If we want to convert a non directional relay into directional relay, we give vt voltage to relay, what will its effect on it, how can it changed its function. Please explain
Dear gurpreet singh, the possibility of a change between directional & non-directional overcurrent depends on the relay type and the manufacturer. With our test sets you can test both, non-directional and directional overcurrent relays and many other types. For non-directional relays only current is needed. The relay decides according to its protection settings at which current level it should trip. For directional relays the phase voltage is needed to decide whether the fault is in forward or reverse direction. This will be decided according to the phase angle difference between the voltage and the current. The different relay manufacturers have different algorithms to decide whether the fault is forward or reverse. Best regards, Your OMICRON team
