I've had my (pre-owned) Brilliant for 6 months. I was able to do the basics, but found the instruction manual baffling for the complex features! I'm devouring EVERYTHING in this video! I'm geeking out, taking notes, and practicing as I watch. Katherine, I love the way you go through all the features, in an order that makes sense and builds on earlier sections of the video!
I rarely like to write comments, but after watching this video, I felt compelled. Your instruction was thorough, clear and very informative. I wish more instruction videos were like this. Very well done. Thank you.
I've had my machine for over 2 years, and I didn't know half these features, thank you so much I've learned a lot from you thank you, I will be watching this video over and over this is the best video I've seen on my machine
Thank you Katherine. I rarely can make it through product review videos, but when you review them, I watch the entire video!!! Thank you so much for being AWESOME!
Superb detailed instructions. All camera angles on point. One of the best instruction videos on the BabyLock Brilliant! Will refer to this each and every time I have questions on my machine. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Wow. Thank you Katherine for this video!!! I felt overwhelmed with the Brilliant Baby Lock machine technology. I’ve used my Mother’s Singer sewing machine for years, and I am accustomed to a simple format & approach to sewing. You answered my questions in the first 23 minutes of this video. I plan to watch the entire video once I’ve learned the basics. Blessings to you & yours.
I bought this machine 3 years ago. Used one time. Moved to another state, never had interest in sewing. I moved back to my hometown after 3 years and now want to start sewing again. This video is just what I need and be re-watching as many times it takes for me to learn my machine. Thank you so much.
I've had my machine almost 2 yrs and have been so frustrated trying to learn from the book. Thank you!! There is so much this machine will do you've given me the confidence I've needed to explore once again. My last machine had maybe a dozen stitches. Could you do more tutorials using the different feet. Thanks again.
Thank you for your tutorial video on the Baby Lock Brilliant you explained everything and new things I missed on other videos on youtube! Many thanks love my Brilliant sewing machine❤
This has to be the most comprehensive video i have seen for a sewing machine. I'm looking to upgrade my machine being new to quilting and i think i just found it. Thank you.
I just bought this machine on Saturday and your video has been so helpful, so thank you for that. I’m a little intimidated because I’m replacing a 19 year old machine. Wish me luck!
This is incredible. I have had my Brilliant for 3 years and I LOVE it!!! I am so excited that I found your channel. I feel like this can help me get the most out of my machine!😄
I love watching your videos! You are so full of knowledge and I learn something new every time I watch you! I don’t own a Babylock….yet! I have a Brother bq1350 that I love and use daily. Doesn’t have all the bells and whistles I would like, but it works for now! Thank you for making all these informative videos as I see lots of similarities between the Brother and Babylock and these videos usually help me discover something new!
Hi Joyce! Thank you sew much for your kind words! We are really glad these videos are helping you. The Brother BQ1350 is a great machine. If you are looking to upgrade to another machine, come and see us we would love to get you sewing on your perfect machine!
I have the brother bq1350 as well! It’s equivalent to the baby lock soprano model. What other bells and whistles do you wish it had? I wonder if the equivalent models between the brother and baby lock perform the same
Thank you so much for answering many questions on this machine. This was very helpful ! I love this machine. I just wish there was more room under the area where you change your needle. I wanted to ask you a question…. Have you noticed when you are using a larger needle 100 for jean material, that when you take out the needle it’s really really hard to get out. I have to pull the needle out with needle nose pliers. Does this happen to you ? 😊
I have not had that issue. I just manually adjust the hand wheel and can usually get the needle position just a tiny bit higher and that does the trick.
Thank you for this great video! I’m going to (hopefully) trade in my Sophia 2 for the Brilliant! I don’t need the embroidery function as I now have 3 embroidery only machines!🤪
Hi, I may be debating between: Presto 2, Brilliant, Aurora and Bloom. I'm newish to sewing but want a machine to last me with lots of opportunity's to learn. budget is under 2500. if you have even a better suggestion I would love to learn. thanks for any thought
I have my brillant for about 4 years and can't figure out how to use it. It has on the screen put the bobbin plate cover on and don't know how to get it off. Can't start the machine the start stop is red. So frustrating. I am 82 so I would like to learn how to use this machine. I will have to use my other machine. Help.
Bobbin plate cover is that little grey (smoky see-through) piece of plastic. It has a little hoook of a foot on the bottom left. This goes into the bobbin cover hole first. Hold the cover in your right hand. tip the left side down toward the bobbin area. That little hook food will slip right into it's spot. If you let go of the cover, it will kind of dangle and still be raised on the right. Press that right side down and it will snap into place. to remove, you use your fingernail to "release" the right hand side, next to where you pushed it down. This can Be VERY hard for my arthritic knuckles. I use the tip of my slanted tweezers. I insert both points in the little "box," and pull to the right. The bobbin cover will pop up on that right side. Grab the cover with your right hand and pull toward the right to remove. I hope this helps! If you look for videos on how to wind and insert the bobbin, it may show these steps.
I had that problem early on and had to stand up to see that it got into the tension discs. This is what I learned - I try to make sure the needle is in the highest position by pressing the Needle Up/Down button first. Then make sure I pull the thread way over to the left before I pull it down. Once down you can check to see if it is in the tension disks by lowering the presser foot and giving the thread a tug. It should not move hardly at all. Then raise the foot and pull, the thread should come out easily. This is a double check to make sure the thread is seated correctly.
Yes there is. On page 17 of the Quick Reference Guide, it shows #69 as an Underline. This creats a space between 2 characters. When you program the phrase you want, insert this underline and when done, clip it out. BabyLock does a lock stitch at the begining and end of each letter so you can take out those inbetween stitches. Hope this helps!
Just a FYI stitch number 25 is a 1/4 inch stitch you don’t always need to change the presser feet to a quarter inch foot, I programmed that stitch to memory
Although very informative, the video was more than I could absorb in one sitting. Perhaps a two-part version with demonstration would be an option to consider.

Very thorough and mindful of the why’s thus easier to understand and remember. Thank you 🙏🏽
That re-enforcement stitch would be fantastic for darts. thank you for this video learning so much about my machine
What stitch did you use to sew the button on ?
What a great video! Thank you so much for the clear and thorough instructions.

I know you thread with the foot up, but do you need to lower it before threading?

Please I need help. when I go up the 4 to put the thread in the needle, it always comes out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Is there a way to add a space in the character stitches if I want to sew a 4 word phrase.
Yes there is. On page 17 of the Quick Reference Guide, it shows #69 as an Underline. This creats a space between 2 characters. It would be helpful if Kathryn made the effort to show the buttons on the screen when she is indicating which button one needs to operate it.
Although very informative, the video was more than I could absorb in one sitting. Perhaps a two-part version with demonstration would be an option to consider.
FYI, cringe alert. NO one says “punch buggy” anymore. Full stop.
