This is one of the first time I actually HEARD the lyrics.. with Jessie I get hypnotized by her tone but she doesn't articulate that well. Desi does and gives a few diva riffs lol
At first glance, this seems like such a simple and sweet song to sing but holy crap it takes a special kind of voice to do this. The "down" is so challenging and so difficult and I think she did it amazingly. I saw her on tour and she was so good
I can't get past how much of Sara Bareilles' individual writing style is in the whole soundtrack. One of the reasons I fell in love with this musical so much.
@@ak-zo5js Happened to see Sara in her Broadway debut in this role, maybe 3/30/17, was our first night in NYC and most of our very first Broadway show. Went with a HS theater class as one of the chaperones. To say we were all thoroughly blown away by the entire cast - several of which were under studies - would be understatement of the century. To see HS kids and us 5 parents & a teacher all equally geeked was a moment we won't soon forget. Sara was fantastic, as you recall, I'm sure. Totally amazing, the Entire cast, brilliant!
I saw her on the national tour recently and she was so good! Her voice is stunning and she sang "she used to be mine" astonishingly. A lot of the clips on line of her don't do her justice, her facial expressions on stage are absolutely amazing. I think she's an excellent jenna
After watching this video, I had a few doubts about the casting choice, but I saw her a few weeks ago as Jenna and she was AMAZING (the whole cast was). Her rendition of "She Used to Be Mine" especially blew me away, just so much passion and emotion. Honestly.... she's become my favorite Jenna.
This is the best version I've heard and seen. She puts in the exact emotion I'm always expecting but never experiencing. I wish I had seen her in the musical itself.
The expressions in this woman’s face are incredible. She is so in character, just completely taken over by this. You can tell she loves doing this! I never saw her(I actually never seen Waitress) but I’ve heard this song and Opening Up- I love Sara Barellies and her music, it is just amazing
She has such a different take on it, and I really enjoy it! There's almost an angry touch to her line "how goddamn happy I am," and it's done in such a cool way!
I love love love Desi. She’s so adorable and not only that, the quality of her voice is so delightful. Almost like a country singer at times. She 100% deserved this role
I love the way Desi's face is always showing us the inner life of her character. She is a wonderful performer and I hope we will see her in London again after she came to save the Waitress production back in January.
i saw her in columbus and she KILLED it completely! especially since i heard that the day before, she had gotten sick and they had to call in her understudy (this what i heard). she didn’t talk besides a “hello” at stagedoor (she looked exhausted) but if she would of stayed i probably could have talked to her for hours.
I can not get over her facial expressions through out this performance! She is able to to really capture the mood and feeling of Jenna with just her facial and eye movements. That just really coveys so much emotion I could feel it. Best performance of this song - hands down.
i just saw her this weekend in new orleans, and she was PHENOMENAL!!! the whole show was absolute perfection and she was just amazing. the whole cast was wonderful
Silbury Peakman How did she save it? What happened to it? I guess she’s filling in between Lucy Jones (who was incredible) who’s just taking a break and Sara B (who no doubt will be amazing) whose doing a 6 week stint. Love this girls voice as well though.
Adrian Norton lucie has been really ill for 4 weeks now I think so couldn’t go on and so we’re all the understudies. They had to cancel a couple shows. Then they flew desi over only planned for one week but lucie was still to ill to come back so she stayed up untill Sara arrived. X
Just saw this in Fort Worth and Desi was absolutely fantastic. I wasn’t sure I would like her because I just love Jessie and she’ll always be my favorite, but Desi blew me away. She was different and made the character her own, which is what any professional should do. I laughed and cried, and was very moved by her performance.
What Baking Can Do Make it work Make it easy Make it clever, craft it into pieces Make it sweet Crimp the edges or make it sour and serve with lemon wedges Even doubt can be delicious And it washes off of all the dirty dishes When it's done I can smile It's on someone else's plate for a while I'll place it on display and then I'll slice and serve my worries away I can fix this I can twist it into sugar, butter covered pieces Never mind what's underneath it I have done it before I'll bake me a door to help me get through I learned that from you Mama, it's amazing what baking can do Make it up and surprise them Tell them all my secrets but disguise them So they dance on the tongue Of the very people that they're secrets from Make it soon, make it better Though better never lasts forever I'll make it small so it fits . . . . Even this . . . Even now . . . Even as the walls come tumbling down Even as I can't stop remembering how Every door we ever made, we never once walked out Something I never got the chance to ask her about So with flour on my hands I'll show them all how Goddamn happy I am Sugar, butter, flour Don't let me down! Let's see the next amazing thing baking does now
I saw the show opening night in Cleveland as well, as this past Saturday. Desi was absolutely amazing in the show. The only thing I would critique (only because its not to my taste) is her performance of She Used To Be Mine. She acts it more than the others, and as such while it is deeply affecting, I have gotten used to a more pure "sung" version. For reference, I did see it on Broadway during Sara's run, and loved every minute of that performance as well.
Okay Desi actually says that lyrics clearly. I’ve heard Jessie Mueller on the cast album and I’ve seen Betsy Wolfe on Broadway. Neither were able to say the lyrics as crisply as Desi.
I love how the accent is noticeable but not too overdone!
Her voice is beautiful!
Mirage_Theatre_Kid what accent lmao it ain’t there at all
Ethereal Doodles Well this isn’t what she normally sounds like, it’s a bit of a Southern accent I think
Mirage_Theatre_Kid thank you!!!
This is so different than any of the other Jenna's and I'm honestly here for it
Talulah M. There’s actually now a black Jenna she’s awesome
Talulah M. It’s so unique. I love it, but it gives me a different feeling
It amazes me how Jessie, Sara, Betsy, and Dessi all interpreted Jenna is many different ways.
This is one of the first time I actually HEARD the lyrics.. with Jessie I get hypnotized by her tone but she doesn't articulate that well. Desi does and gives a few diva riffs lol
Thisismyusername227 I totally agree!
Thisismyusername227 get to see her in London as Jenna on Saturday
At first glance, this seems like such a simple and sweet song to sing but holy crap it takes a special kind of voice to do this. The "down" is so challenging and so difficult and I think she did it amazingly. I saw her on tour and she was so good
Meggy Peggy it is hella hard to do on stage ahah
It's not that hard for me but my mixed voice is more developed now :)
I can't get past how much of Sara Bareilles' individual writing style is in the whole soundtrack.
One of the reasons I fell in love with this musical so much.
me too
2:54 I love all the key changes during the "am" in the line "I'll show them all how God damn happy I am"
Alex S. Sara Barielles did them when she was on Broadway!! I love it!!
me too

