of the top two RAM chips. From where they cheaped out on those thermal pads that gamer nexus showed.

Wow this card is really efficient
I added this card to my buy when funds are available list.
So did he never do the reference pcb breakdown? Am I missing it?
It's on GamersNexus

There's quite a lot of ceramic capacitors on this card too.

The PCBs on these Navi cards don't look very crowded, why aren't there any small form factor 5700/XT cards? Is it just marketing?
probably runs too hot to make a compact heatsink for it.
U have msi mech oc and it is very small

does the red devil have dragon pictures on the chips? I think not. this is your huckleberry
