In this second video of our tour of Southern Luzon, Anne and I stop in Pilar Bataan and visit the Shrine of Valor located on top of Mount Samat. This mountain played a significant role in Philippines history where Filipino Soldiers along side American Soldiers clashed with the Japanese in World War II. This Shrine and Cross were erected and completed in 1970 to honor those Fallen Soldiers for their bravery in defending the Philippines.
This Monument is breathtaking and a must see if you visit Luzon Philippines but be forewarned, there will be some hill climbing to fully enjoy this for it is all constructed on top of Mount Samat. There are steep roads walkways and stairs so bring the appropriate footwear light clothing a pair of sunglasses and of course your camera. There are several seating areas of overlooks as you ascend this magnificent Mountain and enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as the history.
Come take a tour with Anne and I as we enjoy a few hours here at the Shrine of Valor. There is also a gift shop, a short recording of the history and you can grab some refreshments before or after you embark on a journey of a lifetime atop Mount Samat.

After the Battle of Bataan was the Bataan death march, where the Japanese transferred American and Filipino prisoners from Bataan to Tarlac, many soliders died and the Japanese were brutal. If a soldier fell on the March the Japanese just shot them.
