Another reason why riding the pitch is best is because you never really have to think about where the perfect 'zero' point is. Some of the best multi genre DJs in the UK are always moving the pitch minutely back and forth throughout the mix. It does make things a bit more tense but their blends seem more effortless as a result. Thanks!
I wanna talk about the sync button... I really wanna understand why people look down upon it so much when it can help you out so many time for minor adjustments and tempo adjustments... why do people look down upon it so much? For me it's the same argument as someone driving a manual car vs automatic i know that you're probably a manual car guy since you're into cars but the argument still stands... I see lots of videos of people talking about beat matching and their examples are so trivial that im like c'mon really this is really what makes the difference in people's minds between a good dj and a shit dj? I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything im just a beginner who really wants to learn and understand but also accept technology and use it to my advantage instead of sticking to old mentalities that hold people back... my 2 cents. would love to have a discussion on this.
fayekhelmi because it teaches laziness, it removes the difficulty and skill from beatmatching, it’s essentially cheating, and most importantly when it comes to learning to mix on vinyls, you’ll have no hope because you cut corners and just learned to use the sync button
Well sync button can be a life saver on some points and of course the older dj's are gonna shit on it cuz its new technology. You should be able to beatmatch manualy though just because if one day during a gig or whatever your sync button just stops working you're kinda fucked. I also think beatmatching manualy by ear is much more fun. But in the end dj'ing is all about having fun and playing the music you love to people
Never forget that tech like sync and quantize rely heavily on analysing the tracks. Your beatgrid is the key. Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor all analyse tracks differently, BPMs might not fit, grids might be a little misaligned between tracks. You always need to be able to shift the platter to make phase adjustments. Sync is not perfect. So you NEED to lnow how to beatmatch blindly only with your ear with not analysed tracks. Not to be on safe side, but to be able to DJ at all. Always aspire to become a DJ who can rock a party with somebody elses Vinly collection on the fly. that means : You can beatmatch with your ears perfectly under 30 sec, You can preview and chooose a track considering harmonies and energy levels under 1-2 minute and you can make long transintions with perfect EQ usage w/o redlining and colliding elements. Aspire this°

I will do a video about this topic soon!
The true dj emerges when searching for music. Mixing is the easiest part of the job.
