Just built it but ended up using 12 Retaining Wall Stones for each level. So a total of 36 Stones but I think the stones are a little bit bigger now at Lowe’s. It did cost me $114 to do the 3 tier fire pit with all the stones, sand, pea gravel and the lava rock. The stones were $2.38 a piece at Lowe’s and the sand was $6 and the pea gravel was $6 and I found that tractor supply had lava rocks for $8 a bag and I used 2 bags. This is still a way cheaper version then anything at Lowe’s or Home Depot. You will pay closer to $300 for premade fire pit and you will still need to buy the sand, pea gravel and lava rock. Thanks for posting this video and hope this helps the next person out!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loving our new fire pit! It’s a beauty!
Thanks so much man. I’ve been putting this project off for about a year now. My last steel fire pit rusted out. Me, my wife, and my 4 yr old son did this today. Had little difference. We used 11 stone for each level, and had to use 2 bags of sand and lava rocks. We did 4 layers, so a total of 44 stone. With 2022 inflation it was $2.58 a stone, and 2 bags of sand, pea gravel, and 2 bags of lava rocks (around $6 each bag). Came out to a total of $135. We had a great time, and I was glad the whole family could be apart of it. Thanks again man. You’re the real MVP.
Built mine last 2 days. Looks awesome! Thanks so much for the advice! I would recommend digging out about 3-6 inches outside of the circle. It's easier to set the stones farther out, get the ground level, and eek the stones in a bit at a time. Then use the removed soil to backfill the outside of the ring.
I’m looking at building picnic tables and fire pits on several of our vacation rental properties and I’ve watched so so many DIY videos - taking notes the whole way. I had to double watch this one as I found myself just giggling as the instructions. Very good video with all details needed, and not boring to watch! Double plus!!
I'm doing yard renovation and found some of these exact bricks left in the yard so they are now going to be included in my fire pit. Thanks for the tips!
I found it very difficult to pay attention to your instructions...due to the one liners that kept me laughing...all n all great fire pit and you kept it entertaining...great video!!!
I have to be honest, I usually don’t like corny jokes when watching DYI videos, HOWEVER, this video in its entirety made me smile! Great job. One of the best videos on TH-cam regardless of the category.
Excellent video filled with pertinent information for the novice or like ourselves builders of many flowerbeds but no experience with a much needed fire pit. He has an an excellent sense of humor which encourages me to want to listen to the end to obtain all essential info. Thank you so much for your production.
4 years post viewing- 😅 you made this so FUN - entertaining to watch - @ 110 lbs. I am gonna be happy to take on this project & I'll be 'tamping' dirt with every pound I have 😂 thank you SO much for sharing!!! 👍🏾
I made this following your instructions and it took only about two hours!! It looks AMAZING and the prices you states were 100% accurate!! I am sooooo happy with the entire process!! A million "thank yous" for saving me a ton of money from buying a pre-built unit 😊😊
Okay, this is too perfect. Super simple, super efficient. Your jokes are killing me, your dry delivery rejuvenated me. THEN, after you say that you added the links for the products and when I click them, each and every one is a search on Amazon for the tool, like "shovel". You're a beautiful person.
Oh my gosh, LOVED the narrator's comments and sense of humor!!! I'm going to try the two tier!!! Thank you for a super enjoyable video and wonderful instructions!!!
Thanks so much for this! We made ours today (my wife requested it for Mother’s Day) and it was awesome! The Home Depot bricks we got would have required more than ten bricks to make a “perfect” match for all the seams, but we made it work with ten. After all, it’s just a fire pit! Tutorial was so funny my kid actually wanted to help, ha!
Thank you for your easy to follow Fire Pit Install. I did it in a weekend, which included pulling plants, weeds and leveling out the area; however, building the actual fire pit using your directions, only took me a couple of hours by myself.
I built this fire pit last week. I used the red retaining wall stones and which was 2.18 each at Lowe's. Total for three layers was about $86. From checking out at Lowe's to finishing up and ready to start the first fire took me exactly three hours with no help. It was easy, but it was also a good workout.
We made this yesterday and it turned out awesome. We actually started off instructing our two young adult sons, about half way through we turned it over to them while we reclined in the house. Only thing they did wrong was decided they wanted to do 11 stones per row, not the agreed upon 10 so we had to send them back to the store for 6 more stones. We are very pleased with the end results. Great directions
