"This death of the auto tune" "My Big brother was b.i.g's brother" "I used to print out Nas raps and tape them up on my wall, my niggas thought they was words, but they was pictures I saw". Legendary
first thing i thought when i seen this interview "my big brother was BIGGS brother used to be dame and biggs brotther who was jiggz brother who was no id friend no id was my mentor now let the story begin
No I.D. is a Chicago legend! One of my favorite producers ever. His beats for Common, Kanye West, Nas, Vince Staples, Jhené Aiko, Vic Mensa, & Jay-Z are too dope.
Absolute legend, Resurrection is one of my all time favorite albums. Him and Common really put Chicago on the map for hip hop and we gotta thank him for teaching Kanye a lot about how to produce. It’s cool that Kanye still gives him credit for being the one that helped him get to where he’s at now.
corey bendolph 444,is not slept on,it's nominated for best album,Resonable Doubt was not nominated.thats a whole different situation. 4.44 don't appear to.be appreciated because now music is so much more accessible, that people will appreciate a music moment and be on to the next, real fast. but trust me those that appreciate great music will revisit 4.44
"I like studying people from afar more than, uh...the relationships get a little bright. Like the sun in your eyes..." That parallel shows how humble he is and I can relate to it. I went to school with Kanye for a year, when he graduated 8th grade at Vanderpoel. I never met him personally but I remember that brother's shine, just passing by in the hallway, lbs. I get that statement.
Standing too close, ala relationships, can definitely skew your perception of a person. I don't get the "yes man" vibe from him at all. Love hearing a veteran still talking about self improvement via studying instead self proclamations and titles.
i love his style of conversation .. in turn , how they let him speak & take his time with his thoughts & articulation . if this was drink champs , 2 hours 45 mins & he wouldn’t have gotten through the break down of how he got hov on board for the album
I told my mama I was on the come up She said "you going to school I'll give you a summer" Then she met NO ID and gave me his number Ten years later she driving a Hummer - Kanye
Real music isn't 4 everybody. Hov told u a long time ago... "how do u rate music that ppl with nothing relate to it, I help them see they way thru it, not u." 4:44 is beyond #Classic.
This was therapy. Thank you, the gems about life in the video are so deep. When he said give the kids what they want sorta like pimpin, my mind went straight to Dave Chappelle's Bird Revelation Iceberg Slim Pimp Story. Give the kids what they want so you can exploit them. It hit me. They both are breaking the cycle of exploitation we all buy into to. This video deserves a Peabody award. Thank you. Thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart Thank you.
I agree what No ID says about "the kids". I'm 27 and my friends/peers loved 4:44 and when rappers like 50 cent talking about kids I mean maybe middle school/high school but ppl I know in their 20s could relate.
One of hot 97s best interviews frfr. Showing more love to the Producers for sure. Mad love for No I.D. & Guru. Truly inspirations to the HipHop culture and Music in general. #Respect thanks for this hot 97.
Damn.....I remember No ID on Honda’s album back in the late 90’s.....talk about staying strong in the game. For anyone who don’t know. Check out DJ Honda’s first album from 96.....so many bangers on there by hip hops finest.
+Nana Gyambibi He been mentoring Ye since Ye was like a teenager...I assume Ye copied a lot of his behaviors, could also be that Chicago thing they have in common!
One word .. Maybe two ... "Legend" - "culture orator" ... Reminds me of the good work of other fellow OG hip hop techs like guru, timberland , mannie fresh , pharell & others .. He a real one .
Mann this is crazy because I was just listening to Vince Staple’s Summer 2006 album last night and NoID’s sound has alotttt of influence on Kanye’s. From the sampling, to the off the wall drums even to the weird ass overdrive Autotune.. Kanye just brought it upfront to mainstream
When I found Common's Resurrection album I couldn't stop listening to it! Still one of my favorites to play when I take trips!!! NO ID made a classic with COM! Great interview too! 50 Cent was wrong about 444! hahaha
legendary interview and definitely glad rosenberg could be there because their juan epstein interview a few years ago was just as dope. for whatever reason hot97 gets so much negativity for their interviews, i def prefer this instead of listening to some of the syndicated stations discussing nonsense.
Brother really studied the Master, Mr. Quincy Jones, you can tell by his homage to the Guru Mr Jones,, no misunderstanding, in studying a couple of facets of Mr. Jones career alone!!! Much respect to the DJ's for bringing great commentary, then allowing the man to elaborate in hospital own way,,,, great professionalism,,, all around the Mic/table,,,,, great job people!
No id is a legend no doubt! His debut album accept your own and be yourself is a classic must have!! His collaborations with common are stellar bar none.
Great interview, especially that point about sexual healing on What’s going on. I understand that capitalism driving all thing but when art is pure I think the culture appreciates it more
This was perfect to listen to while Cooking and then Eating, I’m Fed well, Mentally and Physically and now I can’t keep my Eyes Open lol Everything Calm #NoIDMyMentor
Michalel not only had ideas but he would come to the studio sessions with Quincy with songs that were skeletons that had melodies and all that. And he would tell the players what and how to play on certain records so he deserved his co-prod credit
That line "I know how to score people's lives now." That's an important statement, and that is wisdom.
NO ID MY MENTOR SO LET THE STORY BEGIN
"This death of the auto tune" "My Big brother was b.i.g's brother" "I used to print out Nas raps and tape them up on my wall, my niggas thought they was words, but they was pictures I saw". Legendary

