I love SIX to death, but I also love roasting how often the UK productions have emergency covers. Imagine having the MALE writer go on in place of the super feminist because your alternates were down. It’s not even anybody’s fault either, they just have really bad luck 😂

I saw Renee Lamb's first show (back when the audience was 90% old people thinking its just an educational show lmao) and she was incredible! She didn't know some of the dances and stuff as she was kinda thrown into it but she smashed it!
Emergency covers getting pulled on are more common than you think. It’s probably quite good fun being called back to resurrect your role for one night only and I’m fairly sure Toby had been waiting for the opportunity to go on as one of them since they started writing it!

Toby Marlow is one of the writers for six. He had to go on because the alternates and some of the cast were sick and the only healthy alternate was covering for Natalie who was on Holiday so Toby and Genesis had to go on.
Normally means something has happened to the original actor last minute, so they have understudies that have to come at the drop of a hat to fill in their place. However these people are trained to take any of the six roles as opposed to being assigned roles
when they don't have enough voice actors that can fit one of the characters because one of the originals became ill on some of the last days before the show, they have emergency covers
Yeah, the band shirt/hot pants combo usually appears when the emergency cover in question either doesn't have a costume finished or doesn't have a costume period. Like, for Hana and some of the other established alternates' emergency debuts, their costumes weren't finished because they weren't supposed to start yet, and for Renee/Genesis/Toby they wore it because they never had a costume in the first place but they needed to look somewhat glitzy to fit in. (In Renee's case they even repurposed the old skirt and shoulder pads from the original Cleves costume for this same purpose.)
Renee in particular was very short notice, so much so that the costumers had no time to make a costume for her. As a provisional costume they stuck her in a black shirt and repurposed remaining parts of the original Cleves costume so she'd look somewhat like everyone else lol (and a band shirt/hot pants combo has been the staple placeholder costume for emergency covers/swings when their costume is unfinished. In this video it can be seen on Renee, Toby, Hana, Genesis and I think Alicia? Hard to see.) Mad props to Renee and Genesis for their returning shows, though. They both had short notice when they came on and a very short amount of time to learn/relearn harmonies and choreography (I know Genesis had a whole day for her first return but idk if Renee had longer or not). You can def see the rough spots in Genesis' first returning megasix (there are spots where she just has no idea where she's going, since the original megasix was longer than today's) but there's a certain charm to it. TL;DR all these girls are amazingly talented lol