i thought katharine has started them

Anna Hamilton my thoughts exactly after seeing her almost a week ago
she’s I N C R E D I B L E in the show
Emily Boardman I saw her yesterday and I totally agree (12/23/17)
After watching this video, I had a few doubts about the casting choice, but I saw her a few weeks ago as Jenna and she was AMAZING (the whole cast was). Her rendition of "She Used to Be Mine" especially blew me away, just so much passion and emotion. Honestly.... she's become my favorite Jenna.
I was apprehensive at first but holy hell! She is fireeee!
Her runs are amazing
This is the best version I've heard and seen. She puts in the exact emotion I'm always expecting but never experiencing. I wish I had seen her in the musical itself.

Lucy Jolie

Sameee
The beginning seemed off to me but the middle and the end were amazing!!
Y’all we haven’t seen an even slightly miscasted Jenna yet! Each one of them has brought something amazing and unique to the role! Love them all!
She has such a different take on it, and I really enjoy it! There's almost an angry touch to her line "how goddamn happy I am," and it's done in such a cool way!
This whole song just brings me life
I hadn’t heard much of the music before the show and when she sang this, I was blown away! Love this song and love her rendition!
she seems a little tired here but she absolutely OWNS this song on stage. my favorite interpretation next to sara.
Saw her on tour a couple days ago, AMAZINGGGGG!!! her voice is so powerful and smooth on stage, loved her performance.
her runs and vocal affectations are so impressive and clean
I love love love Desi. She’s so adorable and not only that, the quality of her voice is so delightful. Almost like a country singer at times. She 100% deserved this role
Saw her on the West End yesterday and she was absolutely phenomenal 😍
I love the way Desi's face is always showing us the inner life of her character. She is a wonderful performer and I hope we will see her in London again after she came to save the Waitress production back in January.
Cried watching this just as I cried when I saw her perform a month ago.
ok i love desi so much dont even get me started
I love Desi so much! I went to New York do a work shop and she was so sweet and pretty and her talent just adds on top of her being an AMAZING person.
I love how different all the Jenna’s are.. I just saw desi in FLL and I am so obsessed!
I saw her as Evita and she was so magnificent I had to see her in it again (and I did). Can’t wait to see her in waitress
I adore her! She's so talented and a breath of fresh air. I really love her emotion.
She really sits in each and every moment, not rushing anything. It is honestly TRULY really magical
i saw her in columbus and she KILLED it completely! especially since i heard that the day before, she had gotten sick and they had to call in her understudy (this what i heard). she didn’t talk besides a “hello” at stagedoor (she looked exhausted) but if she would of stayed i probably could have talked to her for hours.
I saw her live yesterday and she is incredible, almost unbelievable how strong and clear her voice is.
1:30 the "dooooo"😍😍
Her voice and expressions are absolutely gorgeous (and her too!), I was mesmerized!
Goosebumps! Saw her this past weekend, she was absolutely awesome!
I listen to this song before every exam paper. It helps to calm me down:) Sara Bareilles did an excellent job! Also, Desi Oakley's voice is beautiful.
Saw her perform and she was AMAZING! Best Jenna hands down!😍
She’s my FAV jenna!!! I met her too and she’s the queen of kindness for sure.
Desi is a treasure that if anyone has the opportunity to see her on the tour must go!
Having just seen the current run, I'm amazed how far Desi has come with the role and the material. She's now my favourite Jenna.
I can not get over her facial expressions through out this performance! She is able to to really capture the mood and feeling of Jenna with just her facial and eye movements. That just really coveys so much emotion I could feel it. Best performance of this song - hands down.
Just saw this and got to meet her! What an amazing person

