"This death of the auto tune" "My Big brother was b.i.g's brother" "I used to print out Nas raps and tape them up on my wall, my niggas thought they was words, but they was pictures I saw". Legendary
first thing i thought when i seen this interview "my big brother was BIGGS brother used to be dame and biggs brotther who was jiggz brother who was no id friend no id was my mentor now let the story begin
No I.D. is a Chicago legend! One of my favorite producers ever. His beats for Common, Kanye West, Nas, Vince Staples, Jhené Aiko, Vic Mensa, & Jay-Z are too dope.
Absolute legend, Resurrection is one of my all time favorite albums. Him and Common really put Chicago on the map for hip hop and we gotta thank him for teaching Kanye a lot about how to produce. It’s cool that Kanye still gives him credit for being the one that helped him get to where he’s at now.
corey bendolph 444,is not slept on,it's nominated for best album,Resonable Doubt was not nominated.thats a whole different situation. 4.44 don't appear to.be appreciated because now music is so much more accessible, that people will appreciate a music moment and be on to the next, real fast. but trust me those that appreciate great music will revisit 4.44
Real music isn't 4 everybody. Hov told u a long time ago... "how do u rate music that ppl with nothing relate to it, I help them see they way thru it, not u." 4:44 is beyond #Classic.
"I like studying people from afar more than, uh...the relationships get a little bright. Like the sun in your eyes..." That parallel shows how humble he is and I can relate to it. I went to school with Kanye for a year, when he graduated 8th grade at Vanderpoel. I never met him personally but I remember that brother's shine, just passing by in the hallway, lbs. I get that statement.
Standing too close, ala relationships, can definitely skew your perception of a person. I don't get the "yes man" vibe from him at all. Love hearing a veteran still talking about self improvement via studying instead self proclamations and titles.
i love his style of conversation .. in turn , how they let him speak & take his time with his thoughts & articulation . if this was drink champs , 2 hours 45 mins & he wouldn’t have gotten through the break down of how he got hov on board for the album
This was therapy. Thank you, the gems about life in the video are so deep. When he said give the kids what they want sorta like pimpin, my mind went straight to Dave Chappelle's Bird Revelation Iceberg Slim Pimp Story. Give the kids what they want so you can exploit them. It hit me. They both are breaking the cycle of exploitation we all buy into to. This video deserves a Peabody award. Thank you. Thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart Thank you.
I agree what No ID says about "the kids". I'm 27 and my friends/peers loved 4:44 and when rappers like 50 cent talking about kids I mean maybe middle school/high school but ppl I know in their 20s could relate.
I told my mama I was on the come up She said "you going to school I'll give you a summer" Then she met NO ID and gave me his number Ten years later she driving a Hummer - Kanye
One of hot 97s best interviews frfr. Showing more love to the Producers for sure. Mad love for No I.D. & Guru. Truly inspirations to the HipHop culture and Music in general. #Respect thanks for this hot 97.
Damn.....I remember No ID on Honda’s album back in the late 90’s.....talk about staying strong in the game. For anyone who don’t know. Check out DJ Honda’s first album from 96.....so many bangers on there by hip hops finest.
+Nana Gyambibi He been mentoring Ye since Ye was like a teenager...I assume Ye copied a lot of his behaviors, could also be that Chicago thing they have in common!
One word .. Maybe two ... "Legend" - "culture orator" ... Reminds me of the good work of other fellow OG hip hop techs like guru, timberland , mannie fresh , pharell & others .. He a real one .
Mann this is crazy because I was just listening to Vince Staple’s Summer 2006 album last night and NoID’s sound has alotttt of influence on Kanye’s. From the sampling, to the off the wall drums even to the weird ass overdrive Autotune.. Kanye just brought it upfront to mainstream
legendary interview and definitely glad rosenberg could be there because their juan epstein interview a few years ago was just as dope. for whatever reason hot97 gets so much negativity for their interviews, i def prefer this instead of listening to some of the syndicated stations discussing nonsense.
Wow...No Id incredible interview, This was sooooo refreshingly enjoyable. It was everything that an interview should be. It had my attention, it was musically intelligent and informative. I felt like I was in the conversation as I watched. THANKS Hot 97, Ebro and your team for this one for sure. We need more of these type interviews, Its deeper for me as I see our excellence as a people, when we embrace structured and endearing communication. Its truly a beautiful thing and I feel nourished. Thanks Again .."Always A Fan Of The Music".
That line "I know how to score people's lives now." That's an important statement, and that is wisdom.
NO ID MY MENTOR SO LET THE STORY BEGIN

“An album to me is measured by the worst song not the best song”
Word.
No I.D. is a Chicago legend! One of my favorite producers ever.
His beats for Common, Kanye West, Nas, Vince Staples, Jhené Aiko, Vic Mensa, & Jay-Z are too dope.

