On the other side of the Hudson it's the same with Jersey Central articles. They're issued, they're purchased, and they disappear into NJ basements never to see the light of day again for decades! I paid more than I wanted to for a Lionel CNJ Camelback at Greenberg show 'cause you just don't see them anywhere! (Several months later I paid $100 less for a Ontario & Western Camel, I guess it's a "Who cares?" item. Another story.) Anyway, congratulations on that G5 aquisition! This means you've got one more G5 than the Railroad Museum of Long Island's got! AND one more than the Strasburg! I DID luck into three "Holy Grail" articles myself this past year, a Public Service PCC from "trainz," a Philadelphia Transportation Company (predecessor to SEPTA) PCC at York, and two weeks ago at Tiny Tim's I found a "used as new" conventional-only Harry Potter set, just what I was looking for simple and basic. The wife's a Harry fan and is VERY impressed, it's under the Christmas tree as we speak. A very (belated) Merry Christms to you and yours RJ, and a Happy New Year!
Not sure what your plans are for the "owl-eye " portholes on the LIRR coaches, but our friends in the model ship hobby have great porthole covers that give a really nice finished look.
You swerved fairly close. While the Long Island Railroad operated independantly it was a wholley-owned subsidiary of the PRR and as such used PRR steam locomotive designs which carried the Keystone plate. I've seen photos of K4 Pacifics operating on the LIRR but the photos didn't show if they had LIRR tender markings or PRR ones. I don't know how many K4's made it out to the Island or how long they stayed when they did. All the photos I've seen of G5's I've seen operating on the LIRR show them marked for that 'road.

Just a Christmas wreath, they are doll house-sized. You can get a big bag of them on amazon for fairly cheap and they are close to scale
