My school lunches were pretty decent. I grew up in Texas and our cooking is naturally taken more seriously. In my school the mashed taters were scooped with an ice cream scooper to maximize size. The gravy was in a pack separately in case people didn’t like gravy. While we did have the square pizzas they were pretty good. The veg like green beans were decent too. Milk was great. Then in my senior year, my school contracted with several businesses. So we got subway, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell in our cafeteria. All of which were good.
In my American school they had a after school program which sold THE BEST items ever, they even had CHEESE FILLED BREAD. ABSOLUTE GOD TIER (and popsicles)

i have a couple of stories about school lunches. in 4th grade the school sold pineapple so i tried it and it tasted like chemicals. the worst part is the aftertaste was stuck in my mouth till the end of recess. i never got school pineapple again. in 6th grade the school offered doritos and there were 2 flavors. nacho cheese and the ranch one. the ranch one was a day before the expiration date and the nacho cheese ones were like a month past it. in 6th grade the school was selling chocolate pudding (which was actually pretty good usually) and i guess they somehow messed up the recipe caused it was once all bumpy with like clumps in it. i forgot they were selling pudding so i actually thought it was taco meat 😭. this has happened multiple times after that also in 5th grade i guess the 6th graders were protesting to get better pizzas.
Reminds me of the time that my elementary school found literal cardboard and plastic in their abomination we all call “pizza”. Even in middle school it was still somewhat bad eating the fries made me not want to eat it ever again.

Like, lasagnas but instead of the meat and tomato sauce it's spinach. Half of the high school skipped lunch that day), but it made good meals memorables. A day with fries for lunch always was a good day, and everyone was getting impatient for christmas lunches, even if it was "just" some dauphine potatoes in your plate.

When I was going to school, the only food worth eating that did not look like it was going to give you extra limbs was: -Chicken nuggets/popcorn chicken(w/ Side of bbq/ ranch sauce) -A mash potatoes bowl with corn, cheese, gravy, and popcorn chicken -a deconstructed version what was ratatouille(it was delicious!) -non square pizza which gave us the option to have pepper flakes or parmesan cheese. For breakfast it was: Cereal Pancakes(w/syrup) French bread sticks(w/syrup) A delicious warm cinnamon breakfast muffin
this is why im honestly glad my school dont give us school food like that in canada holy shit,thank fucking god we simply get cooking classes and send it to the other side or another so people can buy well made edible food made by other students,aswell as the food in the cafetaria that the employees give us when buying it that actually looks good and edible