“An album to me is measured by the worst song not the best song”
Word.
I respect kanye for that
Album is truly the definition of a classic.
44:4 is Definitely a Slept on Classic that like Jay's "Reasonable Doubt" wont be appreciated until years & Albums Later
i wouldn't say classic but it's a really good album
corey bendolph for real. Such a great album
and America's Gangsta when that album dropped no one liked it years later its always mentioned in JAY-Z's top 5 best albums
corey bendolph 444,is not slept on,it's nominated for best album,Resonable Doubt was not nominated.thats a whole different situation. 4.44 don't appear to.be appreciated because now music is so much more accessible, that people will appreciate a music moment and be on to the next, real fast. but trust me those that appreciate great music will revisit 4.44
444 is a 6/10 imo nothing amazing just like Magna Carta
"I like studying people from afar more than, uh...the relationships get a little bright. Like the sun in your eyes..."

No ID is YODA, he pops up at the right time a give you the music force then you're on ya own.
Sampling should be a college course.
Nana Gyambibi it is lol, 9th wonder teaches a course at Duke
No.
werd
@D H wtf does that mean sampling is still making your own music
@@apollospyrol7168 not really
Very wise sounding guy...the grandfather of the Chicago Hip-Hop soul sample!
this is one their best interviews ever!!! Real proud of my Chicago peeps right now.
Ok. Dopest interview of 2018 thus far. I barely listen to Hot97 anymore but had to listen to No I.D. This is AMAZING!!
No ID's real name is Dion. . .MIND BLOWN!
Like playing a game of scrabble or putting together letters in a bowl of alphabet soup.
Man sampled his own name🔥
i love his style of conversation .. in turn , how they let him speak & take his time with his thoughts & articulation . if this was drink champs , 2 hours 45 mins & he wouldn’t have gotten through the break down of how he got hov on board for the album
uncle nytz facts
uncle nytz faxx
uncle nytz you’re absolutely right 😂
We need more people like No ID in hip hop. He is part of the group of people who keep the art and culture alive.
"...No ID my mentor now let the story begin..." - Kanye West on Big Brother, Graduation
AG E-Ben years later J Cole on Let Nas Down, “No ID my mentor now let the story begin”
yeah ;)
It's hard knock life to sell out XD
I told my mama I was on the come up
She said "you going to school I'll give you a summer"
Then she met NO ID and gave me his number
Ten years later she driving a Hummer - Kanye
AG E-Ben super Dope Classic Album
this man deserves more credit
Real music isn't 4 everybody. Hov told u a long time ago... "how do u rate music that ppl with nothing relate to it, I help them see they way thru it, not u." 4:44 is beyond #Classic.
Naw it was a lack luster album , beats was trash lyrics was nothing but a big snooze feast. The Album was a lion without any teeth
AOCLIVE 💩💩
AOCLIVE dude you’re wack
Can't step in my pants

