My son and my daughter, 4 and 2, are fucking *SOLD* on every incarnation of Postman Pat. Got the toys, can recite scenes by heart, asks specifically to watch the movie (Daughter finds the Jessbot hilarious), the lot. We're not even british!

How to fix Postman Pat: The Movie
1) Have a plot focus on Pat's delivery job
2) Have it animated in stop-motion
3) Make the characters less stupid
4) Make the villian less generic
5) Remove the robot sub-plot
6) Better voice acting

When you said the cat was named Jess, I got flashbacks to seeing an ad for a CG kids' show with the same cat named _Guess with Jess._ I never knew that show was a spinoff all along.
Wait guess with Jess was a spinoff!????? I used to watch that show all the time just because I liked the talking horse character.
You know what’s so sad about this? With the show being such a small scale, slice of life kind of story, a really great movie could’ve been made out of this. Something like Kiki’s Delivery Service. Same thing could’ve happened with Thomas And The Magic Railroad
But noooo, the producers needed a big adventure with big setpieces or kids would find it boring!

It is official there’s a British kids shows cinematic universe
I grew up with postman pat and loved it but I only recently read somewhere that the creator, John Cunliffe, portrayed the village of Greendale to be idyllic where everyone was nice to each other in contrast to the bullying he suffered at a young age. I found that to be quite sad.

I used to play a game imaginatively titled "The Show" with my grandad that involved a lot of toys, mainly from McDonalds, and one of him was Postman Pat. He flew a helicopter long before it was an official thing and he was Policeman Plod's younger, smarter brother solely based on the fact that they both wore blue. Honestly one of the best parts of my childhood. I'm sure Pixar would be proud of me for using my toys in such a manner.
(Hey, I loved the show and a fair few stop-motion and puppet shows that was common in Britain at the time. The film seems... weird though. The CGI also does not have the same charm as stop-motion.)

I noticed at 7:48 David Tennant’s character’s chin hair blips out of existence for a frame. Nothing but the best quality control for the Postman Pat movie
I actually noticed it too ever since I first saw the movie back in the fall of 2014.
I kinda love that everyone is referring this character as 'DAVID TENNANT'S CHARACTER' rather than what his name actually is.
Kinda...kinda says a lot to how memorable he is outside of David.

I remember when this movie came out back in 2014. I barely remember it but the only thing I remembered in it was that Pat and Jess were there, and there was a robot Pat who sang at the end, and all the people hated Pat cause they thought the robot was him (of course). I barely even remembered it that I started to think it was just a random fever dream I had when I was younger. And then I watched this video, and then the memories all came flooding back.

This show was available too here in Canada, I remember watching some of these as a kid
Postman Pat and Bob the Builder crossover idea. Bob is repairing a bridge in Greendale, and Pat has to deliver some tools to him. They hang out and chat for a while while Bob does his work, then at the end of the work day Pat comes by again with a thermos of tea. That's it.
I really like the British pop culture references, such as after David Tennants character sneezes on the interview host, you can see Testcard- F but with Lizzy. And the Dalek during the scene where there are all the test delivery robots.