Hubby and I just made one!! We went the $100 version and used 12 stones instead of 10. We made the base grey, the middle red, and the top row grey again. It looks great! we are going to christen it tonight! Your video was fun and inspiring and yes simple. Thanks! We would send you a picture but don't know how to.
Had my wife and I laughing so hard, she said "I feel like I need to hang out with this guy" 😄 We are excited to put in our firepit and show our neighbors who controls fire 🔥
Really enjoyed this video! I am going to be building a firepit for my wife's birthday this weekend. I was a little anxious about making sure I got every detail right, but your humor made this so much more of a fun experience. Looking forward to building this week!
This is on my list for this month. The only thing I'll do differently is I'll use some of the extra dirt to level the blocks. Also, I'll put the rest of the dirt in my compost pile. Great video. Your humor is greatly appreciated!
I live in an apartment and this dude had me busting up so much it motivated me to make a pit... Hopefully the apartment management doesn't kick me out 😂😂
This video is so helpful. I just moved into a home that has a two-tier firepit and it's in awful condition. I was going to start from scratch but it looks pretty easy to just clean it up, and add the sand and rocks to make it look new!
I watched a ton of videos before I decided this was the most practical. Allot of it was that I already had the bricks from something else I took apart. It turned out amazing.
( new update 6/16/23) still looking good. Ashes get scooped out every 6 months. Compost or refill. 26-27 inch inside diameter (not a circle). Up side down, down side up each way gives you a different look ( we prefer the not normal look its a badge at the StatUpBox team 😂😂) Firepit in action here is a picture (5/16/20) instagram.com/p/B8usAaGHwaD/?igshid=a1hhs0hvgw5s and here is a video (2/18/20) instagram.com/p/B8uqC0sn-1T/?igshid=1rstgbrfgf7oq
This was entertaining! I laughed many times. I laughed hardest at Christmas weight and the 'the last thing you want to do on a sunny day is die.' The instructions are easy, the price is right. Thank you! I'll try to report back after we have built it.
To be honest you only really need the retaining blocks. No shovel, nothing, just make 2 or 3 layers. Throw wood in and let the fire burn the grass off. BOOM you're done !
Yeah it's like, let's take level ground, dig it up with a shovel, make it uneven, and then "try to level it" out again. Lol. Why do all that extra work! ~ Just a blonde.
Needs better ventilation to allow more oxygen (fuel) in. Depending on the height you build, I'd remove one block from the middle or bottom level and space those out evenly. Otherwise it's more likely to choke the fire out.
I love this!! My stepfather built a fire pit for my mom and she’s let it get messy. I will definitely use this video to help fix it up for her. Thank you!
Thanks for the awesome and entertaining instructions! We did a beautiful job on our space to you. We made our has a tiny bit bigger but we absolutely love it!
At first, I was looking forward to seeing how to make a fire pit, but as the video went on, I looked more forward to hearing the side jokes you were making. The Leaning Tower of Pisa and fire hydrant jokes had me crying from laughter. 🤣 Thanks for being informative and entertaining! 😎👍
Thanks!
Thank you. ❤️😊👍❤️
@@StatUpBoxwhat are the dimensions of the pit? Would like to make sure I have enough space before buying anything
I came to learn how to build a fire pit. I stayed for the dad jokes.
😁😂
Best part of the video!
the jokes are awesome
I just shared this video and said, watch out, my dad wrote all the jokes and they are non stop!!! haha Good stuff
Mister J same here 🤣
I was cracking up the whole time 😂 10/10 tutorial!
I just did this this afternoon as a Mother’s Day gift to myself and it came out great.
You should post a picture of it🙂
👍🏾👍🏾
Cool. I'm doing it next weekend when I have time. Thanks for letting us know it turned out great.
I believe I’ll do this myself. I already have the wall bricks.

That’s an awesome Idea. I was thinking of doing the project myself. Definitely asking the wife and kids to help out so we can enjoy this together.
“Now take your wheel barrel of dirt and look around your neighbors yard to see where you gonna dump that”🤣

Stay home. Thats not an essential item. It doesn’t say go to Home Depot for home projects on the news.
Been crushing it at HD with curbside pickup.

Love the vid. Very informative, professional and definitely not boring. Thanks for the great steps.

The daaaaamn jokes 😂. “You could use a hammer, or your fist to level out the stones” lmao
I totally enjoyed the humor. Great and easy instructions. I will build mine tomorrow. Thanks
