    I have the Gaerne’s GX1 and they are awesome boots, little stiff when you first buy them and ride with them but id rather them be stiffer because to me that means they are good leather. Have been riding with them for a year now, never a problem, very comfy, feel protected, and would buy again. Gaerne’s are my goto brand the only other brand i would go to would be SIDI if i had to.

    I would be cautious if I was buying the Fox boots. They have a really large toe box that makes it harder to shift. I personally ride with Alpinestars tech 7's.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the advice. With every MX Boot you're going to need to adjust to it. You can even adjust the shift lever on your bike if needed. Alpinestars Tech 7's are fantastic boots. Low profile toe box for sure! Cheers

    • @jakewaggoner4196
      @jakewaggoner4196 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that’s actually what I had him do. I just thought the tow box was a little large for my liking. Because when you move the lever up to be able to shift up you then have to compensate and lift your foot higher to shift down. They seem to be great boots and I do think it’s all rider preference. Which is why I didn’t bash them. Lol. A lot of top riders race for Fox and their stuff is nice!

      Good point. It's all about rider feel and comfort. I've worn some boots that other riders like and thought, "how can they even ride in these? They're terrible!" I've always been a big fan of their instincts, too. Happy riding!~Chase

  • @dominickjohnston5881

    The comp 5’s are good boots but they are so stiff, I’ve had mine for awhile now, and they feel like my leg is in a cast... yes that may sound like it’s good, but it gets uncomfortable if trying to walk around, it took me about a week to fully break mine in, Ive taken a few crashes and they have held up amazing, I’ve had a rock come up and hit me while I was doing 50mph and didn’t even feel it. My biggest grip is that mesh material near the bottom left side of the boot is flimsy, mine ripped from my foot slipping and Kickstarter ripping the mesh fabric so they are no longer waterproof sadly. But over all they are good boots but I would definitely go and try others out first and save the Fox for last.. don’t make the same mistake I did and instantly go with the comp 5’s...
    Hoped this helped.

    for me if u have high arches or want more room in the front foot it’s Gaerne all the way. So much room for hot feet expansion whilst riding so ur never getting sore no matter how long on the bike. Alp tech 5 all the way if i didn’t have bigger feet, alp’s ankle support n quality is awesome

    I have been using fox comp 5 for the past couple of years and they are a good starter boot for the price. They are a bit bulky and cheap material but if you just want a basic boot for a weekend ride I suggest those. If you plan on being serious with your riding I suggest you go for something else.

    Ive had the Fox instinct for about a year and a half, maybe 200 riding hours. Ever since I got them wet by riding muddy trails in the rain, they’ve stunk like cat piss ever since. How do I get that smell out? I tried odor eaters, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, dryer sheets, vinegar and febreeze.

  • @jonasduell9953

    Axo Drone, took me a few days to get the tough synthetics walked in but buckles are solid and replaceable, tough sole, very durable and tough shell and theyre less than 150$ even if you buy em at your local retailer... Toe box is comfortable, maybe a bit oversized, shifting does feel different than riding with sneakers but they're overall very solid boots even past entry level. Also Axo boots (like fox mentioned in the video tend to be a bit undersized, going 1 size over your regular size is a must)

    between the fox180, and tech 5/7, which would accommodate a wide foot? or will they both have similar width? (size 13)
    Also which would come more durable for trail riding if so at all between them? or would you say these boots are more designed towards mx, and to consider a different boot for trail and mx?
    And with the 180, does that silicone strap get stretched out easy? from all the pulling I'm curious if it looses its elasticity?

      They both accommodate a wider foot just fine. Honestly, the tech 7 is hard to beat when it comes to comfort. I am new to riding and don't have a wide range of comparison but have been very happy with the protection and comfort of my O'Neal Rider Boots for use in dual sport riding. Finding a boot that would even fit on my size 14 EEE feet was a huge score. The Riders are not any good for walking but I'd guess that's the trade off for the protection they give. It would be hard to expect any more of a $110. boot. It looks like the Element boots in the video have a different buckle and strap than the Rider. If the Element straps are easier to adjust it could be worth the extra $15.

    Hate my Gaerne G Reacts: super narrow top so knee braces are a no go and am on last tooth of size 13 buckles on my size 11s (I wear size 10.5 shoe so they run small), the buckles pop open often, the gusset to keep water out tore on both boots in first 4 rides, and my right boot hinges in weird spot despite hinged design and both don’t stop my foot from sliding forward anytime I plant a foot so you jame your big toe and lose the nail twice a season; I e started calling it Italian Mo-Toe. I’m going back to my fox comp 5s or to Astars.

    I am a beginner dirt bike rider, and purchased a pair of oneal rider boots. The problem I am having is they are so stiff I can not shift gears unless I am sitting on the gas tank. The toe seems to be way too tall to fit between the foot peg and the shifter. Standing up it is impossible for me to shift. Even after breaking them in they are too stiff. At this point I am considering going with a pair of trials boots so I can shift gears. I would like a pair of boots that is not so tall at the toe, and has a sole that is flexible, and not like a piece of steel. What do you recommend? Brand/price does not matter. These will be for single track.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      David, check out the Thor Radial boots. Great price and protection with good flex right out of the box.The A.R.C. Corona wouldn't be a bad choice either. To help with shifting while standing up, try adjusting your shift lever so it sits up a little higher (loosen the pinch bolt and rotate shift lever on splines) . Shifting while standing is a little more difficult no matter what boot you have on. Hope this helps!