“No I.D mi mentor, que la historia comience”
Kanye West ✊🏽

One of hot 97’s best interviews
i appreciate the pace and respect in this interview
Bruh No ID just literally gave out his formula. Yall paying attention or nah?
Jack Jillz this is the best interview of the mind of a genius / true artist
And the fact tht they won none shows the true depth of his brilliance
Jack Jillz #RealTalk 👍
Jack Jillz Fact. Also, madlib been utilizing this formula since 97
Formula, at what time? I didnt hear one but still a good watch.
I agree what No ID says about "the kids". I'm 27 and my friends/peers loved 4:44 and when rappers like 50 cent talking about kids I mean maybe middle school/high school but ppl I know in their 20s could relate.
Joy A I’m around ur age and relate also, they were speaking more so about people in their early 20s and teens
I was 23 but I could relate, and I loved it
what a genius. i admire this mans humility.
without him there would be no kanye
Ebro, 'Berg this was one of the best interviews to date.love this conversation.
He speaks and looks like he lives and breaths hip hop
GREAT INTERVIEW! , last part about MJ calling Kanye to ask him about his grammy jacket is crazy !
yeah that last five minutes is dope.. .
Great interview with good vibes. What's dope is that No ID is so humble. Well done.
So many gems in this one. I feel like I struck gold
The absolute legend 🙏🏾 One of the people I’m trying usurp with producing 🙏🏾
Resurrection is Low-Key is One Of The Best Produced Hip-Hip Albums Of The Year 1994....
LivingHipHop17

Hi Key!
No I.D. personally fathered Kanye as a musical mentor
Shabazz 7:77 facts
+Shabazz 7:77 Kanye says so on the songs "Last Call" and "Big Brother"
And on his 2002 MTV interview.
And kanye is so much better, good mentors do that
R S absolutely not. But both are great
One of hot 97s best interviews frfr. Showing more love to the Producers for sure. Mad love for No I.D. & Guru. Truly inspirations to the HipHop culture and Music in general. #Respect thanks for this hot 97.

This guy No ID is wise
NO ID and Kanye West have the same mannerisms
+Nana Gyambibi He been mentoring Ye since Ye was like a teenager...I assume Ye copied a lot of his behaviors, could also be that Chicago thing they have in common!
43:53 That was a brilliant quote... Loved this interview
One word .. Maybe two ... "Legend" - "culture orator" ... Reminds me of the good work of other fellow OG hip hop techs like guru, timberland , mannie fresh , pharell & others .. He a real one .
This is one of the people I would like to be around. Just to listen to him and hear some history and get some advice.
Used to love her top is a 10 hiphop beat ever
"this art our natural resource" wow... something definitely to chew on.
Joseph awaida Black Gold

Rosenberg's interview of No ID on Juan Epstein was the greatest interview i've ever heard in my life
No I.D.’s musical brilliance is over my head. But I know he knows what he’s talking about.
Dope interview!!!!!
50 Cent was wrong about 444! hahaha
Totally do the same with resurrection
@@xlhits a classic no doubt!
the legend himself
The story about Kayne and the Michael Jackson jacket was tight
No i.d. is a legend. One of the best producers of all time
legendary interview and definitely glad rosenberg could be there because their juan epstein interview a few years ago was just as dope. for whatever reason hot97 gets so much negativity for their interviews, i def prefer this instead of listening to some of the syndicated stations discussing nonsense.
Tommie Berry Jr. - exactly
I hate it everytime NO I.D. brings that mellow wisdom then Rosenberg starts shouting his question 🤣
Awesome interview. Took it all in and learned a lot!
Brother really studied the Master, Mr. Quincy Jones, you can tell by his homage to the Guru Mr Jones,, no misunderstanding, in studying a couple of facets of Mr. Jones career alone!!! Much respect to the DJ's for bringing great commentary, then allowing the man to elaborate in hospital own way,,,, great professionalism,,, all around the Mic/table,,,,, great job people!
best interview I have heard in a while.
What Ebro says @34:00 is why 4:44 is so iconic. If you just want your music you wouldn't understand. If you care about the culture you know.
really interesting interview
This man is a genius.
rickjames21 😎👌🏼
Thumbnail looks like Jay-Z today if "he went by the fork on the road but went left"
I love 4:44 and I'm 23.
RaiJin 27 and I rock it weekly
THIS MANs way of thinking is so intriguing I can see why Jayz linked with him. He’s definitely on another LEVEL
just imagine Jay playing Donny Hathaway- Someday Will All Be Free (Legacy) around the house.
Just loooved this interview, No.Id what a gentleman-
Now this is a Genius right here.

One of the better interviews from them
Such a good interview.
Great interview, especially that point about sexual healing on What’s going on. I understand that capitalism driving all thing but when art is pure I think the culture appreciates it more
How is no one talking about Smile. It's the best song on that record. The production!!
This was perfect to listen to while Cooking and then Eating, I’m Fed well, Mentally and Physically and now I can’t keep my Eyes Open lol Everything Calm #NoIDMyMentor
Back again in 2022 just to hear those gems again. Love Dion!
Probably one of the greatest interviews ever recorded
Michalel not only had ideas but he would come to the studio sessions with Quincy with songs that were skeletons that had melodies and all that. And he would tell the players what and how to play on certain records so he deserved his co-prod credit
