Hi ya mate, this is Ian from down under, farmer, i just love the way you describe what you are doing, you sound and explain things like a Aussie, have your kids with you now and again in the shop, keep it going, Ian.
I used to work for an old boy by the name of Ed Beem. He owned Beem Equipment in Hornick, Iowa. He was the guy that invented the pivot plates to adapt the 1070 & 1370 Case as well as many others. I built a ton of those pivot plates and front ends to adapt the 10 & 20 series john Deeres for loader use. He made a yearly trip to Canada to deliver these plates and buy alot of front ends from those salvage yards up there. Its cool to see that set up! I loved the look of the 4640 front end on the 4020.
Idea, since you are that deep into getting that pump out, I would advise replacing every O ring in that pump. There is probably plenty enough hour's on the tractor.
I can see Nick that by the time Mia hits first grade, you will have her well trained to demonstrate a DIY split of a 5020 to swap out a pilot or a throw away bearing when asked about what she did during the winter. Good thing Amanda is able to come round often, to handle some of those fine assembly details. But do you have some of that fancy paint you use sometimes to do a touch up on her fingernails? Maybe something along the lines of the JD Yellow for rims? Gotta be good looking when out tending the cows and calves you know... -Bob...
Every 4020 I've seen that had a loader has a banged up nose and hood. Was at a farm sale that had an early 4020 with beefy front axle. Now I know why they done did that. Sold for $9000.AL B.
I'm sure the quad ring for the pump shaft is shot so you got way to much oil going out the plastic bleed off line the new seal might work for awhile but you should have put a whole seal kit and most likely a shaft in the pump.
Is that seal in backwards im into my 4020 pump right now and the orange part was facing the pump and the metal side was against the snap ring. I have my pump tore right down needs bearings and needle bearings and the shaft seal wore grooves on shaft and needle bearings are also chewing up the shaft. Well i guess its cheaper to replace the shaft $270.00 and bearings and thrust washers since all the plungers look good compared to a new pump. it did work fine it was just leaking from o ring on pressure line fitting and shaft seal but after seeing the damage no idea what the bearings are worth yet but at least i priced out the shaft when i got the seal kit. If the outer seal leaking good chance inner seal leaking like mine grooves wore in shaft there too. There's lots of debris in the pump so probably a good thing getting into it get it flushed out i already flushed the diff trans steering valve steering motor this was the last part that needed flushed and maybe i might get this thing back together its only been in the corner of my shop for 2 years now lol🙈🙉🙊🥺
The old 4020 is gonna need a nice coat of paint lol. Also have never had an issue with nelsons in redvers or our neighbour’s but have heard of some bad business
@@ivanmoreau1798actually thats where we get 90% of our parts haha. Havent had an issue unless we fucked it up. Gave them the wrong serial number once. Used to go to pattisons in Moosomin but they screwed is over so bad i am never gonna go back.
The original axles would break the spindles, knees and center castings when doing heavy loader work. They did make a heavier front axle but there are few used ones around. Plus they cost an arm/leg while not being that much stronger. So there are several companies that make adaptor plates to mount stronger axles under the JD 4020. The Case axle is strong and much cheaper than any of the JD axles. I have adaptor on my 1969 JD 4020, that puts a JD 4430 axle under the same way. The adaptor plate is $900 and a good used JD 4430 front axle runs around $2000. The kits using the case axles are about $1000 cheaper.
Yeah I don't consider anything a success unless I've had to take it apart at least twice when I'm trying to put it back together lol either that or mangled a random body party doing it once lol
God dammit was I right on the quiz earlier today the first tractor you had was a case? I'm pretty sure I remember you talking about one of those and you did not have it long
Thanks for the video, Nick. I have to hang my head in shame with yesterday's quizzing about your first tractor, and I put 1086, and it was wrong. Do you want my subscription back? lol 😆. I have been watching your videos since the start and can't believe I got that wrong 😅. Keep the great videos coming if all you have is work shop videos it's all still great stuff, thanks. 👍 😊 🇦🇺

Great update - excellent progress on the 4020!
All of your videos are absolutely spectacular!! You guys do impressive work.

Love to see you and your dad fixing and repairing. Only way to make a dollar is to do all this yourself
Never realised just how much room the oil pump radiator fuel tank took up before damn near as much as the engine 🙄😳 another great workshop video 👌
God bless you all. Your kids are growing up fast
I can understand Amanda helping you take it apart, because she will remember how to put it back together! 😁
That is a great point.
Those bolts around the circumference of the pump have O rings too, had 3020 that leaked there
We enjoy your videos and the content even if you thinks it boring it's new to us. Keep up the great work 💪.

The four letter words add so much to the show
worse than a sailor! even in front of little kids.....
while you have all that to bits do those nylon roller bushes on the pump coupler, AND CHECK the coupler halves also , much easier NOW !!

There is an update for that plastic line they went to a bigger size.
Good video👍🏻
You gonna toss so w fresh green paint on it? Awesone job.
Running out of time for that I'm afraid
@@SouthSaskFarmer1 get the kids to do the front axle so you don’t throw up in your mouth everytime you see that paint.

Worst dealership in the country. They fuck you too just a matter of.time
You must not order parts there often....seems they need a few rounds to get it right, usually.

It will be just the matter of time when John Deer will offer u a job to be their top mechanic ! Lol
They need to hire a farmer to be the head engineer. So that they can make them farmer friendly.
Uncle has a 707 loader on his 4020. Needs seal kits for the tilt cylinders. Any ideas on where to find them, not having any luck here in ND
Just take them to hyd shop it's all standard parts
How are the cows doing?
They are all doing good!
Right now i play on rear axels of puma 165 the gears drive and clutch pack of4*4 miss thoots… deep like your pomp
Same thing happened on my 3020
so are those the 90 grade O rings as i had the red O ring box and found out theyre only 60 or 70 and i was blowing those out too often.
Dunno
Wade still working at enns and good old Gerald at virden rad
Shit I see Alberta is upping crop insurance 60% what the hell is going on
Good thing I d9nt use it
I have to ask so why is there a Case front end in your 4020. Isn't it a bit of sacreledge to put Case parts on a Deere???
Thats what the kit was back in the day l

Why didn't you rebuild the pump?
No need. It still has 2300psi
