  • Hey FIT-GAMERS,
    In this Fight Scene Breakdown, we go through this training montage step by step to show you what Oliver Queen and Slade Wilson are training during this sequence. They use drills from Filipino Martial Arts with double sticks and some empty hands techniques as well.

    The reason why I watch Arrow. My favorite part is the gun disarm and takedown technique. I like the fact that Kali is getting the recognition that it deserves. Great video!

    Arrow's fighting techniques to date:
    Filipino Kali
    Krav Maga
    Kickboxing (Or a combat variant of Tae Kwon Do)
    Boxing
    WIng Chun
    Brazilian Jiu Jutsu
    At least those are the techniques I have recognized. Kali however appears to be the functional base of his style.

      @@JoeyBslash3 As a writer I hate combat because it's difficult to translate what is seen so easily on a screen into words for a story. Especially when it's a drill like the heaven 6.
      But once I focused on "he's trained, she isn't" and had him guide her through the stance and the blows much like you did here, and focused on "she's going to get hit... a lot" it was so much easier to write. c:

    Great video as always, and great choice for a first video on Arrow. One of my favourite TV fight scenes of all time is on this show. BTW I was low-key expecting the "what we did like vs what we didn't like" bit, what gives? I like this part ^_^

      +Neldolas what is the fight scene you speak of? And I will try and make sure to put our opinion in the videos as usual. This one was getting to be a longer duration, so I didn't want to stretch it out too far.

      My favourite? Season 4 episode 7 called Brotherhood, the fight between Speedy and certain character I won't name because of spoilers. In a season filled with lackluster fights, this one always tickles my fancy. Especially the part where she parties a knife attack, pins her opponent's arm against his own chest to prevent him to attack and push kick him.
      There's also the famous Ra's Al Ghul vs Oliver in 3x09 episode called The Climb, mainly because of the use of filipino blades.
      And last but not certainly least, episode 5x21 called Honor Thy Fathers, fight between Prometheus and Oliver. It has a lot of good stuff I think you'll like

    Hey Joey.
    I'm a fan from Norway and watch alot of action movies with awesome fight scenes.
    Just have to say it's very educational to see you go through it step by step, especially the fight in taken where he takes down the guy with the knife, because it's dark you can't really see what's going on.

    Another thing with the gun disarm is that you can prevent the gun from firing by holding pulling the slide back slightly. While the hammer may strike the firing pin, the firing pin would be just far enough away from the chambered round to where it won’t strike or cause a light strike on the primer.

      Place your Live Hand on the forearm of your weapon bearing limb, with the thumb facing forward.
      Then slide the Live Hand forward until it snags either the top of the hilt (palm down), or snags the pommel (palm up).
      Transition when your Live Hand makes contact with the weapon.
      At least that is how we train it.
      There are some different one-handed switches too. But that is risky business to try under pressure.
      Good dexterity training though.

    6:33 if he fires, your hand is gone

    • @JoeyBslash3
      @JoeyBslash3  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really...it might get a slight cut. I have personally watched someone fire a pistol while grabbing the slide to test what would happen. In terms of injury, there was only a slight cut, and it didn't happen every time.. Basically, once fired, the slide is unable to chamber another round, since it is stopped by the hand grabbing it. There is some force to it, but not enough to destroy the hand.

    • @CalistFitness
      @CalistFitness 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoeyBslash3 Yeah I didnt mean totally destroy the hand, but if you grab the gun like that and he fires, it will hurt a lot, than it depends on your pain factor if it distracts you long enough for your oponnent to win or if you finish you attack. But if you take it how slade does it, he does it really fast, so even if he fires, it wont hurt him much. Just saying that its not the best way how to disarm a guy with a gun

    • @JoeyBslash3
      @JoeyBslash3  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      indeed, agreed.

      @CalistFitness 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoeyBslash3 btw you can take a look also on some of the prison fights of this years season, one of the main reasons i started watching arrow was also that they had there a lot of fight and workout scenes and they though it through, then when magic came to arrow it stopped (and there was just a small amount of the scenes), but in this years season they started doing it again.

    How long are eskrima sticks supposed to be?

    • @JoeyBslash3
      @JoeyBslash3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on a few factors, but mostly weight. The basic and proper measurement for the best balance is from your armpit to your middle finger tip. So whatever measurement that turns out to be is how long you want the rattan stick to be. Rattan is the traditional material for training sticks, as it is fairly durable, yet lightweight and flexible to an extent. I usually go for 7/8 inch in diameter, but some people prefer wider.