I respect kanye for that
Album is truly the definition of a classic.
44:4 is Definitely a Slept on Classic that like Jay's "Reasonable Doubt" wont be appreciated until years & Albums Later
i wouldn't say classic but it's a really good album
corey bendolph for real. Such a great album
and America's Gangsta when that album dropped no one liked it years later its always mentioned in JAY-Z's top 5 best albums
corey bendolph 444,is not slept on,it's nominated for best album,Resonable Doubt was not nominated.thats a whole different situation. 4.44 don't appear to.be appreciated because now music is so much more accessible, that people will appreciate a music moment and be on to the next, real fast. but trust me those that appreciate great music will revisit 4.44
444 is a 6/10 imo nothing amazing just like Magna Carta
this is one their best interviews ever!!! Real proud of my Chicago peeps right now.
No ID is YODA, he pops up at the right time a give you the music force then you're on ya own.
Ok. Dopest interview of 2018 thus far. I barely listen to Hot97 anymore but had to listen to No I.D. This is AMAZING!!
Very wise sounding guy...the grandfather of the Chicago Hip-Hop soul sample!
Sampling should be a college course.
Nana Gyambibi it is lol, 9th wonder teaches a course at Duke
No.
werd
@D H wtf does that mean sampling is still making your own music
@@apollospyrol7168 not really
Real music isn't 4 everybody. Hov told u a long time ago... "how do u rate music that ppl with nothing relate to it, I help them see they way thru it, not u." 4:44 is beyond #Classic.
Naw it was a lack luster album , beats was trash lyrics was nothing but a big snooze feast. The Album was a lion without any teeth
AOCLIVE 💩💩
AOCLIVE dude you’re wack
Can't step in my pants
Can't walk in my shoes.
Bet everything you worth
You lose ya tie and ya shirt......
No ID's real name is Dion. . .MIND BLOWN!
Like playing a game of scrabble or putting together letters in a bowl of alphabet soup.
Man sampled his own name🔥
"I like studying people from afar more than, uh...the relationships get a little bright. Like the sun in your eyes..."

this man deserves more credit
One of hot 97’s best interviews
As a producer, My mind is blown over these gems 🤯
This was therapy. Thank you, the gems about life in the video are so deep. I agree what No ID says about "the kids". I'm 27 and my friends/peers loved 4:44 and when rappers like 50 cent talking about kids I mean maybe middle school/high school but ppl I know in their 20s could relate.
Joy A I’m around ur age and relate also, they were speaking more so about people in their early 20s and teens

Damn.....I remember No ID on Honda’s album back in the late 90’s.....talk about staying strong in the game. For anyone who don’t know. Check out DJ Honda’s first album from 96.....so many bangers on there by hip hops finest.

I hate it everytime NO I.D. brings that mellow wisdom then Rosenberg starts shouting his question 🤣
Dope. Real chicago right there, passing on the jems and being humble.
Thumbnail looks like Jay-Z today if "he went by the fork on the road but went left"
What Ebro says @34:00 is why 4:44 is so iconic. If you just want your music you wouldn't understand. If you care about the culture you know.
Man I dont know why it took me so long but I'm glad that I found this interview.
legendary interview and definitely glad rosenberg could be there because their juan epstein interview a few years ago was just as dope. for whatever reason hot97 gets so much negativity for their interviews, i def prefer this instead of listening to some of the syndicated stations discussing nonsense.
Tommie Berry Jr. - exactly

Wow...No Id incredible interview, This was sooooo refreshingly enjoyable. It was everything that an interview should be. It had my attention, it was musically intelligent and informative.