This is my favorite song from the whole musical, it's underrated
Saw it three times in Cleveland. Loved it that much and Desi and the cast were all great, every performance! Keep it up!
Had the chance to see her in London and her singing was impeccable from beginning to end.
THATS BEAUTIFUL
love her. I enjoy that I get a different take of the songs with each performer who does it. I love her interpretation!
I saw Desi in the touring company and she was just so excellent! She has a beautiful voice.
Omggggggggggggggggg. This is perfection

At some parts it was iffy but altogether I'm SO SHOOK IN HOW GOOD SHE IS
Just saw her in the tour Thursday. Incredible.
Just saw her as Jenna in London when she saved the west end production. Absolutely phenomenal, the best Jenna by far!!!
Silbury Peakman How did she save it? What happened to it? I guess she’s filling in between Lucy Jones (who was incredible) who’s just taking a break and Sara B (who no doubt will be amazing) whose doing a 6 week stint. Love this girls voice as well though.

Saw her in Waitress in Tampa a few days ago and she was freaking amazing. The whole cast killed it.
I can’t wait to see her in San Francisco! 😍
I love how this song starts all happy and then gets mesmerising at the end
Just saw this in Fort Worth and Desi was absolutely fantastic. I wasn’t sure I would like her because I just love Jessie and she’ll always be my favorite, but Desi blew me away. She was different and made the character her own, which is what any professional should do. I laughed and cried, and was very moved by her performance.
She was AMAZING at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine this past weekend. Playing through 6/8/24 :)
Desi, Kat, Shoshana=all of my Jennas and I love them all so much.
That was so different but absolutely loved it!
You were a fantastic Jenna!
seeing the broadway show tom and hopefully I'll see her when the tour comes to Philly!!!
Can't wait to see her in the role as Jessie at the Ogunquit Playhouse soon!
She’s incredible in this role.
What Baking Can Do
Make it work
Make it easy
Make it clever, craft it into pieces
Make it sweet
Crimp the edges or make it sour
and serve with lemon wedges
Even doubt can be delicious
And it washes off of all the dirty dishes
When it's done I can smile
It's on someone else's plate for a while
I'll place it on display and then I'll slice
and serve my worries away
I can fix this
I can twist it into sugar, butter covered pieces
Never mind what's underneath it
I have done it before
I'll bake me a door to help me get through
I learned that from you
Mama, it's amazing what baking can do
Make it up and surprise them
Tell them all my secrets but disguise them
So they dance on the tongue
Of the very people that they're secrets from
Make it soon, make it better
Though better never lasts forever
I'll make it small so it fits . . . .
Even this . . .
Even now . . .
Even as the walls come tumbling down
Even as I can't stop remembering how
Every door we ever made,
we never once walked out
Something I never got the chance
to ask her about
So with flour on my hands
I'll show them all how
Goddamn happy I am
Sugar, butter, flour
Don't let me down!
Let's see the next amazing thing
baking does now
This might be my favorite version to date. Wow...
I saw the show opening night in Cleveland as well, as this past Saturday. Desi was absolutely amazing in the show. I love how she sings it a little different that any of the other Jenna’s I’ve heard. I loved this version and I think she’s a great Jenna.
I went to Pittsburgh to see *Waitress* at the Benedum. Desi starred in it as Jenna. She was an amazing actress.
Anne Hathaway's twin! Gorgeous voice, especially.
Okay Desi actually says that lyrics clearly. I’ve heard Jessie Mueller on the cast album and I’ve seen Betsy Wolfe on Broadway. Neither were able to say the lyrics as crisply as Desi.
Omg I saw her on the west end and she is amazing
I love how forward and focused her sound is. The ornaments and passion are what make this the best. Other jenna's try and sing this too pretty.
she owns this song for sure
She slays
Dear Lord I love her
It's so cool to see the different portrayals of Jenna. Betsey is my favorite but she's really good too.
anatole_is_hot Totally agree. It’s so amazing how all four of them manage to portray Jenna in such different but still awesome ways.
wowza i love her
I saw her as Jenna and she was brilliant
